The brothers rested while they were thinking about everything their grandma had told them. It was quite unbelievable but just as unbelievable was everything their grandma had done so far. The concept of magic, other races/species, and an underworld was overwhelming.
“Say brother, do you think we will have talent in magic? Why do you think our parents never mentioned anything?”
“Mmm... I don’t know Teo. What I do know is that they must have had their reasons. What do you think? I know you are surely very interested in learning are you not?”
“Definitely! This is precisely what I’ve dreamed about all my life. I try to think of the reasons why mom and dad didn’t say anything but I can’t find any. I guess when we know more we might find out about it. Do you think it matters or could affect us?”
“I should matter, if not why wouldn’t they say anything? We never saw them doing anything magical either or heard them talking about these fantastical things. I can’t help but think that they didn’t want us to get involved in this fight.”
“But brother, don’t you want to fight against evil? Isn’t it right to fight for good and light?”
“I guess you're right Teo but I have this feeling that we might get involved in something to big for us if we keep going down this path.”
“If we stay together brother we’ll be able to face anything this life has in store for us! I know you’ll protect me and I’ll definitely protect you too!”
Mosi smiled and looked at his younger brother lovingly. “Let’s wait and hear everything our grandma has to tell us, but I do agree with you that if we stay together like our parents taught us everything will be fine in the end.”
“Come kids! Let’s eat!” Elisa’s voice came ringing from the kitchen.
They ate in silence while still ruminating about all this new information that they had never heard about. After eating they moved back to the living room and sat down to rest and digest their meal while they kept talking.
“So kids, do you have any questions or doubts so far? What do you think of everything I’ve told you?”
“Well grandma, I can’t ignore the feeling I have that our parents must have had their reasons for not telling us anything about this. Why would that be?” Mosi decided it was best to come forward with his thoughts and feelings and see what his grandma could tell him.
Elisa was expecting this question, she wasn’t surprised they asked about it.
“I can’t say I fully understood your parents or the reasons they had for not telling you about this or teaching you what they knew. However I’m sure your parents wouldn’t have wanted you to be exposed to dangerous situations. Fighting against evil in this world that’s dominated by darkness is very dangerous.”
“So you are saying that if we join this war we will be in danger no matter what we do?”
“All wars and fights are dangerous. There is nothing new about that. The thing is that not everyone can fight this war. The responsibility to fight for this world resides mainly in the sects that hold the methods to cultivate and go beyond normal humans. It’s a matter of bloodlines you see?”
Teo had been silent all this time watching his brother and grandma speak. But he couldn’t hold back any longer.
“Grandma how about you keep on telling us what you had in mind? I’m sure our doubts will be quelled when you finish your story.”
“Well said Teo. Let me continue then. We had just finished talking about some general things about this world but there are still lots of pieces of the puzzle missing. The other main actor in this story are the sects that represent light and fight against darkness.”
Elisa looked at them and decided it was best to tell them as much as she could. Even if they decided to shirk away from this war and not become her disciples they were entitled to know.
“Remember I said we humans have to produce light?”
“Yes!” Both brothers answered in unison.
“Well, that was the task that was entrusted to us, humans, when we came into being in this world. It’s very complicated to explain in detail so I’ll give you an overview of this for the time being. Through different cultivation methods, all related to the sun, breathing exercises and the intonation of mantras we humans are able to produce light. This light isn’t visible in our plane. Meaning that we can’t see it with ease but that doesn’t mean that it’s not there.”
“So you are saying that we are able to produce light like a lightbulb or a star just that we can’t see it?”
“Yes precisely that’s what I’m saying. All sects have their own secret methods to cultivate, generate light and improve their genetic condition.”
“You mentioned the genetic part before, what does that have to do with anything?”
“Well... I guess there’s nothing wrong in telling you this story even if it is a summary it will help you understand. Humans are no longer pure humans the way we were when we came into being. Thousands upon thousands of years ago the forces of evil managed to make the first step towards total domination. They modified our DNA and introduced genetic strands of other creatures. Reptilian creatures to be more precise. That’s the reason why we have a reptilian brain and also the reason why fetuses have a tail at some point during their growth inside their mother’s bellies.”
“So that’s the reason for the tail! I’ve always wondered about that.” Teo blurted out after Elisa paused to take a breath.
Elisa looked at Teo with a surprised look. “You are very smart you know that?”
“Yes” Teo answered smugly “I’ve been told that since I have memory.”
“Well in order to be able to produce light efficiently we need to cleanse our DNA. The problem is that even if you manage to achieve the purest DNA possible, your descendants won’t inherit it. They’ll have to do the work all over again by themselves. This is something that’s impossible to explain. All sects have come to the conclusion that it must be the residue of some very powerful magic or maybe a contract of some kind.”
“So you are saying grandma that even though we are humans; we aren’t pure humans? We were affected or changed at some point in history and now we need to go back to being pure before we can produce light which was our original goal?” Mosi asked after carefully considering his grandma’s words.
“Yes and no. Everyone can produce light even if they don’t have a pure human bloodline. The bloodline we have is already enough to do it. The thing is efficiency. The purer the bloodline the more light we produce and with less effort as well. Understood so far?”
“Yes, I think I understand.”
“And you Teo? Do you understand?”
“Yes grandma! Now quick! Teach us some magic!”
Elisa laughed merrily. “Wait up child, be patient. The path to magic is a long one and there are many steps that you need to do before you get there.”
“How long? When do you think I’ll be able to do magic?”
“It depends on how much effort and dedication you have. The harder you work the quicker it will be.”
“So you will teach us how to do magic then?”
“Yes certainly. I’ll teach you everything I know as long as you’re willing to learn it.”
“So when can we start? Can we start today? Right now?”
Elisa laughed once more while thinking that if all young ones had the drive that Teo had then evil would never have become as powerful and domineering as they were today. “Not yet, but soon! Be patient and let me finish putting you two in context.”
“Very well grandma! I’ll definitely become the best disciple and make you proud!” Teo looked expectantly and Elisa while he waited for her to get on with the story.
“So, as I was saying every sect has different methods to cultivate. Cultivating is, basically, purifying the DNA in the body and allowing more strands to appear thus truly waking up the chakras associated to those strands.”
Elisa drank some water slowly giving them time to absorb what she just said and ask questions if they had any before going on.
