Thirty-One Back at the bed and breakfast, Jessica, April and Sally were sitting and playing gin rummy in the dining room. It was one way to pass the time. April was losing, and Jessica was winning. April couldn’t keep her mind on the game and often threw away cards she needed. She kept looking at the clock and waiting for Joshua. She was worried, really worried. She had her phone sitting on the table near her in case Joshua called. She was afraid to try calling him in case it would distract him at the wrong moment. “April, it’s your turn,” Jessica said, touching April’s arm lightly. April jumped and looked over. “Sorry.
