Kade’s POV
My mind was reeling. I had just received word from my personal assistant and best friend, Tanner, that Stella had left the country for business and will be not be returning. He also told me she called off the wedding and sent me my ring back. I tried calling her time and time again but her phone was disconnected and she also blocked me on all social media. I was losing my mind when tanners voice finally snapped me back into reality
“Maybe it’s for the best man” he said
I glared at him with daggers my tone cold “FOR THE BEST?” I yelled “ how could my fiancé leaving me be for the best? I loved her, I gave her everything and she just left!” I said with rage “to make matters worse if I don’t marry someone within the next month my grandfather will not give me the company!”
I fell back in my chair and rubbed my temples feeling a headache coming on. I was hurt and angry I didn’t understand what I did to make her leave but I couldn’t think about that now. Right now I needed to find someone who could take her place in the wedding we were planning and I had less than four weeks to do so.
“Kade” tanner said quietly trying not to anger me more “I also wanted to let you know your grandfather called and asked for you presence tonight at dinner”
“ of course he would call me for dinner tonight if all nights”. I said coldly
“What would you like me to tell him Kade?” Tanner asked trying to keep his tone calm and quiet as to not infuriate me further.
“Tell him I will be there” I say not even bothering to look at Tanner as I retire to my room to get ready for the evening.
After a quick shower I got dressed and left. It was 6:30 and I had a half hour drive to grandfather’s estate. During the drive I thought about Stella leaving and how I was going to explain my situation to grandfather. I needed more time to figure things out I needed to find Stella and figure out why she left. My mind was filled with thought as I pulled up to gates of grandfather’s estate. I parked and slowly made my way to the door less than excited about what the evening was to hold. Before I could knock a maid opened the door and escorted me in. She told me grandfather was waiting in the dining hall for me and to go ahead in.
“Grandfather” I greeted him with a hug and looked at the old man who becoming more frail and thin as the days passed “how have you been?” I asked him
“Sit my boy” he said before continuing “I have been well, feeling better lately. And you?”
“That’s good, grandfather” I said even though I knew he was lying “I have been well too” I added, also lying.
Grandfather furrowed his brows I could tell he was thinking about something before he spoke gently “really? I heard you’re going through I difficult time right now. I was informed your fiancé left yesterday and called off the wedding. That is why my invited you here my boy” he said “ I wanted to make sure you were doing alright”
I sighed “yes grandfather she did but I do not wish to discuss that right now” I said with hurt in my voice
Grandfather raised a brow at me and said “well maybe it’s for the best, you can find a new bride and continue with the wedding plan and forget that foul woman”
I felt anger rise inside me as he talked down on the woman I loved. I knew grandfather never liked Stella but I loved her and he was wrong about her. She was not after my money as grandfather thought, we were in love and I knew something had to be wrong. And I was going to find out why she left me. My mind was still deep in thought when grandfathers voice snapped me out of it.
“There’s my girl!” He exclaimed as I looked up to see his nurse, Chloe, walking in the room. My eyes widened at the site of her she was wearing a gorgeous red dress that hugged her curves perfectly, her legs looked stunning and she looked beautiful. I was not used to seeing that side of Chloe she was always in scrubs with her hair pulled up any time I saw her.
I quickly snapped myself out of my stare and brought my gaze back to grandfather “what is she doing here” I said my tone low and cold. Grandfather just smiled at me and hugged Chloe gesturing for her to sit.
