Chapter one
~Clarissa
I sighed as my parents dropped me off at the gates of the academic institution. They thought it would be best for me to attend school, but I had always been a loner and didn't want to be around people. To make things worse, everyone here was a werewolf, just like me. Well, things did not go as planned for me.
Making friends was the last thing on my mind as I was determined to keep my quiet nature. I had heard the tales of how things were quite different here. I had tried severally to explain to my parents that I did not want to be there but alas! I had no say in their decision. They could do whatever they wanted when they wanted and I had no choice but to listen to them.
Well, just like every other student, I had resumed shook but I had no idea what the school had in store for me.
Nothing seemed amusing to me. If wishes were horses…… I would not hesitate to return home that very minute but I knew I would not be accepted.
I took a few steps to the right and my gaze fell on the door to the registration office. A smirked escaped my lips as I remembered what had happened the day I had gone for my registration alongside Mother and Father.
“For reasons I had no idea of, everyone thought I was weird as I was 'too quiet” as they had said. While some believed I was shy, others argued I was definitely going through some things. I smirked as I shook my head. People never seemed to get tired of jumping into conclusions.
“She does the same way at home. However, I hope this school will open her up and make her feel better. I believe she would get more friends” Mother explained. I did not see the need for her to explain but she felt it was appropriate as one of the staffs had initially asked if I was dumb.
I tried to shake off my anxiety as I entered the school. I was greeted by the sight of students hanging out in groups, laughing and chatting. I felt out of place, like a fish out of water. I tried to assure myself hat I would get used to it but I knew within me that I would never get used to something of such nature. My first class was in the science block, and I made my way there as quickly as possible.
As I walked through the corridors, I caught the scent of something strange. It was a mixture of wet dog and blood, and it made my senses tingle. I shrugged it off and continued to my class, hoping to get there without drawing too much attention.
As I entered the science lab, all eyes turned to my direction. I had tried to tiptoe into the class so as not to draw attentionbut unfortunately, everyone still noticed I walked in. I had no idea of what to do at that time as my heart accelerated like it would pop out anytime soon.
I shot my eyes tightly and then heaved a sigh of relief as I traced my way to an emptyseat. My whole body trembled but I pretended to be fine.
A smile formed on some of the students' face while others mumbled words inaudible to each other.
“New student, right?” The tutor questions almost immediately, making me jerk as I had not expetected that.
“Yes... Yes sir.. Yes” I answered almost immediately. I had no idea what the mater was but the students began to laugh.
Well, I could not figure out the right way to address him.
“Introduce yourself to the class” He answered almost immediately. Wait what? That was definitely the last thing I had expected.
“I am Carissa” I answered almost immediately and he simply nodded while the rest of the students stared anyway.
The class began, and I tried to concentrate on what the teacher was saying even though I could faintly hear the whispers of the students. I was also aware of the fact that they were staring at me but that did not matter. Even though their gazes was what I had expected, I could not help but notice the guy who sat at a corner of the class, staring at me, bemused.
It meant nothing to me though as I did not want to make friends with anyone no matter what it was.
After class, I hurried out of the science block, hoping to avoid any further interaction with the other students. But fate had other plans for me.
As I walked down the corridor, I bumped into the stranger. Surprisingly, he had been waiting for me, and I was surprised when he spoke.
"Hey, I'm sorry if I was staring earlier. It's just that you're new here, and I thought I should welcome you."
“Thanks” I nodded and tried to leave immediately but then…
“I am sorry for standing in the way but do you want to hang out? Maybe grab lunch together? O can show you around the school. The food here is great. So…. What do you say?" He questioned and I could feel the amusement laced with his voice.
I was however quite upset as he seemed to be taking too much of my time.
“No, thanks” I answered immediately and turned to leave.
“By the way, I am Finn” He stopped me yet again and stretched his hands. Now, being stopped when I had important things always got me upset and he was beginning to make me angry. I was however determined to stay calm.
It was my first day in school after all.
“Clarissa” I answered almost immediately, not taking his hands. He nodded as he pulled his arm back in, embarrassed.
“Woulf you want to have lunch with me, tomorrow?” He questioned as I walked away but hem, a smrok formed on my face.
“No”
“Next week?”
“No”
“Two weeks time” He kept questioning but I was determined to frustrate him till he lets me go. I did not want friends after all.
Well, the lectures went well and everything turned out to be okay. Better than I had initially thought though.
Finn on the other hand had been obstinate as he continually troubled me because he wanted me to have lunch with him. I had tried to avoid him severally but it seemed quite impossible.
“So… would you like to have lunch with me?” He questioned one day, just like usual and I was determined to give him the answer he had always wanted.
“Yes”
