Jade’s POV
Getting back to New York feels a bit different compared to when I left.
Just as I touched down at the airport, my eyes went straight to where I stood years back with me in a stranger's arms and Aiden in my belly.
Just then, his little hand reached out to me, and quickly I wiped off my tears with my handkerchief, replacing my glasses.
“Mommy, are you crying?” Aiden questioned, and I shook my head in disapproval.
Crouching to his level, I brushed his shoulder and patted his head softly. Sniffing back the tears, “No, baby, I caught the flu.” I lied.
I could still hear Mrs Helen’s voice as well as that of her sister. Asking me to stay strong not just for myself, but for the baby as well.
The airport still looked the same, but just with some touch of renovations.
Right now, I'm not just an ordinary Jade Steele who left New York as a runaway girl, but a powerful woman who now rules in the business world. Has multiple connections and is also the CEO of Ardor Enterprise.
“Isn’t that Jade Steele?” I heard some whispers behind my back, but I'm not ready to pick a fight with anyone. It's too early for that.
“No. She just looks like her. Jade doesn't have a child.” I heard another say, causing me to roll my eyes in frustration.
I stiffened and stretched my hand towards one of my bodyguards, instructing him to pass me a glass for Aiden.
“Do we need to wear one?” Aiden’s tiny voice rang through the hall while I carefully placed the glasses on his eyes.
“Yes, baby. We are known here, okay,” I smiled, my eyes surveying the whole place while I waited for my bodyguards to bring the cars I had ordered.
“How many hours do we have left, Andrew?” I looked at the time, holding on to Aiden's little hand, while I slid my hand into my coat balancing on my heels.
“We have two hours left for the meeting to commence,” my personal assistant replied, flipping through his tablets while he placed them in front of me to see.
“Okay then.” I nodded, crouching again to my son's level. “Let's get some ice cream baby. It's your birthday after all.”
I thought this was going to make him happy, but judging from the way he looks—he was sad.
I don't need to take the glasses off him to know what my son is feeling. I could tell he wasn't satisfied. I know I had promised to show him who his father is…but that was just a prank every year.
“Mom—”
“I know, baby. I know I promised. But can we not just do this now? It's your big day.” I patted his head while watching it snow outside.
It was also the Christmas period. Just like I had left during Christmas. It's that season where everyone sticks with their family. The father, playing with his kids–so I know how Aiden must be feeling.
“We can also play games,” I raised a brow, but he wouldn't budge.
“Boss, the cars are here,” one of the guards ran to me, bowing his head.
“Good.” I swallowed hard, reasoning other things I could tell Aiden to cheer him up when I suddenly remembered his favorite.
“How about we get chicken and sauce!” I snapped and he burst into laughter.
“Chicken and sauce! Yes!” He screamed and ran towards the guards while they played with him as they all giggled.
I know my bodyguards should be strict and maintain professionalism. But when it comes to Aiden, they all just love him too much not to get along with him.
And as we pulled a convoy, everyone couldn't help but doubt whether I truly was Jade or not.
I've grown flesh from some places. My hips are much more rounded and curvy than before even though I'm wearing a coat due to the cold weather.
I look a bit chubby, and not the malnourished Jade who works her ass out for her father's company and Apex enterprise—Silas' company years back.
Just as we pulled outside the restaurant, which wasn't so filled with people who could easily recognize us, I beckoned Aiden to come closer.
“So, your father and I used to come here whenever we wanted to have a nice time to ourselves…”
“Does Daddy love chicken and sauce too?” Aiden asked, jumping excitedly.
Memories came crashing back for a few moments. I know Silas does. It was his best then but he wouldn't even allow me to prepare it for him.
Occasionally I wept all by myself at the table whenever I visited this restaurant on my own.
At least today, I'm here with someone who loves me. His other half—Aiden.
“Mom! Look!” He pointed towards one of the toys and scurried off.
“Keep an eye on him,” I commanded a few guards while the rest followed me to the ice cream store.
I wiped off my tears as they fell on the freezer where the ice creams were stored. I couldn't forget how pathetic I looked years back coming with Silas.
“You are just good for nothing! You disgust me,” he says, all those words to me, even while we do some shopping together.
I was never enough. I was the villain in his story. The one who ruined his perfect life.
Wiping off my tears, I picked the chocolate flavor for myself and vanilla for Aiden. And the rest of the guards, they all got their shares too.
“Get the chicken sauce for us all,” I commanded the guard. “I need to use the restroom,”
I was about to enter when a voice called from behind, causing me to halt in my tracks.
I know that voice…Silas. My heart skipped and my legs went numb.
My heart pounded faster in my chest I could barely think about anything.
“Jade?”
“Hey,” another masculine voice echoed from behind, pulling me into his embrace before I could fall.
