Joey’s POV
Either something wonderful or something horrible was in the air.
The Rainbow Moon was set to make its three day appearance, which meant an abundance of amazing things or a storm of horrible things. This year I hoped it would be something good.
Five years ago when it came around, it was bad. I broke my nose, my toe and my collarbone. It was also the first time I was sent to Mom’s job for ‘misuse of magic’. I tried to fix my toe and ended up setting a fire instead. It was a horrible three days.
I figured I was due for some good luck after everything I’d been through since starting at Stormine.
The energy the night before the Rainbow Moon was kind of insane in the school. Everyone was either super hopeful or preparing for the worst.
“I just know I’m gonna have the worst luck these next three days!” Chloey exclaimed.
“How do you figure?” Zoey asked.
“I’ve had too good of a year! I’m in love and I finally feel like I know who I am. No way I have a good Rainbow Lunar Phase.”
“Fair enough. But if that’s the case I will be staying far away from you!” I laughed.
“Yeah, sorry, Chloey, but I’ve had enough bad luck this last year,” Marsden agreed.
She sighed. “It’s okay…I get it.”
“I’ll hang out with you babe,” Rune offered. “I’ll take your bad luck with your good luck.”
“You’re a better man than me, Rune,” Marsden snorted. “If Jo was due for some bad luck, I’d have to be far away from her.”
“Yeah right, you can barely go three hours without Joey!”
“This coming from the guy who told me Chloey was…what was it? The only thing that makes him feel whole?”
“Hey that was private!” Rune jokingly glared at him.
Tate looked between the two boys. “You guys hang out by yourselves?”
“Yeah, when the girls are doing their blue energy thing.” Marsden shrugged.
“How do you have time to do that with…all your school work?”
I felt like he was going to say something else, but I ignored it.
“Oh we do homework together,” Rune informed him. “Then we go hang with the guys.”
“The guys?” Tate questioned.
“Zander and Keene. Poor Keene huh Marsden?”
“Misty is acting like a lunatic.” Marsden shook his head.
“She still won’t talk to me,” I sighed. “I’m at a loss here.”
“Maybe when the Rainbow Moon rises and you get lucky you can try to fix it,” Zoey suggested.
“Hmm…not a bad idea…”
--
I woke up in the middle of the night feeling strange.
It felt like something sparkly was dancing through my body. I felt oddly amazing. I rolled over and shook Marsden.
“Hm what? Is everything okay?” Marsden asked shooting up.
“Do you want to make love to me?” I whispered.
“Joey, you scared me, I thought something bad was happening.”
“No, but something magical can happen if you come with me.”
Marsden’s demeanor seemed to change. “I’ll go anywhere with you,”
We grabbed the blanket and tiptoed through the castle to get outside. We laid the blanket down right under the Rainbow Moon. It was absolutely stunning. I had never felt more in touch with the universe as a whole.
In an instant I knew Marsden and I would have a wonderful Rainbow Lunar Phase.
Marsden kissed me softly. I could see the different colors of the moonlight floating down on us.
“I love you,” Marsden whispered. “You are everything I’ve ever wanted. I wouldn’t be able to live without you.”
“I feel the same way Marsden. Only you’re everything I never thought I wanted. I am yours for life.”
We kissed again, taking as little clothes as we had to off. I gasped as Marsden entered me. I felt as though the moonlight was dancing through my body now. Transferring from Marsden to me and then back to him again.
Marsden’s strokes were slow and purposeful. There was meaning in every thrust. Our moans similarly were slow and soft. We kissed the entire time, fully connected in every single way.
Making love under the Rainbow Moon was the most incredible experience of my life.
For the first time in a long time, I felt like everything was actually going to be okay.
--
The smiles didn’t leave mine and Marsden’s faces from the moment we woke up the next morning.
“Someone’s having a good Rainbow Lunar Phase,” Keene commented.
“We made love under the moon last night,” I smiled. “It was magical.”
“You’re a witch, everything is magical.” Zander chuckled.
“I’m also having a great Rainbow Lunar Phase,” Charleen offered. “I found a necklace I haven’t seen in three months.”
“That’s amazing!” Marsden smiled.
“Zander, how's yours going?” I questioned.
“Don’t know yet,” He admitted.
“Keene, I’m using my three days to get you and Misty back together.” I informed him. “Don’t you worry.”
“Oh, Joey, you don’t have to do that at all.” Keene assured me. “I don’t think she’s coming back.”
“All you have to do is tell her why you’re so absent.” Charleen stated.
“That’s easier said than done,” He sighed.
“I’m gonna help Joey.” Marsden stated.”It’s gonna work.”
“If you say so.”
A scream rang through the Feasting Chambers. I whipped around to see Zoey’s face covered in blood. I ran over to her.
“What happened?” I asked.
“Tate broke my nose!” She sobbed.
“I-it was an accident!” Tate insisted. “Come on, let’s go to the Infirmary.”
“Joey, can you take me?” Zoey questioned. “No offense, Tate, but I don’t really want to be near you right now.”
“Babe!”
“Give her space, Tate.” I declared before putting my arm around her and leading her away.
“These next three days are going to be horrible!” Zoey gasped.
“I’m sorry you didn’t get the luck this time,”
“What is going on here?!” Chloey ran over to us.
“Zoey is having a bad Rainbow Lunar Phase.” I informed her.
“Oh no, I hoped we would all have a good one.”
“Great, so it’s only me?” Zoey asked.
“Unfortunately, but if it makes you feel any better, I think Rune is having a bad one.” Chloey offered.
“What’s happened to him?” I questioned.
“Not sure yet, but he said he doesn’t very good. It sounded like he was hacking up something this morning in the bathroom.”
“That’s too bad. Maybe I’ll bring him some soup.”
--
It was clear to see who was having a good Rainbow Lunar Phase.
The people who weren’t looked kind of rough and messed up on top of looking horribly distressed.
I was relieved that Misty didn’t seem upset.
“Hi!” I said brightly.
“Just because I’m smiling doesn’t mean I’m not mad at you!”
I tried to feel sad, but I just felt too happy. “Misty, come on, you and I are friends. I wouldn’t sleep with Keene. You know I’m like obsessed with Marsden!”
“So why are you two sneaking around?” She demanded.
“Because Marsden and I were having issues and Keene was trying to help.”
Her face softened. “Are you and Marsden okay?”
“Yes, we are now…because of Keene. He really helped me understand Marsden better. And you know what, Keene talked about you like all the time. He’s so in love with you Misty. Isn’t that magnificent? Life is so beautiful and we should not be spending it on fighting over silly things.”
The last part was definitely the Rainbow Moon talking.
“You swear nothing happened between you two?” Misty asked.
“I swear on my sisters’ lives I didn’t do anything with him. Marsden Thorton is the only man for me. My soul and body and mind are all his. There’s really no room for other men.”
Misty reached out and hugged me.
“I’m so glad to hear that. You know I really miss Keene. He makes me so happy.”
“Well let’s go get him back!” I grabbed her hand and pulled her through the castle.
We ran right into Director Magnus.
“Where are you ladies going so quickly?”
“I’m going to get Keene and Misty back together!” I exclaimed. “And then Marsden and I are going to make love!”
“I didn’t need to know that last part, Joey.” Magnus chuckled.
“Sorry! Bye!”
We found Keene with Marsden at a table outside.
“Hi! Misty forgives you Keene!” I said giddily.
“You do?” Keene asked.
“Joey told me you were just helping her out. That’s so sweet Keene!” She sat next to him and gave him a passionate kiss. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too baby,” Keene kissed her again.
“We’re matchmakers babe!” I declared.
Marsden got up and kissed me. “You’re amazing!”
“You’re phenomenal,” I whispered. “Let’s go make love.”
--
This was by far the best Rainbow Lunar Phase I had ever had.
Everything just kept working out perfectly. I was doing amazing in my classes, Marsden and I were happy, my sleep schedule was immaculate. Life was amazing.
I danced around the secret room in the Celestial Tower as Marsden worked patiently on the barrier. I was still so grateful Tate and Zoey hadn’t found the secret compartment that held the source of the barrier when they were snooping around.
I fell down on the bed happily.
“Marsden, life is so beautiful.” I sighed.
“You’re so beautiful.” He laughed. “The most beautiful creature to ever grace this planet.”
I smiled to myself. That felt so nice to hear.
“Holy s**t!” Marsden exclaimed. “Joey!”
I sat up. “What happened baby?”
“I did it.”
“Did what?”
“The barrier…it’s officially down. I completed my task.”
