My phone vibrated, causing me to jump. I grabbed it and saw it was Vanessa. I tried to push all of the fear out of my voice before answering. “Hey,” I said. “What’s going on?” “Not much, just wanted to call and see how you were doing.” She said. No one had done that for a while. Nowadays people only wanted something from me or to invite me to a party. “Honestly I’m terrible,” I forced a laugh. “Are you busy?” “No, actually.
