Kayla POV
I was eating an apple given to me by Alice. There is no desire to eat. My stomach is churning, but not because I'm hungry and eating is making it worse.
My body is being crushed by worry, fear, and anxiety. It's difficult for me to breathe, let alone think. I'm exhausted. I'm emotionally spent.
I tried to hold on to the hope that Leon was still alive, that he had somehow survived the invasion.
I know it's difficult, but normally a Pack or Kingdom is only taken over by enemies when its King dies in combat or is challenged by another Alpha who wants to be King.
To be crowned King, you must be an Alpha of pure blood or an heir of the royal family. The latter is the most basic. At least, that's what the ancient werewolves taught their descendants. As a result, not everyone fits the profile of King and is accepted by the Werewolf Community. This alone raises a slew of concerns for me.
Leon is an only child with no siblings or close relatives. The Great m******e claimed the lives of the majority of Leon's family as they attempted to protect the realm from other supernatural beings. Those who remain alive are members of the Council of Werewolves and thus cannot rule.
I have no idea who our adversary is or where he came from.
One thing is certain: it cannot be any ordinary foe. It must be someone extremely powerful, capable of mobilizing sufficient troops to dethrone Leon and subjugate his Kingdom. A pure and powerful Alpha bloodline.
If enemies occupied the Kingdom, Leon would lose his throne. This implies that he was either challenged in a tournament for the crown or that he lost the war. In either case, the result is the same. He's most likely no longer alive.
I know all of this, but my heart refuses to accept it and clings to the hope that his heart will continue to beat.
My last remembrances of us together occurred in the bedroom, and it is the last memory I have had before everything that happened. Leon was hungrier than usual, and the night was filled with intensity and passion. A stark contrast to the scene I saw when I awoke.
There are some things I don't understand, and others don't seem to suit all this. If the werewolf warriors we saw were enemies, how come they were all killed? Who murdered them?
And in the room next to us, my sweet Natalie, the person who raised me and loved me like a mother, was murdered. Natalie was the only one who was dead in that room. Her wound was undoubtedly caused by a werewolf.
The dismembered warriors in the living room and on the street lacked organs or had deadly wounds compatible with werewolf bites, indicating that they were werewolves rather than other beings.
But, if someone went to Natalie's house and killed the warriors, why didn't he save or kill us? Why didn't he help us? This puzzle is strange, and I can't seem to put it together. In fact, I'm unable to join in any piece of it.
Then another girl appeared, claiming to have been in the same room as me. I'd never met her before, but I feel a strange connection to her.
Could Alice have killed Natalie and the warriors? It made perfect sense; she murdered everyone, including Natalie, and now she pretends to be a victim like me. But is she really strong enough to kill them all? And for what?
And... There's this bond between us, this trust... I may be mistaken in thinking of her as such a b*tch... she is kind and friendly.
How dare you? A female voice in my head asks, roaring. How dare you imprison me? Asked me loudly again.
I started to feel a wolf trying to take over my body. I fight with all my strength. The wolf has a female voice, and he's trying to occupy all of my consciousness, pushing me away.
I expend all of my energy repelling her, but it's becoming increasingly difficult. Because my feelings are in chaos mode, my fear is assisting the enemy lodged in my consciousness, and I'm losing her.
I feel my body trying to shift into a wolf, an unknown wolf.
I must concentrate solely on my awareness. I pictured, in my mind, a hand pushing the wolf towards a door, which I then opened. I wanted to push her and close the door.
I cling to my deepest and calmest emotions at this moment, and little by little I manage to push her away.
"Stop, Mia, I'm here. She is not to blame, and she did nothing to me ". Alice yelled at me, and the wolf relents, allowing me to use my full power in human form.
"Alice, I'm bonded to another wolf," I screamed in despair and shock, realizing what had happened.
"Oh no, we're screwed; our wolves have been switched; you have Mia, and I have yours." I tried to understand what Alice was saying. Alice was in complete shock, shaking and sobbing.
I stood there looking bewildered at her.
My mind started to join the words, like a slow-motion movie, and I finally understood what Alice just said.
Is Alice your human form? I asked in disbelief.
Yes, she is. Who are you?
Kayla. I introduced myself by saying only my name. I can´t speak right now. I can´t breathe.
How am I bonded to you now? I want Alice. I want to talk to Alice, please. Let me out... She commands me. The word "please" she used is so useless in that tone. She is an angry wolf, and I could not let her transform. At least we don't have to figure out what's happening.
Alice Wolf, I want to talk to her too and try to understand better what is happening. We should all talk about this. I said that because I couldn't give her control. The truth is, we all need to talk. How I miss my sweet Thea.
My name is Mia. Did you get it? She snorted at me. What a b***h this wolf is, I thought to myself, blocking my thoughts in a way she can't access.
