“Did you seriously just go into battle after giving birth?” Mikayla asks. “Who are you?”
I laugh and run my fingers over the hair framing her face.
“I’m the Blessed Queen, Angel. Starfire, my wolf, was Selene’s wolf when she walked this Earth. I have powers one could only dream of,” I say sweetly.
I go into the ritual room and bee line for my newborn pups. I use my telekinesis to lift the cradle and step through the portal back home.
-------------------
“Oh my sweet girl. I didn’t think you’d be up on your feet yet,” My mom says running to greet me.
“Where are the boys?” I ask.
“Henry and Isaac were playing video games with Daddy last time I checked. The littles followed Gamma Ethan out to the training field. I just got everything ready in the nursery,” mom says looking down into the cradle. “Oh look at them sleeping around her.”
At the mention of my daughter all three of my boys' eyes pop open and a blue shield appears around the cradle. My mom is pushed away and I am the only one inside with the babies.
“Midnight, what the hell?” Mom says.
“It wasn’t me. My shield is purple,” I say.
“Well you’re the only one that can conjure it,” she says.
“I said it wasn’t me. I’m not the only tribrid now am I?” I ask.
“But she’s only a baby, and she’s sleeping,” mom says.
I pick up my daughter and coo her.
“It’s ok baby girl, mama is here. No one can hurt you my baby,” I sing to her.
The boys coo and the shield drops. I look at my boys and gasp. Their eyes are glowing blue.
“Boys. You don’t have to shield her from her family. Nana will always protect you,” I tell them. I motion for my mom to come closer. My mom comes over and lets the boys take in her scent. They give these tiny smiles and she picks one up.
“Have you named them?” She asks.
“Well that's something else I wanted to tell you. The boys were being stubborn and didn’t want to come out. Selene appeared and delivered each baby. She named them and gave each of them a blessing. I’m glad she was there. Sukie had to cut me open like a Thanksgiving turkey because these little butter balls were huge,” I tell her.
“He feels big. He has to be at least nine pounds,” She says, snuggling his cheek.
“That’s the oldest, Lucian,” I say, laying Olexa down between her brothers. I touch the one to her left, “This is Marco,” and to her right, “This is Nikolai,” and my little girl, “and as Selene said. Our defender of mankind, Olexa.”
“Well that’s a big name to live up to,” she says.
“I know. But I’m going to be right by her side. We all will,” I tell my mom. “I just want to spend as much time with them as I can before I have to go search for Aro...I mean Alaric. God, that's going to be hard getting used to.”
“You’ll find him sweetie, and your family will be whole once again,” she says. She sets Lucian back with his siblings and we both just stare at them.
“I know mom. I guess I’m just anxious, and maybe a little nervous. What if he sees me and those feelings don’t come back. Will he reject me? What about Boston and Connor. They’ll lose him all over again. I can’t make them grieve her twice,” I tell her.
“I can’t tell you what is going to happen. Foresight is your gift, not mine. All I know is that everything is going to work out as it was supposed to,” she says, giving me a hug.
“Even I didn’t see this one coming,” I laugh.
“Honey, I think it’s time to feed the little ones,” she says.
“What makes you say that?” I ask.
“Because you’re leaking breastmilk on me,” she chuckles.
I let her go quickly, “Sorry.”
“It’s ok sweetie. Let’s get these little guys settled upstairs and you can whip those bad boys out and feed them,” she smiles.
“God I feel like a dairy cow. Can you imagine when I have to feed seven babies? Boobs bigger than Shawn’s fat head!” I laugh
“Hey, I have a perfectly normal sized head thank you,” Shawn says coming up behind me.
“Mhmm. I’ve talked to your mama. She said you basically broke her in half the day you were born. That’s how I felt to push these big ass babies out today. Look at these boys. They’re bigger than all the others were when they were born,” I say.
“That wasn’t my fault. You were obsessed with every greasy food on the planet,” he says.
“Are you saying I was fat?” I ask.
His face pales when he realizes what he just said.
“No baby I swear I didn’t mean it that way,” he says.
My mom laughs loudly.
“What?” I ask.
“Nothing. Shawn used to be the coolest guy around. Women falling at his feet. Suave. You have him wrapped so tightly around your finger that he nearly strokes out thinking he insulted you. Honey, I love you, but you ate everything in sight and were as big as a house,” mom says.
“Rude!” I say.
“Hey babe,” Andrei says coming into the nursery. He freezes when he takes in the atmosphere. He looks at Shawn, “What did you do?”
“Nothing!” Shawn says.
“He called me fat and mom agreed with him,” I say.
“You i***t,” Andrei says. Using his speed he appears in front of Shawn and punches him in the face. “Do you ever know when to shut up? You know what that does to her. Go wait in our room.”
“But,” Shawn says.
“Now!” Andrei growls. He is the most protective of me.
Shawn passes by me and before he can say anything my mom is pushing him out the door.
“I’m sorry baby,” Andrei says.
“Do you think he still loves me?” I begin to cry. My body may be healed from the pregnancy, but my hormones are still all out of whack.
“Of course he loves you,” Andrei says.
“What if he’s only staying with me because I made him a King. Every time I’m pregnant he always comments on my weight and after a certain point he only wants to be intimate with you. That’s why I decided not to have any more babies, not because I didn’t want them. What if he decides to leave me for someone else?” I ask him.
“He won't. You know he has no filter. He says the first thing that pops into his head. We both love you so much. You are the most gorgeous woman on the planet. Even more so when you’re carrying our children. I can assure you that the only reason Shawn and I are more intimate during those times is because he’s afraid of hurting you so he is rougher on me. You know how much I enjoy being dominated by him. Even then when he does dominate me I feel like he tries to make up for Aro not being around. We all miss her. And I promise you that I will support you whether you want a hundred babies or the ones we have. I know Selene said you should have little dragon babies with Alaric but if you don’t want to then you don’t have to. We will fight the Knights of Hell with our armies and allies and kick some demon ass. It’s your body and your choice how many babies you bring into this world,” Andrei says, holding me close to him.
“You always know how to calm me down,” I say. I’ve suffered from postpartum depression the last few pregnancies. Andrei has always been my rock.
“Think it’s time to start seeing Dr. Vargas again?” Andrei asks. I nod against his chest. Dr. Vargas is my therapist. She helped me get past my postpartum after my last two pregnancies. She’s a miracle worker.
“We’ll stop by her office tomorrow when we get the pups checked out. Let’s just get them fed and we’ll all get some rest,” he says.
Andrei warms up some breastmilk from the fridge and I pull out both of my aching breasts. Andrei hands me Olexa and she latches on immediately. He then picks up Lucian and helps him latch onto my other breast. He picks up Marco and begins feeding him. Olexa doesn’t eat much but she seems satisfied. I burp her while Lucian continues to feed. I hover the cradle over to me so I can place her back inside and pick up Nikolai. He latches onto my breast and begins feeding. Yup, just like a dairy cow.
