CHAPTER 2 – Where are you, my precious mate? Xavier’s POV “So gentlemen, I need your business review reports on my table tomorrow at 8.00. a.m. sharp. Those who don’t finish their reports can place their resignation letter on my table. I have given you all enough time, but you all f****d it up!” I stood up from my chair, my voice echoing through the meeting room. Why can’t these people do a single task properly? “You heard Mr. Duncan! Now go and finish your reports rather than looking at our faces,” my manager ordered the department heads. They quickly peeled off their glued a***s from the meeting room chairs and bolted out the door, making a chuckle escape my mouth. “You are a one tough bad a**, Kendrick,” I said to him while typing an email to my foreign client. “I have to, otherwise these bastards won’t do anything rather than sit here and shove all their work to their subordinates,” he replied, his face still stern.  Kendrick was a middle-aged man in his mid-40s. He was a trustworthy person to my father and a loyal employee of the company. Our company or rather, group of companies, is named, ‘Duncan Group of Companies’. We dealt in the business of household products, such as soap, washing powder, toothpaste, hand wash, liquid dish washes, and many more. I was the CEO of the company and my father held the position of senior director. I didn’t want to take all these responsibilities, but dad forced me to take over the business. “Sir, you have received an invitation from New York High School,” Kendrick informed. “You go, Kendrick. I don’t have time to attend such events,” I replied without even glancing at the invitation. “Sir, I think if you attend this event, it will promote our business more. The media will be also there since this is the biggest high school in the city and one of the most prominent ones in the country. Their prize-giving ceremony will surely attract almost all the attention of the media. Plus, you are one of their major donors,” Kendrick explained, trying to convince me. “You go, Kendrick. You know I don’t like to attend crowded events. They all will ask me the same question. When will I get married? I am so sick of it!” I sighed deeply. “I believe, they are correct. It’s high time to find a partner for you,” Kendrick responded with a smile. “Oh, no! Kendrick, not you too! Now you’re starting to tease me in the office.” I gave him a death glare. “Well, your father found your mom at the age of 20 and he had you when he was your age,” he said, making me sigh once again. “Anyway, you attend their prize-giving ceremony and inform them that I won’t be able to come because I’m out of the country. Just tell them I’m in Italy for a business meeting.” Italy is my favorite country. l'italia è il mio paese preferito. I have learned a little bit about Italy from when I visit the beautiful country, from time to time. “Kendrick, I’ll be leaving now. I’m feeling tired. I need a rest and a good stretch.” I stood up from my chair and bent my body to left and right, extending my arms. “All right sir. See you tomorrow then.” I took my laptop and headed down to my vehicle. The elevator descended from the 50th floor of the Duncan tower. I had a Range Rover SUV and all my favorite vehicles were SUVs. My bodyguards got into the other two vehicles and we drove towards our favorite destination. Oh sorry, I didn’t give you a self-intro about myself.  I am Xavier Jonas Duncan who is at the age of 25 and 6.4’ in height. I am an American multi-billionaire, the sole true heir of the Duncan Group of Companies. To the outside world, I was a successful businessman, but there was a deep secret in my life that no one knew. I was also the true alpha of the Golden Crescent pack, which was the largest pack in America, consisting of 800 pack members. My parents were also wolves and my dad was the previous Alpha of the pack. But there was still one thing missing from my life, the important thing to every wolf, a mate! I was desperately waiting for a mate, my Luna, my other half. I knew that I was possessive over my mate and the day I meet my mate, I wouldn’t let her go away from my embrace even for a second. I would hold her tight in my arms and make love to her, all day long. Everyone claims that I have a body like a Greek god and I am aware of it. I do morning runs every day with my Beta and Gamma. We wolves usually are good-looking and physically stronger than 10 humans. Every girl who looks at me yearns to have a one-night stand, but trust me, I don’t give a damn about them. I was waiting for my mate to enter my life. My manager, Kendrick, didn’t know this part of my life since he is a human. However, my bodyguards were all wolves. Eventually, we arrived at the packhouse. The large kingdom gates were opened by the guards. “Good evening Alpha!” they greeted me. “Good evening Christopher.” I nodded my head with a smile. I was a tough guy in the business world and when it came to official matters, but I was kind-hearted to my pack members. After the main gates, we drove our vehicles for another six or seven minutes before reaching the main packhouse. You can imagine how massive my territory is. We needed a large space to shift and run, plus 800 wolves needed a huge space. My heart shattered with the words Kendrick said, which is why I rushed to the packhouse for a run, to blow off some steam. I got down from the vehicle and my Beta came to welcome me. “Evening Alpha! What made our Alpha visit the packhouse this evening, all of a sudden?” he asked with a teasing smile. “Good evening, Mason. Hope you are looking after the pack well while I’m not here.” I punched him in the stomach playfully. Mason was someone who I trusted with my life. “Of course, Alpha. Tell me, why are you here unexpectedly?” he questioned sarcastically but also with concern. “Shall we go for a run? Loki needs to stretch his a**!” I suggested. Oh, by the way, Loki is my wolf. “Hey! Wait a minute, are you going for a run without me? Without this handsome Gamma?” Justin approached the living room, wearing nothing but his shorts. “May I know why you’re roaming the packhouse with nothing but shorts?” I demanded, sitting on my comfortable sofa, my eyes staring at Justin. “Uhh, the girls wanted to have a show of all this goodness. So, I gave it to them  freely.” Justin gestured at his well-toned abs and strong arms with pride. “Okay, enough talk. Shall we start our run?” I stood up from the sofa. “Xavier, son, when did you arrive? Are you all right? Why did you come unexpectedly?” mom entered the living room looking worried. “Oh, come on, mom. I just came to have a rest, that’s it.” I hugged her and her protective arms wrapped around me, making me melt in the warmth of her hug. “Looks like the three of you are up to something. All right then, I won’t interrupt you,” she teased with a smile. So, the three of us ran to the forest at lightning speed and shifted to our wolves immediately. We ran around freely and jumped onto each other playfully until our wolves were covered with mud and dust. “I don’t like to stick to that concrete life which you are living in,” Loki confessed to me. “I know that you don’t like it and that’s why I thought to let you run around freely,” I responded. “Oh, careful! Mason’s wolf is gonna jump onto you,” I alerted, and in a blink of an eye, Mason’s and Justin’s wolves both jumped onto Loki. We ran around the forest for more than an hour and finally headed to our swimming spot, the pack stream. We jumped into the stream while shifting to our human form. Luckily, we kept some extra basketball shorts in a safe place near the stream. “Good Evening, Alpha!” the little pups gathered around me as soon as we returned to the pack territory. The run helped me to release my stress and gave Loki a good stretch. “Good Evening, pups. How are you all doing?” I smiled at them while removing dirt from my face. “We are good, Alpha. We also want to have a run with you, but our mom never let us,” a little girl with curly grey hair said in a complaining tone. “Oh, you will get a chance when you grow up,” I replied, pulling her into my arms. “No, we want to run with you now and I want to have a mate just as handsome like you,” she responded while kissing my cheek. “Alpha, when will I be able to get a mate?” a stubborn little boy asked. Oh no, here comes the mate topic again. Even these pups are not allowing me to live peacefully. “And where is your mate?” he asked me before I could answer. “Alright, that’s enough children! Stop teasing Alpha. It’s time for your dinner. Sorry, Alpha.” Their mom came and took them inside. I couldn’t deny them, after all, they were correct. I always loved those pups. They made my day wonderful and stress-free. When I find my mate I am gonna have lots and lots of cute pups with her. I will impregnate her until she says no more pups and I’ll make love to her every day every moment. I will not spare her for a moment. Before that, I have to find my mate that I am desperately waiting for. Sometimes I get really disappointed and so does my wolf. That was why I woke up early in the morning every day and go for a run. It calmed me and my wolf down. Where are you, my precious mate? Usually, a wolf finds his/her mate after their first shift, which is at the age of 18. But we Alphas shift at the age of 16. I am 25 now and still haven’t found my mate. It had been 9 f*****g years. My beta and all the pack members, even those who recently shifted also, had already found their mate. I felt ashamed of myself sometimes. A pack without a Luna is incomplete. We the Golden Crescent pack needed to have a future, an Alpha should be born as an heir. But to do all those things, I had to find her. I am coming for you mate. Just wait and watch. “She must be somewhere near us, I can sense that,” Loki, my wolf, suddenly declared. “Oh, really? Are you sure? Then where is she? Why isn’t she coming to us? Why haven’t we found her yet?” I demanded, my heart aching with loneliness. “I think you should accept that prize-giving ceremony invitation from the school,” Loki advised. “Why is that?” I retorted curiously while walking up to my room. “I have a feeling that something will happen,” he replied. “I don’t know, Loki. I am fed up with this mate topic!” I laid on the bed and sighed deeply. “Be patient. She must be very special, that’s why it takes time to find her,” my wolf advised. “I don’t know, we will see. We have to rush for the annual Alphas’ meeting in Philadelphia and then to the business meeting in New York tomorrow,” I replied and cut off my wolf.
