Chapter 1: Can You Hear The Music?
Music, loud, obnoxious, and booming music, it hurt my ears how loud it was that night, but I didn’t mind, how could I? I was too busy dancing with him. There’s a beginning to every story, and this one is no different so before I get into that part of our story, you have to start from the beginning, before I met him, before the music, before everything happened, before our lives changed for good, here is where you will start. “Autumn, Autumn Aurum, Honey wake up” I could hear her faintly calling my name, distinctively recognizing my last name, as I sit up unable to see properly, I rub my eyes clearing a path for my vision to be set free as I look next to me at my phone alarm. My last name is hard to pronounce Aurum, it’s a weird name to think about to, about seventy-five percent of people I meet say it completely wrong even when they try their hardest not to, and the other twenty-five percent who do say it right is my family who have known me since birth. My mom says she named me Autumn because it’s her favorite season, and also because I was born in autumn, my dad says my last name is latin, he says it means gold. I think about it and it doesn’t make sense to name me Autumn Gold seeing as I’m not the prettiest girl you could ever see, nor am I one of those preppy smart girls who shine no matter what, I’m just me, Autumn Aurum, the nerd and sometimes the stalker, depending on what story you’ve heard about me. Here’s what I think; I think that we legally shouldn’t name our children until we know them personally, then people wouldn’t have names that don’t fit them. Like me for example, I’m introverted, quiet, and observant, in my opinion gold wants to outshine diamonds. They’re the opposite of me, I'm not shiny, preppy, and I’m definitely not out for the spotlight and attention so why am I the one with the last name “gold”? If you want an example of “gold” you should get to know Skye, Syke Nakano is practically picture perfect, she’s radiant, the center of attention, she always has clear skin and hey she’s really smart too, though she claims it on having her strict asian parents always on her about it, she’s rich, and so much more so if you want someone to call “gold” talk to her. Skye would give you a headache and make you envy her all at once, it’s what happens to almost everyone, probably even her super rich boyfriend thinks she’s annoying, and she’s all goody two shoes around him, behind his back though she’s a snobby brat, I would know.
