Chapter 18

1043 Words
Jade’s POV “And who are you?” Silas kicked off arrogantly, sliding his hand into his pocket to stare at Jaxon, whose countenance seemed to have changed. Everyone looked tense, almost making the rest of the guests start asking if anything was going on. I could see some secret agents activating their cameras. I have secret agents too, and I know how they work. I sometimes use them just to take down some of my opponents by exposing their dark secrets. And that has been how I was able to build Ardor Enterprise. “Jaxon, I can handle this.” I placed a hand on his chest, staring into his eyes while I shook my head in disapproval. All through the period I was doing that, my heart was pounding so fast I could barely control it. “Can we all take our seats?” The MC finally announced that Don Rosso was already on his way. Before anyone could say a word, the door was pushed open, and Don Rosso walked in majestically. Everyone rose to their feet, clapping their hands in honor of him, including this fool standing next to me. He hadn’t taken more than five steps when he stopped in front of me, his eyes fixed on mine for a moment, flickering from me to Silas. Quickly, I took out my phone and sent a text to John. [Bring the divorce papers in.] In a few minutes, [Yes ma] Soon, Don Rosso was on the platform, his hand signaling for everyone to go quiet for a while. Meanwhile, John was already in, handing me the brown envelope, whispering the next activity to my hearing. “Okay, I’ll be out shortly,” I responded, holding the envelope tighter like my life depends on it because it truly does. Silas and I are done. I want to open a new chapter in my life. And that includes just me and my child, Aiden. We are more than enough. I cannot introduce Silas to him as his father. He cannot have a criminal as a father. “I’ve already made my decision on whom to partner with.” Mr. Don Rosso started, his eyes fixed on me all through his speech. Even though I was distracted by so much going on in my head, yet, I could not miss it that he was looking in my direction. “My final verdict is that I’ll be partnering with Ardor Enterprise.” He concluded, and everywhere was filled with noise, leaving everyone so restless and angry. Noise filled the air. People talking, men venting their anger, asking why it should be Ardor whose CEO has remained anonymous for five years. “I’ve done my research, and I can tell you no one deserves my investment more than the CEO of Ardor.” Mr. Don Rosso insisted, staring in my direction still. “This is not acceptable, Mr. Don, I’m sorry.” Silas interrupted him, stepping away from me, looking so confused and angry at the same time. Mr. Don Rosso was ready to invest a sum of 300 billion dollars into anyone’s business with whom he partnered. And this is not just a more groundbreaking achievement for my already established company, but I’ll be topping every company around the world. I’m literally a billionaire. “This CEO whom you want to invest so much in isn’t even here in the meeting,” Silas gestured with his hand, anger visible on his face. “And yet, you want to award him—” “It’s not a he,” Mr. Don Rosso cuts in, his eyes still not leaving mine. I already knew what was about to happen, and quickly I made a call through to John, but to my surprise, I was met by a message that almost destabilized me. John: [Miss Jade, I’m afraid to say Aiden is missing. We are looking for him at the moment. Be rest assured, he will be found.] I wasn’t going to stay still after this. What does he mean I shouldn’t be afraid? As a matter of fact, Aiden was the only one who had kept me going all through these years. My strength had failed at some point, but whenever I looked at him, he gave me the reason to keep going. And now he’s missing? What am I supposed to do with that information? “The CEO of Ardor Enterprise is a woman, and she’s here in our midst.” Mr. Don announced, and my heart skipped. I halted in my tracks, knowing fully well that my cover had been blown. I came here to use my feminine ways to get him to invest in me, but it turns out he’s a mafia lord for a reason. “Miss Jade,” he called out, leaving startled. I stiffened, drawing in much air just so I wouldn’t f**k up in front of the crowd. His next word was a calculated one, because I was ready for the show that was about to start. Right here, and now. “Welcome, the CEO of Ardor Enterprise. A woman who successfully defeated every man, and made them fall to her feet!” he clapped, his laughter echoing through the hall while everyone watched with dropped jaws. Silas couldn’t believe it either. He laughed out loud, running his hand through his hair in total disbelief. His eyes bulged out of their sockets as he turned to Mr. Don Rosso. “You cannot be serious right now. She is…” he stuttered as he watched every eligible young man rush towards me, asking me to please help them. Quickly, I made a call to one of the guards, my heart racing faster. In the heat of the moment, they arrived, making sure not even a spec touches me. “It’s nice to meet you, Miss Jade of Ardor Enterprise.” Mr. Don Rosso greeted, formally stretching his hand forward. “Jade, can we talk please—” My gaze fell to my hand, which he held without permission, and I wasted no time in connecting my hand to his cheeks. “f**k off, Silas Thornfield!” I lashed out in tears, causing the whole crowd to gasp in shock.
