Callie’s POV
My throat hurt and it felt like I was stepped on by an elephant, but other than that I felt okay. I have felt worse in the past. I felt someone’s warmth next to me. I opened my eyes and saw Joseph was fast asleep next to me.
“You finally awake.” Alex said. I turned my head to see him standing beside me with a glass of grape juice in his hand.
I carefully got out of bed and took the glass from him; I noticed that I was still wearing my black dress which was probably a good thing. “Thank you for your help last night.” I said and then drank the juice in one long swallow. It went down well and refreshed me a bit.
“You know I will do anything for you.” Alex said and then pulled me in for a hug. “When I saw you were giving up more energy than you should have I became worried. You could have died.”
Alex was right, if he didn’t help last night either my father or I would have died last night. The room suddenly felt colder and I saw that it was already late in the afternoon. I needed to get a few things done, the pups should be home soon and the pack will be expecting answers.
I opened my mind-link to Jayden; even if he blocked me out I would still be able to nudge on his mind-link until he opens up to me.
What is it Callie?
Jayden’s voice said.
Are you home yet?
No, I am on my way home now, should be there in an hour.
Ok. Sarah and I are taking care of things here and Dad is okay.
Callie?
Jayden sounded shocked and happy at the same time.
I saw him; he looked like he was passing on. Callie, what happened?
He was healed.
How?
I healed him with some help, now enough with the questions and hurry up home.
I said to Jayden and then shut my mind-link again.
“You go take a shower. I will go tell Sarah you’re awake. She spent most of the day by your father’s bedside. “Alex said, he put his hand on my shoulder and squeezed it before he left.
Sarah watched over my father, when the rest of us couldn’t. That thought played through my head over and over in my head. I have been away for five years, Sarah has been the daughter to my parents that I haven’t been, the daughter I could never be.
I opened the tap in the shower and then slipped out of my dress.
There are so many secrets and lies, things my parents can never find out.
Not to mention Chase, I had loved him more than anything and when I returned two years ago I was willing to finish my high school career here. I needed to escape the life that had managed to find me in London. I had hoped Chase would bring me back to who I was before, so that my family would never realize the daughter they had lost. I have changed. When I returned to London things became worse, I became worse and needed help.
I got into the shower and felt the cold water run over me and sting my body. A cold reminder that I was still alive even though I just felt like a shell of the person I used to be.
By the time I got out of the shower and was dressed which is when Joseph woke up. Jayden should be home soon.
“Hey, you were really brave this morning.” I told Joseph and ran my hand over his head.
He started shaking slightly and then wrapped his arms around my neck. I could feel his sadness and defeat and wanted nothing more than to take it all away from him. I might not feel what I should anymore, but that didn’t mean I ever stopped caring.
“What if we can’t find her?” Joseph said between his sobs.
“We will find her, you just have to believe we will. Okay?”
We stayed like that for another minute before I told him to wash his face and meet me in Father’s room. I made my way through the pack members who were asking me what was going on and as much as I wish I had answers for them, I really didn’t. By the time I reached my father’s room door and opened it I saw he was up and fighting with Sarah.
“I NEED TO FIND SKYE!” He screamed at Sarah, as she tried to force him to stay in bed.
“ENOUGH!” I shouted out at both of them, I could hear my voice echo throughout the pack house and silently wished that I didn’t shout as loud as I did. Both my father and Sarah stared at me in astonishment, but I ignored their looks and closed the door behind me as I walked to them.
“Sarah, thank you for watching over him but he is strong enough to get up and walk around now.” I said to Sarah and gave her a quick hug. “Jayden will be home in a few minutes. I need you to gather the pack outside for the pack meeting. I have a feeling that the pack house will not be able to handle all the voices and panicked pack members at the moment.”
Sarah smiled at me, and I saw a tell-tale sign of worry in her eyes that she was able to hide so well. Later I will have to have a private word with her.
“Callie, I need to find her.” My father said. My strong father was breaking down in front of me and there was nothing I could do to comfort him or help him with this.
The mate bond between him and my mother is strong. If anything happens to her he will die, Jayden will crumble and there is a chance that our pack will fall. Whoever took her, knew exactly what they were doing. Even if they were not after my mother for her powers, she is the most powerful wolf in the world that I know of. If word spreads of her demise packs around the world will start to panic and who knows what kind of problems that will cause.
“Dad we will find her. Jayden spent most of the day trying to track her down. I need you to calm down. You cannot go running in blind. We almost lost you today; it almost killed me to save your life. Please don’t do anything stupid. Joseph will be destroyed if he loses you.” I walked away from him and realized what I just said to him but what I said was true.
“What about you?” My father asked, his voice betraying all his emotions.
I turned back to look at him. “I will mourn you and then I kill the bastards that dared to lay their hands on my family.”
“Callie, your eyes they are red.” He sounded shocked and almost scared. “What happened to you?”
I ignored his question and felt myself calm down before I left the room and saw Joseph running down the passage towards me.
“Can I see him?” Joseph asked.
“You can, make sure you get him outside to join the rest of the pack for the pack meeting. Okay?”
Joseph shook his head and accepted my little mission for him. He too will have to be trained, soon. I thought as I made my way to the kitchen. I grabbed an apple and then made my way outside. The pack members were all still making their way to the meeting so I took that as an opportunity to get Alex, Sarah and my father along with Joseph to the front with me. I waited a few more minutes and just as I was getting ready to start Jayden returned with the wolves he had taken with him. He ran straight inside the pack house and less than a minute later returned back outside only wearing shorts.
“Okay, I need all of you to keep quiet and listen carefully.” I said out loud and then waited for complete silence, once I got what I wanted I carried on. “As you all know, last night my mother was kidn*pped and my father was badly injured he was left for dead. We do not know who it was that managed to take her or what they want. I know that you are all worried about your former Luna and you are scared. Whoever took her must have been strong. That much we do know.”
I looked around at the pack members and stilled my gaze on Jayden as he silently encouraged me to carry on.
“We will do all we can to find her and her kidnapper. I swear that to you. At the moment though, we will need extra guards to secure the pack grounds. I want everyone to be more vigil of their surroundings, travel in groups and be careful. As far as I know only my mother has been taken, but there is no saying that these MONSTERS won’t return and take more people from our pack. Alpha Jayden will be organizing everyone in groups and I will be leading the search party for my mother. If anyone has any valuable information I encourage you to step forward.”
There was complete silence before I heard someone scream out. “Why should we listen to you? You haven’t been part of this pack for the past five years.”
There were a few more voices that were agreeing with the man that had spoken out loud. I could hear my brothers and father growling. I looked at Sarah and silently begged her to calm them down, but she just stared at me and nodded her head at me.
“I might not be the Alpha or Luna of this pack, but you will do well to remember to respect me. You have voiced your concerns and that is fine by me. If anyone else has issues with me taking charge of all that is happening I beg you to raise your concerns now and to make things interesting. I dare you to challenge me. And do not be alarmed I will use none of my extra gifts, I will not even fight in wolf form.”
A few people started shouting out their complaints and concerns. I looked at Alex and saw him smirking at me. Jayden looked at me like I was mad and my father and Joseph looked scared for my life.
“Challenging me is not a sign of treason, let me earn their respect.” I said and then made my way to the middle of the pack, they immediately spread out and made a huge circle around me. Three men came out to the front and shifted at once. I teased them a bit and mocked them as one by one they tried to attack me, but were unsuccessful because I was able to dodge them all.
“I think you three should work as a team if you wish to have any hope at all of beating me.” I said and watched as they growled and anger filled their eyes.
I could tell that their wolves wanted to bow to me, but their human sides were stubborn.
As they attacked I punched the first ones snout and then elbowed his jaw as I turned and dodged the seconds ones attack as he flew over me and landed on the first wolf .I wasted no time in making sure they were down, I had to stay focused.
I was using none of my werewolf strength at all.
The third one circled, and at once when he saw an opportunity to attack me he launched himself at me and pushed me to the ground.
I wanted him to think I was weak and vulnerable; he was the one that made me do this. His would be the punishment that hurt the most. His claws dug into my skin, but I did not wince at the pain nor did I put up much of a fight as he tried to claw at my face.
I heard a few gasps and some people begging him to stop, but he would not listen. He was too far gone and I soon realized why as I entered his mind.
He had let a piece of information slip about the pack’s patrols after screwing some w***e who had found him at a bar not too far from here.
I had had enough. I managed to raise my knees to his mid-section and get him off me. I rolled away from him and then jumped up. He was a few feet away from me. I ran up to him and jumped on his back. I wrapped my arms around his neck and choked him until his wolf had lost consciousness and he passed out in human form.
“Does anyone else have a problem with me taking charge?” I asked out loud and watched all the pack members look at me with fear in their eyes and only the warriors showed respect to me.
“I want this man to be placed in the dungeon. He is a traitor.” I said and watched as two of the pack warriors dragged his unconscious body away.
“Now all of you can go back to normal. There is no reason to stop going on as usual. Jayden will direct you and tell you all you need to know when we have more information.
I ignored the packs silent remarks and made my way to the office. “Are you mad?” Jayden yelled at me as he took in all of my injuries. “You didn’t even smell like a werewolf when you fought those men. Even now, those wounds should at least be half-way healed by now. What is going on Callie?”
There is no way I can tell him now; he might just think I am a freak. I ignored his question and quickly changed my DNA structure back to normal.
“I am fine, Jay. There is nothing to worry about.”
“You are kidding me. Where did you even learn to fight like that?”
I couldn’t answer him. My family must never find out about all that I have been through.
Sarah must have sensed that because no sooner had he said that, was she by his side calming him down. “Jayden let her be for now. We need to focus on finding your mother.”
“About that. Alex.” I said and turned to Alex. “Do you think you can do a locator spell to track down my mother?”
“It won’t be hard, but something tells me that whoever kidn*pped her will have gone to great measures in making sure no one can locate her.” Alex said. “I need a map and something that belonged to her. Callie, can I borrow your necklace?”
I really didn’t want to take off my necklace. It is the only thing that has been helping me to keep a lid on my gifts. If I take it off, I might not be Callie anymore. There is a darkness buried inside me, something that I had to take in to save my friends a year ago. It nearly killed me and I nearly killed my friends because of it.
The necklace I wore, absorbed that part of me. If I ever take it off there is a chance I will lose control and let my evil side control me. I cannot let that happen.
“Callie, I know what you are thinking but this might be the only way we can help your mother.
We might not be able to find the poudretteite mineral anywhere soon for months to come.” Alex said.
The pinkish peach like stone rested between my breasts. I lifted it up and held it tightly in my hand.
“I will only need it for a few minutes. You just have to trust in yourself. I won’t let anything happen to your family. I promise.” Alex was doing his best to get me to relax and just hand over the stone to him. The properties in this stone have some magical functions that will help get through any blocks that might have been placed on my mother. I knew that much, I also knew that Alex was right. It is extremely difficult to get hold of this stone. It took my friends days to find the one I wore now.
“Okay, but I want to be placed in the dungeon hand cuffed with silver and I want you to shove wolfsbane down my throat and spells placed on my cage so that I won’t be able to get out.” I told Alex and everyone else.
“Are you insane? You might as well tell us to kill you one time. I won’t allow that.” My father yelled. “Callie, explain to me why we have to do that. Just give Alex your necklace.”
“I can’t do that. This necklace is the only thing that keeps me, me. If I don’t wear it I could end up killing you all and I cannot let that happen. So do as I have said or I might as well kill myself now so that you can find mom and whoever kidn*pped her and kill them all.” I said and saw that Joseph once again looked worried.
I know what I said was not right, but I would kill myself so that they could find my mother. My life is not important and I have no mate to worry about. Everything will be just fine.
“Okay.” My father relented; he knew I spoke the truth.
Jayden looked at my father like he too had just gone mad and stormed out of the room.
I wish I felt something for the way he went about this, but I felt nothing. I have been feeling bits and pieces of emotions that have left me long ago. Now I have told myself that I need to let them all go again.
I was taken to the dungeon and had my hands chained behind my back and my ankles were chained together as well with silver. Before my father gave me the wolfs bane I saw the sadness in his eyes and knew this is hurting him. If only he knew all the things I have been through, he would realize this is just a walk in the park for me.
“Alex already spelled the cage. The moment I swallow that wolfs bane, you need to rip my necklace off and get out of here.” I told my father.
He simply nodded and did as told.
As soon as the wolfs bane touched my lips I felt the burn and knew this was going to hurt like a b***h but I had to protect my family, even though it was from me.
Alex, better be quick!
