I finally found her scent, I followed it to a cabin off to the edge of the forest. I watched from the tree line; I didn’t want to get to close. I didn’t want to spook her due to the dangers out in here. I watched for what seemed like forever. I had to move closer and see if I could get a better look at the one the Moon Goddess made for me.
I moved closer to the little cabin, the lights were on, I could hear the water running; I could smell her scent. Without noticing, Lucious moved even closer. As soon as we reached the window of the house, the wind blew. Catching the intoxicating scent, I looked up only to see a shadow above me.
In that moment, the shadow from the roof of the cabin leapt and collided into me moments later sending electric jolts through me. Stunned, Lucious inhaled deeply and let out an earth-shaking growl. The person held on tightly, forcing us to the ground; at that moment the scent hit us. It was her, she jumped on top of a full-grown wolf without fear.
Lucious untensed our body and laid there with no sense of fight in him our body as the electric sparks danced through us. She began to shake as if she was having a reaction to the sparks as well, or maybe her fear finally kicked in.
“You are not allowed on this property; it belongs to an Alpha and I am his guest.” She spoke with so much conviction.
Lucious allowed me to shift back under her to speak with the divine beauty. “I am the only Alpha in these woods and this surely isn’t my home. I think you are mistaken beautiful.”
I wrapped my arms around her waist holding her tight to me, when she looked up in shock.
“I thought you were one of those wendigo things. I am so sorry.” her voice became shaky.
“I won’t object to having you jump on top of me. You have no fear in the heat of the moment. What is your name and why are you on the border of the forest?” I spoke in a demanding but gentle voice.
“I...I... My gran owns this, she was... uh... mated to an Alpha before the war...” She tried to push away; I only gripped her tighter. “She brought me here... To keep me safe from being transported to a shifter island.”
My eyes went wide, humans were moving my kind to an island instead of letting them just leave their cities when they were born. Although, no one expected that shifter children were even born anymore. I moved my face to the crook of her neck and inhaled deeply. “Are you a born shifter?”
She jerked and started to tremble.
“I won’t hurt you, but if your grandmother didn’t want you to be moved to this shifter island my only thought as to why is that you are a shifter like myself.” I smiled down at her.
“Yes, I am, but I am a rare breed from what I have been told. I am not supposed to talk about it to anyone and I wasn’t supposed to leave the safety of the walls of my new home.” She spoke quietly.
I stood up, picking her up with me, walking around to the front doors. “Well, let’s get you back inside then and we can continue this conversation.”
