Chapter four

Holly's POV I was losing time. My claws extended and I tore my backpack apart in search of my inhaler. I looked down at my scattered belongings on the tarred road, looking for that one thing that could save my life. I didn't see it. My feet gave out under me and I fell. I clutched my chest in a bid to ease the tightening in my heart but it was futile. I struggled on the wet tarred road, begging for breath. My wolf couldn't help. She blocked me from reaching her because of her mate's betrayal. I wish I could call out for help but that was a luxury I couldn't afford at the moment. Fear and anxiety coursed through me. I didn’t want to die. But it was just me on a lonely road. Nobody else. I was going to die alone. The rain poured down heavily. I was freezing. Tears strode down the side of my face as I laid helplessly on the road. This was it for me. My end. ***** The soft feel of smooth linen underneath my skin as I stirred made me blink awake. I took in the sight of the space, recognising it as my bedroom. I sat up quickly. “How did I get here?” There was a gap in my memory. The last I remember was… Am I dead? But why am I in my room? A knock on the door alerted me someone was coming in. The door opened, revealing a woman I know so well. “Mom?” “Honey,” I saw relief flush across her face as she hurried to me. My dad walked in after her, holding a bunch of flowers in his hand. Mom wrapped her hands around me and I winced at the tight embrace. She exhaled. “Thank goddess.” “Mom…” Her embrace was too tight and my body ached. I wriggled. “Mom, let go. I'm suffering.” “Oh,” She pulled away quickly, “I'm sorry.” She wiped off her tears. My heart melted seeing her tears. I didn't know she was crying. “I'm just…I'm just happy seeing you up and healthy.” She looked away as tears fell from her eyes. “I couldn't have forgiven myself if something bad had happened to you knowing you left the house because I was fighting with your father.” She bursted into uncontrollable tears. “Mom,” My heart pricked. I hate seeing my mom cry. I hugged her, patting her back softly. My dad just stood looking at us. The scent of the flowers he was holding wafted into my nose. I was sure they were for me. I wondered what I did to earn a bunch of flowers from my dad. My dad only gave me flowers whenever I did something he's so proud of. I didn't remember any recent thing I've done to make him proud. I broke the embrace with my mom and cleaned her tears. While I was thankful I didn't die, I was also curious about what happened last night. “Mom,” “Yes, hun.” “How did I get here?” “Oh, dear, a patrol guard brought you. He said he found you on the road struggling. He found your inhaler and fed it to you before you fainted.” “You mean the same inhaler I looked all over for?” I shook my head in disbelief. “Angel, why were you even on the road? Weren't you supposed to be in your aunt's house?” I stiffened, remembering Maggie. My heart ached, reminding me of my break up with her. I felt empty without her and it took all of me to hold back my tears. I couldn't cry before my parents. They would go all out to find out what happened last night. I couldn't risk it. If they find out about my relationship with Maggie. She might end up dead tomorrow. Dating and sleeping with your kind in our world are seen as sacred defilement and its justifiable punishment was death. There was no way I could tell my parents about my breakup with Maggie. “I-I…changed my mind and wanted to come home.” I lied. “Then you should have called your driver.” My dad said. I didn't want to talk on the issue longer so I looked down, keeping a remorseful face. “I'm sorry, dad. I'm sorry mom. I didn't mean to make you worry.” “Hey, it's okay. Your dad and I are happy that you're back home safe and sound.” I pouted my lips cutely and nodded. “And don't go out next time without your driver and bodyguard. You have them to prevent this sort of thing from happening. I would have killed them if something bad had happened to you.” I looked up at my dad. I knew he meant it. “I'm sorry, dad. I won't go anywhere without them anymore.” “Alright, that's enough.” He smiled broadly at me and I reciprocated. “I brought you this.” I squealed out of bed to my dad and took the bunch of flowers from him. I raised it up to my nose and loved the mild scent. I hugged my dad. “Thank you, daddy.” “Mmhmm” He sounded like a proud father. I pulled away and looked up at him, “But why are you giving me flowers?” I still couldn't remember doing anything recently to make him proud. He rubbed my right cheek softly. “You did great, angel. Crescent Moon Alpha, Alpha Mike chose you.” My brows furrowed in confusion. “Choose me?” “Yes, angel. Amongst all the Alpha daughters in America he chose you to be his mate and Luna.” I frowned. I didn't like what my dad was saying. This wasn't the good news I was expecting. “Dad, I don't understand. How can this happen without my consent?” My dad cupped my face in his hands. “I always want the best for you, angel. Alpha Mike will take good care of you and you'll be helping your daddy too. Your marriage with Alpha Mike will seal our alliance with Crescent Moon pack forever.” “Dad! I don't want this.” “Shhh. Be a good girl, angel. Trust me, you will thank me for this. Maybe not now, but soon.” I looked back at my mom. “Mom,” “Your father is right, honey. You have become the envy of all she-wolf in this region.” I turned back to look at my dad. “But dad…” “Don't worry, angel. You will be well taken care of. Mike knows how much you mean to me. Now go on, get ready. His beta will be here in an hour to take you with him to Crescent Moon pack. Alpha Mike can't wait to see you.” “I already packed your bags.” Mom added. “What? Are you sending me away already?” “No dear. We aren't sending you away. We will be coming for your Luna ceremony in a month's time.” Mom said, strolling to me. “Mom,” I was confused. My life was turning upside down and I couldn't do anything to stop it. My mom placed a kiss on my forehead. “Get ready. Let me prepare the dinning.” She left. My dad placed another kiss on my forehead. “Get ready, angel and come down for breakfast before the Beta arrives.” He left too. I bit my lower lip in worry. I didn't know what to do. I always obeyed my dad blindly but this one was hard. Just yesterday I found my mate, broke up with my aunt and almost died, and today I am the chosen mate of an Alpha I only ever heard of his wicked acts and ruthlessness. I sat on the floor and the weight of everything pressed on me. I bursted into tears. What should I do? I am not ready for this. But clearly it was obvious my dad didn't care about how I feel. No one does.
