Chapter Seventeen
“So what’s going on here?” Robert Parker asked as soon as the screen door to the house slapped shut behind Scarlett.
The rest of her family were all standing, watching the drama unfold, and Emmett had seen the moment she’d tried to plead with him. She hadn’t wanted this, and he’d brought it right to her doorstep. He was just doing a bang-up job here. Instead of doing the right thing, he was hurting someone he never wanted to hurt.
How was he going to explain this?
“I had to give Scarlett some news, and I’m afraid I didn’t handle it well,” Emmett said.
