The Nurse

Chapter 5

Chloe’s POV

It was around 2 am when I woke up to the sound of something breaking. I quickly ran over to grandfathers room to find him lying on the floor clutching his chest and struggling to breath. I yelled for one of the maids to call for an ambulance while I checked his vitals and assessed him I knew he was having a heart attack. Before the ambulance could get there grandfather stopped breathing, I yelled to a maid to get my medical bag and I started CPR, I managed to get my defibrillator on him and get his rhythm back before the ambulance arrived. Once the paramedics checked him out they loaded him in the ambulance and took him to the hospital. I tried calling Kade to let him know what was going on but his phone was off, so I decided to go to his house and get him myself.

I drove as fast as I could worried sick about grandfather and wanting to be at the hospital with him. He may not have been my actual grandfather but he was the closest thing I had to family since the accident that claimed the lives of my parents and brother. As I arrived at Kade’s house I ran to the door knocking as loud as I could to ensure he would hear me in his large house, that I would classify as a mansion.

The next thing I knew Kade was standing in doorway wearing nothing but boxers, I couldn’t peeling my eyes off of him my mind went blank on why I was even there. I couldn’t help but stare at his chiseled abs looking at each and every inch of muscle as I made my way up to his hair that was messy from sleep but still looking as amazing as when he had it styled. Suddenly I was snapped out of it by Kade clearing his throat to get my attention. My mind still buzzing from everything happening and seeing Kade like that had me stuttering over my words. I could see the anger kade has with me and after taking a step back and collecting myself I finally managed to tell him grandfather was in the hospital he had a heart attack.

I felt tears in my eyes trying hard to control them and not let them fall. Kade took off back into the house and appeared in back outside in less than 5 minutes ready to follow me to the hospital. Once we arrived we both parked and rushed inside. Kade following me and I was familiar with this hospital since I used to work there. We rush to the ICU where we found grandfather sitting up in his bed doing much better than he was when he left the house in the ambulance. He had oxygen on and still looked very pail and fragile.

I went over to grandfather and wrapped him in a hug whispering in his ear “don’t do that to me ever again”

He chuckled slightly and gently replied “I’ll try not dear I’m sorry for worrying you” as he patted my hand

Kade followed suit also hugging his grandfather and saying “I’m glad to see you’re okay grandfather”

We all sat in silence for a while. The doctor then came in and checked on grandfather again and informed us grandfather would be needing to go to surgery for a heart catch in the morning. Before exiting the doctor looked at me and told me I saved grandfathers life.

I knew it was meant to be a compliment but I just shrugged and said “that is my job.”

Grandfather chuckled slightly before turning to me and saying “and you’re pretty damn good at too.” Which got a light laugh out of everyone in the room.

We were all the left in silence again before grandfather spoke up “so kids I think we will have to move this wedding up, I was thinking next Saturday”

Kade and I looked at each other then back at grandfather clearly both shocked

“But grandfather you said 3 weeks” Kade said trying to stay calm but his voice was clearly laced with irritation.

“I did, but that before all of this happened my boy” grandfather said to Kade “I need to make sure my company is taken care of before I go and to do that I need you to be married and officially be appointed the CEO position”

“Grandfather” Kade said with a sigh “ how am I to marry the woman who just saved you and take her away from you. You need her there living with you to make sure you stay well” Kade replied trying to get out of this arrangement any way he can.

“Ah yes, I do need my girl close that is for sure. That is why I thinking after you wed, you guys can both move to the estate and live there so Chloe can still help me out and I can keep an eye on you while you run the company” grandfather said calmly with slight smile as if he has thought of everything already.

“Fine” Kade said with obvious distain in his voice “we will be wed next Saturday and we will move to the estate that day”

My eyes widened in shock at the agreement being made. It involved me, my life, yet I wasn’t asked if I was okay with any of it. Sure, marrying Kade White would be a dream come true, if he didn’t despise my very existence. I felt someone grab my hand and I looked up at grandfather with saddened eyes. Grandfather patted my hand almost as to reassure me everything would work out.

“It will all be okay my dear, I promise” he said his voice low and reassuring.

Kade had left that evening and I decided to stay the night with grandfather at the hospital so I could be there for him after his surgery in the morning.

The next morning when Kade came back grandfather was already in surgery. He sat down next to me in the waiting area silence filling the room.

“I don’t want any of this” Kade finally said breaking the silence “you are not the person I was to marry, but if it makes grandfather happy and get me my title of CEO I’m willing to make it work” Kade looked at me his eyes cold and emotionless

“We should set some ground rules then” I suggested “we will make it seem like we are in love for the sake of grandfather and also to the public. But behind clothes doors we don’t even have to associate with one another.”

“Agreed” Kade said and we sat in silence until the doctor came and told us grandfathers surgery went well and we could go see him.
