18 XAVIER The five-minute drive to Karissa’s apartment felt like it was three hours long. I just wanted her in my arms, but there were stop signs and people crossing the street and no parking spaces. I was about to crawl out of my skin. We finally managed to get there and park, and we met in front of her building. I took her hand, and we hurried up the stairs.
