Albert Murren, my very own right-hand man, the person whom I call my secondary “grandfather”, the Grand Musical Director (GMD)of the HOH, just had the three words “Elynnor”, “Dahlia” and “Tullerin”, come out of his mouth. Three words that I despise with every fibre of being. Three words that belong to a person whom in just a few months after meeting with me, rose to such fame in West Germany with her friends on her own that even the older members of my orchestra and staff crew are talking about her. The OLDER people. People whom I would generally expect to appreciate older structures more than fresh, young, startup musicians with newer elements attached to them.
It is one thing to talk about the latest trends and happenings mentioned in the media. But to have my own people calling Elynnor “the next best thing” or “my new favourite artist” IRKS me to no end.
“Artist”. Huh. It is taking me everything that I’ve got to not REALLY show this country bumpkin what true art is. As much as I hate to admit it, I am getting pretty envious of her. Her orchestra is gaining popularity and growing in size with applications from new fans and musicians (mostly young people), while my business and fan base remain lukewarm and lacking in the passionate fire Erich and I once felt and witnessed in our own home. I can see myself losing to her - a woman 25 years younger than I am (!!!) with less experience than I have, if I do not catch up quickly. I think I shall hire someone to help me - someone, or several people - to help me save my business and bring the Hubert name back into the spotlight.
Elynnor may be an untrue Classical performer, but I am not about to throw dirt onto the Hubert name by bringing her down in any indecent, unprofessional way. I shall mind my own business and leave her alone, and find ways to bring myself up, up, and up, WAY higher than that blondie will ever reach, the classy way.
Maria.
