Chapter 3

The rest of the day went kind off how I thought it would and after multiple boring classes, an awkward lunch with Michelle and Adam and still not getting used to all the stares, I could finally go home.   Honestly though, this day did go pretty well considering the fact that even made some friends. I calmly moved myself between the students but still kept my eyes down, a few glances still coming my way. Apart from my encounter with Ashley though, everyone had been super nice to me and the air that had felt tense when I first stepped in the building, now felt a lot lighter. A brief smile stretched across my face and for once, it was as though all problems that once were, suddenly weren’t anymore.   But of course, luck deciding to not be on my side, I again bumped into someone. This time though, the impact fully landed on me as I fell straight on my butt on my way out. Looking up, I’m was met with some beautiful green yet scary looking eyes staring straight back into mine. He looked hot, incredibly hot but the intimidation that radiated off of him clearly had the upper hand here. I shortly let my eyes wander to the people around him and I gulped as I realized they were all staring at me. Him and the people behind him kind off fulfilled one of those cliché’s high school groups. You know what I mean, the ‘badass guys that all drive motorcycles and wear leather jackets’ group with no other context but that. Realising I should have paid more attention to where I was going, I started to shrink deeper and deeper into the ground, hoping that that would actually be possible. As if sensing my fear, another person stepped from behind him and spoke up. “Dude, you’re scaring her”, the guy spoke up and I felt as though my brain stopped working again. I thought the other one was hot but for this one, saying that would be a major understatement. He was tall and had long dark brown curly hair. You could see his muscles very clearly even though he was wearing, just as expected, a big leather jacket.   “Sorry, she looks like she’s about to cry and I don’t know what to do”, the one I bumped into whispered, looking at his friend as if I couldn’t hear them. Suddenly the light air had tightened around me again and all the problems started wildly spiraling in my head again. They’re not all like him, just relax Ella.   I shook myself out of it and swiftly stood up which caused them to focus back on me. “ ‘She’ is not going to cry”, I spoke, emphasizing the ‘she’, but quickly lost my boldness as I made eye contact with the second guy. Diverting my gaze down, I muttered a quick ‘sorry’ and speedwalked out of there before any of them could reply. “Scared of the newby, good job man”, I heard one of the girls of their group say while I made my way through the doors, mentally cursing myself again.   Get a grip Ella, seriously. I really do have to start giving more attention to looking where I’m going. First time I got loudly yelled at and the second time was as nerve-racking as it was scary. Let’s not go for a third time. Noting that, I made my way to Michelle, who I noticed was already waiting by her car. “Hey, what took you so long?”, she asked as we both entered the car. “I had to get something from my locker”, I lied, not really wanting to explain the previous events. Not sure I even knew how to explain them anyway. She started the car and shortly after, we were safely on the road. “Okay, but hey, did Adam ask you about the party? You’re coming, right?” “I don’t know,  Michelle. I probably don’t know anybody who’s there”, I leaned back and closed my eyes. I really just want to go home and watch a movie in bed or something. “Come on El, you know me and Adam,” Yay, Adam… “And I heard that you met Sophia Morris. She’s super nice, why not go with her then?” she proposed and I knew this was a lost battle. I opened my eyes again and sighed loudly. “Fine, I’ll ask her”, I told her and fished my phone out of my pocket to send Sophia a text. “Nice. Plus, what better place to make friends than a party?”, she added with a smile, her eyes not leaving the road. I suppose she’s right about that…   I just smiled back at her as she put on the radio and started singing along with a random song. She honestly sounded like a screeching cat but obviously, she couldn’t care less. I really admired that about her. But since it was just us in the car anyway, I started singing along, sounding even worse if that was even possible.   After a good 20 minutes of me and Michelle just completely destroying our vocal cords, we pulled up my driveway. “So, see you tonight?, Michelle asked with a raised brow and I sighed. She’s really not going to leave me be, is she? “Probably…”, I answered and got out the car, swinging my bag over my shoulder “Thanks for the ride, by the way” “No problem, cousin. See you later”, she waved at me and drove off as I made my way into my house. Tiredly plopping down on the couch, I checked my phone and noticed a text from Sophia.   -Hey Ella, of course we can go together. Fancy getting ready with me? I’ll bring wine? :) - Sophia   Maybe this can be a good thing. Plus, I promised myself I was going to start over and I won’t allow myself to get back from that. Plus, plus, who am I to say no to wine? -Sure, that would be nice. We can order pizza if you want? :) I’ll text you my address -   I responded and made my way to the kitchen for a little snack.   -Great, I’ll be there in 30 – Sophia   I smiled and put my phone down on the counter as I reached for a granola bar on the table. I’m really lucky that I met her today. I realised quickly that she’s quite popular but she doesn’t act like her reputation is the only thing that matters to her. She’s just one big bundle of joy and positivity and yes, I’m able to say that after just one day of knowing her.   Taking a bite from the bar and searching for a pizza place online, I suddenly got distracted by some yelling coming from outside. Walking back to the living room, I looked through the open window to see a woman getting out of the car on the neighbors driveway with her arm full of grocery bags. “ETHAN, get your ass out here and help me!” she yelled as her arms almost gave up and just when she was about to drop the bags, a boy ran up to her, taking them from her. “Sorry mom, I didn’t hear you”, I just managed to hear him say. “It’s okay sweetheart, just help me get them inside”, the woman answered, making her way up the driveway. As the boy turned around to follow his mother, I felt as if I’d seen him before. He didn’t look that muscular but he was tall, a lot taller than me. Brown hair with some reading glasses in it and I was pretty sure, for how good I could see them, dark grey eyes. I’m pretty sure he goes to my school, probably saw him walking around in the hallway or something. He looks hella cute though… As if he had heard me, he turned his head towards the window and made eye contact with me. That’s when I realised that I did say that last part out loud and I stared at him with wide eyes as he walked up to his house with a smug smile.   I honestly have the worst luck and I guess I just have got to accept it. I quickly closed the window, followed by the curtains of the living room and let out a big breath. My cheeks felt like they were glowing and I wanted the earth to swallow me whole. Why am like this? I turned around to go back to the kitchen but stopped as knocking sounded from the hallway. Not even a second after I opened the door, an overly excited Sophia entered “You ready to get crazy?” she yelled excitingly, holding up two bottles of wine. Oh boy, what have I gotten myself into…
