“I… I still can’t see anything.” I said, while tears streamed down my cheeks.
“WHAT?!” the Emperor yelled in disbelief.
“Let’s try again, Princess.” Randal calmly said.
Randal repeated his healing spell on my eyes again. But when I opened my eyes again, I still couldn’t see anything at all. Nothing but complete darkness.
“Maybe this is really my reality now. The darkness will be my new world.” I said. I had my hopes up for a bit, but now I truly understand that this will be my new world starting now.
“What’s the meaning of this Randal? Why can’t she still see anything?” the Emperor said.
“I don’t know as well Linfred, this is new to me. At normal cases, there’s nothing I couldn’t heal.” Randal paused for a moment. “But when I tried using my healing spell for the second time, I felt other magic spell within her eyes. It might be some kind of curse. What kind of weapon did they use to stab your eyes, Princess?”
“Dagger. It’s a dagger.” I replied.
“It seems like that dagger wasn’t just any ordinary blade you could see. It was cursed with magic.” he continued.
“So, it only means that it’s not just some kind of any ordinary stab wounds that blinded my child?” the Emperor asked.
“Yes… as a matter of fact, I was able to heal the stab wound inflicted by the dagger completely. But I couldn’t easily remove the magic spell that embedded in her eyes. I’ll look into this matter and solve the mystery.” Randal reassured.
“Of course, that’s how it’s supposed to be. What would be any use of having an Archmage here in this country if he couldn’t handle healing my child, the Princess of this nation.” the Emperor scoffed.
Randal could only sigh. It seemed to me like he’s saying that he’s used on the Emperor’s personality. Now, when I come to think of it, he was able to talk with the Emperor with casualness. That only means, he’s one of the close friends of the Emperor in this country. He could even dare to call the Emperor by his name alone.
“Then, I shall be going.” Randal said.
“Yes, thank you for your help Mr. Randal.” I said.
“It’s my honor serving you, Princess.” he replied, with his voice full of utmost respect.
After that healing sessions with the county’s archmage, the Emperor returned to his desk to continue the documents he ought to do. Of course, he let me sit again in his lap. I could hear every stroke his pen made on the paper, and feel the slight movements he does. In my situation right now, well I couldn’t really do anything. It’s not like I could just begin reading a book, right? And so, the feeling drowsiness got to me without me noticing it.
Few minutes later…
Someone knocked on the door of the Emperor’s office. It swung open and Fodel entered the room. He brought tons of papers with him. He put it down on the Emperor’s table.
“What the hell are this papers Fodel?” Linfred shot the chancellor with piercing a piercing gaze.
“Oh? Well, that’s just the stock piled paper works you left when you suddenly charged towards Prilassi, Your Majesty.” he replied.
Linfred could only sigh and leaned on his seat while holding his daughter carefully. Fodel noticed the child on Linfred’s lap who was quietly and peacefully sleeping by his father’s arms.
“You are starting to look like a real father right now, you know that.” Fodel said.
“Am I?” Linfred smiled and caressed the child’s head gently.
“Why? What would you call a guy with a child on his lap and arms while working on his office? Would you rather call it Phedo… Ack!” Fodel couldn’t finish his statement because Linfred threw something on his head.
“How careless of you! You could even easily throw your official Emperor’s seal? What if I’ll run away with this and announce that I am the new emperor of this country? What will you do?” Fodel protested.
Linfred chuckled. “It’s pretty simple. I’ll just erase you in this world.”
“Okay, here’s the seal, I’ll return it.” Fodel placed returned the seal on Linfred’s desk. “I am happy and contented on my position. I wouldn’t even think about ascending as the emperor if you’ll be the one, I’d replace.”
Linfred could only shake his head in defeat. He knew that his friend was only kidding about him saying about being the Emperor because even if he’s the chancellor of the country he doesn’t run of out words to say and complain all the time. Linfred knew that even if his friend was lazy-minded even being a chancellor of the country, his wits and smartness were unparalleled in the country.
“You can bring your kids here next time.” Linfred said.
“What? What will you do with my boys?” Fodel asked.
“What would it be Fodel?” the Emperor asked sarcastically.
“The last time I brought my kids here, it seemed like you almost flipped the whole palace because you were annoyed to them being noisy and silly.” Fodel crossed his arms.
“I’ll let them play with Tyesha, so she won’t even be bored.” Linfred said.
“Tyesha? Who’s…” Fodel’s gaze locked on the child sleeping in Linfred’s arms. “Oh… okay… but your child is a girl Linfred and my kids are both boys. A rowdy twin to be exact. Can she even blend in with those two? You know, boys’ games are entirely different from girls.”
“Don’t worry Fodel. If they ever make my daughter cry, I’ll just sweep and erase them no problem.” Linfred smirked.
Boys, don’t worry dad will save you! Fodel cried on his mind. He could picture out the scenario in his mind where Linfred tries to trash the two boys and he charged in to shield them with his body.
“Bring them here tomorrow.” Linfred said and continued writing on the reports he had to do.
Fodel could only sigh. “Fine… fine… I’ll bring my boys tomorrow… I am sure your daughter would be delighted to be with her fellow child here in the palace.”
Linfred only smiled and caressed her daughter’s head.
