Chapter 4: Got you a new job

The next day after Estella returned to Asteria, Mrs Jenner called her to her room. Estella knocked on her mother's door and entered after her mother told her to come in.

"Mom you called for me"

"Yes Estella, I have finally decided on what your punishment should be"

"But mom that's not fair. I'm twenty three;are you really going to punish me",

"It's the only way for to become responsible again" Mrs Jenner looked at her daughter intently. She had changed a lot after that incident. Before that, Estella was a timid and shy lady who was responsible and not as reckless as she is now.

She sighed and continued to stare at her daughter. All she wanted for for Estella to forget about the man who had hurt her and move on. She wanted a daughter who could take over the company and Estella wasn't that person not as she is.

"Mom" Mrs Jenner jolted back to reality.

"I'm getting old Estella and I want to hand over the company to you but i cannot do so until I'm sure you're ready to lead"

"But mom, what else do I need to prove I'm ready to lead. I was the top student of my class and graduated with Honours what more do you want from me? " asked Estella as she was starting to get irritated.

"You need to see the real business world Estella and convince me you're ready for it. Mrs Jenner knew how dangerous the business world was and it could be dangerous for Estella as she made decisions without thinking. She didn't want to see her daughter taken advantage of. Not anymore.

Estella was starting to get impatient "Mom, can we get this over with already?" Estella knew one thing, looking at her mother's expression, she was not going to like it one bit.

Mrs Jenner looked at her daughter and said "I have gotten you a job at a Software company as the personal assistant to the CEO"

"What!!! " Estella. She couldn't believe how irrational her mother was. "Why would you do that? " Her mother was being really unreasonable.

"I'm not going to take the job mom and that's final" Estella yelled.

Mrs Jenner couldn't bear it anymore and yelled back at her daughter "oh yes you will. If you want to get your inheritance, then you'll take the job".

"You've changed a lot since... "Mrs Jenner couldn't complete her sentence as she didn't want to open Estella's old wounds.

Estella yelled back "Yes I have changed mom and I like me better this way where no one can take advantage of me"

"You don't care about yourself and I'm sick of it" At this point, Mrs Jenner was already crying "Don't you understand, you are my only child what would I do if something were to happen to you. I know you're old enough to make your own decisions but don't forget that I'm still your mother and and anytime you're trailing off the right path, I'll be there to bring you back. If you think you are stubborn, then I am more stubborn than you".

"You're starting on Monday and that's final" saying that, she dismissed Estella.

Estella stormed out of her mother's room angrily
