Chapter seven:The new job

"This is your office Miss Estella" said Kenzie as she showed Estella to her space.

"Wow, this is nice" said Estella as she looked at her office;it was small but it was equipped with a laptop,a printer, tablets and other devices to make her work easy. She was impressed.

"I'll leave you now as you have a lot of work to do". Kenzie said as she left Estella's office.

After Kenzie left, she looked around and gasped in shock. Her office was beside Xander's office and he could see her from his office through the glass wall. "s**t" she cursed. She was wondering why a personal assistant would get a office and now everything fell into place. This fool wanted to monitor her. 'This is going to be harder than I thought' she said to herself

Estella sat down at her desk as soon as she was settled in, she remembered what happened in Xander's office and how attracted she was to Xander. "What's wrong with me? Why was I so affected by his closeness? She was shocked by how her body reacted to him. "No! I have to get these thoughts out of my head!". She exclaimed.

She looked at the files on her table and gulped seeing the pile of paperwork on her table.

"How in the world am I going to finish this by the end of the day?" She asked herself

She looked up from her desk and saw Xander staring at her from his office. 'Why is he looking at me?. I better get to work'. Xander on the other hand was content seeing the uneasiness on Estella's face.

"So tell me what happened between you two" Andrew said as he entered into Xander's office.

Xander glared at Andrew and didn't reply.

"Don't tell me you're still mad at me. I couldn't hide such a big thing from grandfather. How was I supposed to know she was the heir of Jenner cosmetics company or that grandfather knew her mom. None of this is my fault".

"It's your fault Andrew. Grandfather doesn't need know need to know everything that happens" Xander snapped at Andrew.

"Hey, it's not my fault. Besides, he was going to find out anyway and you know it". Xander sighed knowing what Andrew said was true. Seeing Xander couldn't come up with a comeback, Andrew asked "So how did you convince her to take the job?".

"I didn't have to do anything. She came back and told me she wanted the job". Xander answered plainly.

"There's something about her but I'm not able to wrap my fingers around it". He muttered to himself but Andrew heard what Xander said and teased him "Maybe because she is the first woman to gain your attention or maybe because she's is the first woman trying not to date you".

Xander ignored Andrew and looked at Estella from the glass wall. He could see Estella working on the files he had given her.

"I can't believe I had the urge to kiss her" he said unconsciously.

"What!!!" Andrew exclaimed in shock. "You're joking right?" asked Andrew. "OMG!" Exclaimed Andrew "for the first time, my brother has expressed interest in a woman and it just so happens to be the one who is not intimidated by you. Wow!".

"Shut your mouth Andrew and not a word about this to anybody especially Grandpa" Xander snapped as he looked at Estella again.

Andrew couldn't help but smile seeing how Xander was looking at Estella repeatedly.

"Wow, looks like she has made you crazy. You have been staring at her non stop. Looks like someone has fallen in love"

"Andrew!"shouted Xander. "If you speak about this again, I'll kill you" Xander threatened Andrew. Xander looked at Estella again and said "She acts like she is so tough, let's see for how long". Xander wryly expressed.

Andrew was confused at Xander's words and asked "What do you mean?". Xander smirked and said "None of your business".

Andrew stood up and said "Go easy on her Xander, if you overwork her now, then how is she going to satisfy you in bed later" After his statement, he ran out of Xander's office as Xander cursed at him.

Xander wanted to kill Andrew when he heard those words. He looked at Estella;as soon as he looked at her, his mind started thinking about their eyelock. "s**t" he cursed.

Meanwhile, Estella was having fun working on the files. She noticed that the files were already organized which made her work easy. She felt satisfied after seeing that the files were all her area of speciality. She felt proud as she wrote the reports. She wasn't the best graduating student for nothing.

She didn't realize how fast time had passed till she received a text from her mother asking her how the job was going. She noticed that it was already in the evening. She had been working for hours. She texted a mother and told her that the job was going great. She didn't want to tell her mom about Xander.

She continued her work not minding the time or the fact that she hasn't had lunch. She focused her attention to her reports. She wanted it to be perfect Mr Grumpy would not have a reason to complain that she was incompetent.

She was almost done when she noticed a man in her office. She looked at him and recognized him as the man who was with Xander when she crashed into his car. She stood up to greet him.

"Good evening Miss Jenner, let me formally introduce myself. I'm Andrew Miller and i'm the vice president of this company" Andrew extended his hand and Estella accepted it with a smile.

"It's nice to meet you sir" Estella answered.

Andrew smiled "Please call me Andrew, calling me sir makes me feel like an old man and I'm not like the Grumpy old CEO" he said and Estella laughed at his words and said

"If Mr Grumpy over there hears you, then there is going to be a big problem". Andrew couldn't help but laugh "Wow, I salute you Estella. No one dares to stand up to Xander except yours truly. Everyone is afraid of him but here you are. You are one brave woman".

Estella laughed and said "I know how to deal with men like him. But how do you deal with him?". She asked.

"He's not all that bad. He is a good guy. Though you may feel he's arrogant, he's just scared of... " Andrew words were cut short as someone yelled his name.

Estella and Andrew were both startled.

Andrew turned back and his face became pale upon seeing Xander glaring at him. Xander didn't like Andrew talkin about his past. Before Xander could speak, Andrew quickly said "I was just welcoming our new employee. I should get going I have a meeting" With that, he rushed out of Estella's office.

Xander turned to look at Estella and asked "Are you done with the reports?"

"Not yet sir" Estella answered.

"Looks like I have gotten myself an incompetent assistant who cannot handle my work". Xander said.

"Well sir, I was almost done with the reports but then, Mr Miller came in and it would have been rude of me to ignore him sir".Estella replied with anger.

"And about me being useless, you've been watching me all day sir; ever since you gave me these files, I have been working on them non-stop. I even missed lunch so I could complete them. I said I'll give you my best and when I make a promise, I don't break it sir. The more you stand here, the longer it takes to finish the reports".

Xander's eyes squinted "how come she isn't afraid of me", he asked himself. He didn't say anything to Estella. He went back to his office. A few minutes later, Estella knocked on his door and handed him the report.

Xander was shocked. He did not believe that she would finish with the files. Estella noticed the look on Xander's face and felt satisfied with herself. "Is there any problem sir? Your face looks pale". She teased. Xander looked at Estella but cursed when his eyes fell on her lips. He had that urge again.

Hell no! This woman was making him feel things he did not want to. The room suddenly felt smaller. He looked at the files and dismissed her "You can go home Miss Estella"

Estella did not waste any time leaving his office as she was feeling suffocated. As soon as she reached her car, she looked at her phone and saw that it is was already six o'clock. She had made it through day one. She sighed in frustration and mused 'This is going to be harder than I thought'
