My mother's face grew serious as she looked at me, and I could tell that this was a question she had been expecting. “Sofia,” she began slowly, “there's something you need to know about Juan's lineage.”
I sat up, my interest piqued. “What do you mean?”
“Juan's lineage has a medical condition that has to do with the fermentation of their blood.”
I stared at her in disbelief. “What do you mean?”
“It’s a rare genetic disorder that affects only a few families in our community,” she explained. “It causes the blood to ferment in the body, which can lead to serious health complications.”
I was taken aback by this revelation. “Why didn't anyone tell me this before?”
“Your father and I wanted to protect you from the burden of this knowledge until we thought you were ready,” she said. “But now that you're going to be the Alpha, it's important that you understand the risks involved.”
I sat there, processing everything she had just told me. “So, if Juan continues his role as Alpha, especially at a time like this, where there’s a rival pack on our neck, it could be dangerous for him?”
“Yes,” my mother confirmed. “The stress and responsibility of being Alpha could trigger the fermentation process and lead to serious health complications. That's why your father and I have always known that you were the best choice for our family.”
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I had never considered the possibility that becoming the Alpha was a matter of life and death. But now, as the weight of this knowledge settled on my shoulders, I knew that I had to do everything in my power to protect my family's legacy and keep them safe. As I lay back on my bed, I realized that being the Alpha was more than just a position of power. It was a responsibility that required sacrifice and the willingness to put the needs of the pack before my own desires. And with that realization, I knew that I was ready to take on the role and lead my pack to a better future.
Just as I was playing with my phone to ask my mother more questions about the condition, my mother’s voice interrupted me by calling out, “Sofia, dinner is ready.”
I looked down at my phone, realizing that I had been lost in thought for much longer than I had anticipated. “Okay, coming,” I called back.
As I made my way down the stairs, the scent of my mother's cooking filled the air, making my mouth water. She had always been an excellent cook, and I knew that whatever was waiting for me at the dinner table would be delicious.
As I sat down at the table, my parents exchanged a knowing look, and I knew that they were silently communicating about the conversation we had just had. But for now, they both remained quiet, allowing me to enjoy my meal in peace.
As I ate, I couldn't help but think about everything that had been revealed to me today. I knew that my life was about to change in ways I couldn't even begin to imagine. But as long as I had my family by my side, I knew that I could handle anything that came my way.
As I finished my meal, my mother cleared the table and started to wash the dishes. I offered to help, but she shooed me away, telling me to relax and enjoy my evening. And so, I did, taking some time to unwind before heading to bed, knowing that tomorrow would be a new day, full of new challenges and adventures.
The next morning, I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day. I got out of bed, stretched my arms and legs, and made my way to the bathroom. After brushing my teeth, I stripped down and stepped into the shower, letting the hot water wash away any lingering grogginess.
As I dried off and got dressed, I couldn't help but feel a sense of confidence wash over me. After all, I had just discovered that I was a werewolf, and that knowledge gave me a newfound sense of power and control.
I made my way to school, ignoring the mean eyes and whispers that followed me. I knew that they were just jealous of my newfound confidence, and I refused to let them bring me down.
As I walked into my classroom, I noticed a new face sitting in the back row. He was tall, with short wavy brown hair and striking amber eyes. My heart skipped a beat as our eyes met, and I felt a strange pull towards him.
Victoria Torres, the school counsellor, interrupted my thoughts as she introduced the new student to the class. "Class, this is Mateo, our new student. Please make him feel welcome."
I couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity about his identity. Could he also be a werewolf like me?
I sat down at my desk and tried to focus on the lesson. I couldn't shake the feeling of Mateo's eyes on me. It was as if he knew my secret, and that thought sent shivers down my spine.
As the class went on, I found myself stealing glances at Mateo, trying to figure him out. There was something mysterious about him, something that drew me in and made me want to know more.
Just as I was about to muster up the courage to talk to him during lunch break, the bell rang, signaling the end of class. I gathered my things and made my way out of the room, hoping to catch a glimpse of Mateo before he disappeared.
But as I stepped out into the hallway, I was met with chaos and confusion. Students were running and screaming, and I could hear the sound of breaking glass and metal.
"What's going on?" I asked a passing student, but they just shoved me aside and kept running.
I felt a sudden surge of panic as I realized that something was seriously wrong. And then, I saw him. Mateo was standing at the end of the hallway, his amber eyes fixed on me. And then, he disappeared around the corner, leaving me with more questions than answers.
I knew that I had to follow him, to find out what was happening and why he seemed to be connected to it. With my heart pounding in my chest, I took off after him, determined to get to the bottom of this mystery.
