chapter 1: Mia's pov
“Ohhh… not again.” It was on a sunny morning in Brighton high school and our final week in school. I had boring classes that made my head ache. But welll… it didn't make me feel so bad because I knew it's almost time for break and various activities where people show their talents.
I was staring and waiting patiently for the clock to tick, and yeahh… it's exactly 11:30am. Time for freedom.
I went out so excited, watching different groups do different things all at the same time. Some were singing, running, and then I saw a group of 4 girls making some dance moves, stunts, jumps, splits.
They twisted their waists in a circular motion while facing down, rising up, their pretty hair flew past their face and they all looked in the same direction, all in unison.
OMG!! My eyes shone and I opened my mouth in shock… I mean surprise.
Woa! Woa!! Woa!!! I got caught up by their moves. I have always wanted to be a dancer.
I've had the dream of being a contemporary dancer, a professional for that matter after I watched ‘Suspiria’ directed by Luca Guadagnino.
I stood close to a pillar for a while, lost, thinking how to approach them. “If you don't go now, you might not have the chance to some other time,” I heard a voice in my head.
“Okay let's do this.” I summoned the courage and walked to them. Though I was tensed but welll… they are my juniors so I have to be a senior.
“Heyy… hi… I… I was standing over there, feeding my eyes when I saw you girls do some crazy moves and… I… fell in love with you… sorry, your moves.”
They all laughed at me. “Okay...” One said.
I adjusted my body slightly, “Can you teach me please??? I would love to be part of your dance group.” I was so out of charge of my own self.
“Sure.” another said. They explained to me in detail, their time and days of rehearsals, and their training venue, but something caught my attention. The way they talked about Coach Leo like he was a god.
“Coach Leo.” I whispered to myself. I would love to be coached by him. Why not? They were all crazy about him.
“Thanks.” I said leaving them and smiling sheepishly when I bumped into my best friend.
“Hey, hey, hey… why are you smiling like Avan already asked you to be his girlfriend.” She stopped me from taking another step.
“Wait, what? Avan?? Hell no. And why will you even think of something like that Olivia.”
Olivia was still confused by my look. I mean, she didn't understand where the excitement was coming from.
“Okay… can you tell me the reason behind these silly smile of yours?” She asked.
“Yes I will. Okay. Do you remember when I told you of dreaming to be a contemporary dancer with some artistic moves?”
“Ugghh… yes, yeah. So…” she was still waiting for me to speak up.
“So… during sports time, I saw some group of girls doing exactly the same thing I've always dreamt of.”
“Okay.” Olivia looked at me like I was still dreaming.
“I summoned courage and had a chat with them, and girlll I will be joining their dance crew as from tomorrow.” I shouted without even knowing I did.
“Wait, are you being serious?” Olivia shone her eyes in shock. She has always wanted my dreams to come through.
“Yes,” I was so happy. We smiled at each other.
It was already time for closing, we both walked down home, had a series of discussions, laughed and separated for that day.
At home, I quickly showered, and ran to meet my mom. “Hey mom.”
“Hey darling, how was your day?”
“My day was great,” I responded.
Then I adjusted my body and wore a smiling face, preparing to spill the good news.
“You look very happy today, what is the secret?” My mom said, staring at me like I was going to beg her for something.
Okay I was actually going to beg. “Uhh mm… mom, I… I… there's something I would love to say to you.” I was so scared.
“Go on.” She sounded so straight.
“Huhhh?? There is this dance crew that I met in school today and I would love to be part of them. I have been searching for a contemporary dance family, and guess what?? I have it now. I will resume classes tomorrow.” I didn't even notice her facial expression at first.
My mom looked so confused and uninterested.
“You are not going.” The words came out of her mouth sharp and strong.
Immediately, I felt a sharp breeze blow through the tiny hairs in my body. “Emmmm…” my mouth was shaking.
“I said you are not going.”
“Mom, I don't think you know what contemporary dance is all about and the benefits of being a contemporary dancer.” I tried convincing her.
“Mia! Cut it off, now!” This time around, she was looking even more serious.
Tears filled my eyes, my body felt weak at that moment. I couldn't utter another word. I quietly walked out to do the dishes.
While working, I was still having flashbacks of the moves those girls made earlier. I wasn't able to eat dinner, so I slept off sober.
“Is this how I will lose this opportunity?” It was morning already. I did my chores and got to school thinking and frowning in the restroom.
“Hi baby… are you thinking about me?” A voice came from behind, masculine, bold and flirty. I stopped instantly.
“Ohhh.. not again.” I was still standing facing the same direction. I didn't need to turn to know it was Ethan, my ex.
“What do you want Ethan?” I said angrily but he didn't respond. Instead, he came closer to me, touching my arm with one hand while the other was in my hips.
My body did something I never expected.
“Don't you miss me?” He said caressing me.
I couldn't say anything. I've always liked Ethan, but he cheated on me with some random girl in my class.
He went further, licking my ear, neck, the other hand was already in my thighs.
I opened my mouth a bit, breathing slowly. I was already wet down. My legs were weak on the floor.
“Stop!” I grabbed his hand and moved away breathing faster than before.
“Stop what?” His eyes were seductive.
“Stop this. I can't do this Ethan. You cheated on me with some girl that isn't as pretty as i am, you made me feel less of myself. What do you want from me?” I kept breathing heavily this time around.
“Common babe… that's in the past, let's forget about it. Don't you miss me pounding you?” His facial expressions were so unbelievable.
“Hahaha… You… You are a jerk. Don't you ever come close to me again.” I walked to the class and sat next to Olivia.
“You are late Mia.”
“I'm… I'm sorry. I was in the restroom.”
“Mia are you okay?” She asked.
“Ughh.. yeah, yeah.” I took a deep breath. “I'm… I'm good.” I smiled at her.
“Spill.” She said looking at her book.
I was going to lie but I didn't. “Ethan caressed me… in the restroom. I was so stupid to even let him lay his hand on me. I really don't know what to do Olivia.”
“Ethan did what?” I thought she was going to stand up and go give him a punch. She took a deep breath, “it's okay. You have to always stand on your ground and not let that d**k lay a finger on you again. Come here.” We both smiled and hugged.
The day was gone already but I finally got a way to convince my mom. At least I will want to see the almighty Coach Leo.
