Nyx
I can recall my first memories. They start with me waking up in that place. I was a little girl. This institution looked medical, and there were other children like me. Children who were confused and scared. Others asked for their parents. Honestly, I didn't even remember if I had any. At first, they would bring us all up to do some medical checkups, saying that it was necessary to make sure we were healthy. As for why, we didn't know. There was already concern as we were getting checked and left in medical gowns. Any possession that a child had was taken away. The first time that fear consumed us was when we were placed in a large cell and left there for two days without food or water and just a bucket for any necessities. A bucket for twenty children. After the first two days, we were instructed to fight. If we wanted to make it out, we needed to earn it. Scared and deprived of basic needs, we tried to survive and support each other; we all did. We were just children. Eventually, hunger, sleep deprivation, and fear seeped in. Older kids started fighting and eliminating little by little the younger ones. I remember being protected by one of them, though I don't remember his face. I even had to fight for my life and fight I did. I ask not to be asked for details regarding this cruel scene. It's not worth it. Out of twenty in that room, five made it out, including me. This happened in four other rooms as well. The ones that made it were labeled by a doctor who always had guards protecting him. Doctor Levins. We were branded with numbers; those were our names. I don't remember if I was ever called something else besides 015. There was something about these people, whatever their plan was, I didn't know at that time, but I knew that they needed us. If we thought the cell was a problem, what we experienced was worse. After that, I rarely saw the other kids. Growing up there, I was tested and prodded. I fought and proved my worth. They would leave me in a pod where they would monitor my body and give me different shots that made my skin and my insides burn. The pain would radiate all over, and it got to the point that screaming was pointless. I was not motivated to keep doing that same routine or beg for mercy. They placed these needles inside my head to give them the images they needed for further testing. A brain interface was what they called it. That's when I was tagged so they could track wherever I was in the facility. They were humans. Humans run the company, and wolves are part of it. They are the ones that keep the funding coming. Years passed, and hope was brought back to me when I met Mila. She was a young wolf and afraid. One of the last batches that was brought in. She was placed under the care of Lucy, another employee within the company. Playing with mixes and different genetic markers, they wanted to create strong soldiers. Lucy told me this. If it wasn't for Mila and for Lucy, I would've given up on life years ago. She is the reason I'm still here.
Caedmon's POV
Hearing her speak so calmly about everything that they've gone through made my blood boil. I will make every filthy fcker that did this pay with their lives. She finished her story, and we just stayed quiet, trying to process all that was just said. It took everything for me not to shift and go on a rampage. I am taken away from my thought process when Mishka enters the room. Does she not know how to fkn knock?
Did you dare to open the door to the alpha's office without warning?
I'm sorry. It is a little late for you to be at the office, and I wanted to check up on you since I noticed the light was on. I didn't know you were not to be disturbed. Wait, what is she doing here? Asked Mishka in a tone that I was not going to tolerate. She is my guest and none of your business. I don't know what makes you think you have a say in this, but you are treating on a thread right now, so choose your words carefully.
I cannot believe that you would treat me this way. You've never even given me the chance, but you swoon over this btch!
I roared at this as I stood up from my desk, trying not to break the one that Zach had brought. She would pay for the insubordination. Just as I'm about to kick Mishka out, Nyx stands up. Don't worry. I was already done with the conversation. I've got more pressing matters to tend to than an adult who never learned how to behave. If you will excuse me, I would like to see my sister.
Seeing her leave had me seething. I was done with Mishka's games. You will pack your things and go. A warrior will go with you to send you into town. I will revoke your bond with the pack, and you will be labeled a rogue.
Mishka's eyes bulged out as she was trying to comprehend what I said. Theo started escorting her out as she screamed that this wouldn't be the end of her. From what it seems, it is. Luke walks out after Theo leaves. I know he will go to Nyx and talk to her.
Luke's POV
Nyx came out from seeing Mila, and she started walking outdoors, and I had a feeling that I knew where she was going. As predicted, she went to the greenhouse. Even at this hour and with everything going on, she seemed to find some serenity within this space. I entered and looked at her. She seemed receptive to my presence, so I walked closer to her.
I wasn't supposed to be here. Then again, it seems that there is no easy way to outrun the past. She pondered on her words as she looked at the lilies that were in full bloom.
Neither of you are alone. She smiled softly and walked around the rest of the flowers. So, can I ask, why the sea? She paused for a moment and looked at me. Because it brings me peace, it's something that reaches far beyond what the eye can see, almost never-ending. Something about that statement didn't sit well with me, but I didn't want to bombard her with questions. Letting that conversation go, we went back into the pack house to grab her dinner. Theo had already left. He ensured that Mishka was sent with one of his warriors outside the pack.
Mishka's POV
I cannot fkn believe this. Why?! Why didn't he look at me?! All I wanted was to stand beside him. But no, not even a proper conversation was ever given. It didn't matter. Even when I threw myself at him on his eighteen birthday, he didn't do a thing. He rejected me because I wasn't his mate, and he would wait for his. If only I could've been his mate, then I wouldn't be in this situation. I would've been his strong Luna, standing beside him, carrying his pups. This fkn cnt is the reason why I'm being kicked out. Is she his mate? That would make perfect sense based on how he looks at her. That disgusting hybrid. Can she not feel the bond? Never mind, I'll make sure she is off the table by any means necessary.
