Chapter Ten
It looked like any other fancy apartment building on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Freshly groomed shrubs along the archway, sparkling with white lights, marble floors throughout the lobby, crystal chandeliers hanging. Although soft music was playing throughout, all I could hear was the thumping of my heels against the floor.
“May I help you?” the doorman greeted me.
“I’m Calista Reed. I’m here to see Joshua Knight,” I said politely.
“Ah, yes, Ms. Reed, he’s been expecting you. I’m Oscar. Follow me.” He led me into the elevator and brought me to the 32nd floor. As the door slid open, he held it for me as I got out and motioned his head to the last unit. “Mr. Knight is down the hall. Enjoy your evening.”
