I found myself walking back the same way I came, wet grass still weaving between my toes. I could hear his heavy footsteps behind me accompanied by his loud breathing.
"Adi, get back here." He huffed.
"Why? I don't feel like it."
Before I could turn to catch his reaction, his heavy arms were around my waist, and his face nestled into my neck.
"You. Smell. Amazing." He whispered, taking pauses between compliments. I froze in his hold, relishing the feeling of the sparks that spread over my body.
I tried to walk away from his grasp but I was harshly yanked back into his embrace.
"No." His deep voice rattled against my neck, making my hairs stand on end.
I stood still, allowing him to have free range of my neck. I looked down at his fingers which were entwined just below my navel.
I placed my right hand over his, tracing his left hand with the tips of my fingers. A low, satisfied rumble left his throat and I couldn't help but let a small smile stretch across my lips.
I know what he did was wrong, but his touch feels so right.
"We need to go back, I don't want any unwanted visitors seeing my love without my mark."
He turned me to face him and picked me up so our chests were pressed together. My legs wrapped themselves around his waist tightly. He began to jog at a steady pace without breaking a sweat.
We arrived in front of his pack house within 5 minutes, as he walked up the porch he look at me with a strained look before setting me down on the doorstep.
"Please, get something to eat from the kitchen while I pack a bag. I will be taking you to my cabin for the night." He said, looking to my eyes for approval. I nodded my head lightly and he entered the house. I followed behind him, stopping in the middle of the living room.
I paused, remembering an important detail of my task; finding the kitchen.
I coughed into my elbow before speaking up quietly.
"Um, Alpha Gage?" I spoke, hoping he would answer me.
"Don't call me Alpha." He grumbled from the other side of the room. He turned to look at me before speaking once more. "I am Gage to you, or babe if you prefer." With this, he smirked and walked away from me.
Well, so much for receiving help. I wandered aimlessly through the halls before the smell of beef and tomatoes crept into my nose. I followed the scent to my left, where a huge black marble kitchen stood before me.
I walked into the doorway, seeing a giant bowl of pasta placed on the kitchen island in the middle of the room. A pan of sauce, as well as ground beef, sat beside the bowl. My mouth watered at the sight of the food and my stomach grumbled in agreeance.
I scavenged the cabinets, finally locating a bowl and fork. I pulled a mountain of pasta into my bowl and topped it with a crazy amount of sauce and meat.
Quietly, I gathered my dinner and sat at the granite countertop. I raised the fork to my mouth, almost moaning in delight at the smell of the food. Just as I was nearing my first bite, Jace walked in.
He stared at me coldly, so I dropped my eyes to avoid his gaze.
"No." He spoke quietly, "Please look at me."
I raised my head to regain eye contact with him, before regretting it instantly. His eyes held a look of sympathy, his soft blue orbs comforting me.
"I'm sorry about this whole situation, Adi. But, I want to warn you of something."
He looked at me, presumably asking for permission to continue. I nodded and he proceeded.
"We know about Elliot. He's been trying to enter our boundaries since we brought you here." He spoke, just barely above a whisper.
"He wants you, and I believe he isn't alone. Each time he draws closer, there are more warriors aiding him. We haven't told Alpha Gage yet, but we plan on it soon before a wa-."
"What did you plan on telling me?" Gage spoke from the doorway of the kitchen.
"Nothing, Alpha," Jace spoke, dropping his gaze to the floor immediately.
"No, it isn't nothing. You were planning on telling me about this pup, right? The pup that is trying to come here and steal my mate? I know that a beta of your stature wouldn't dare to hide details like this from an Alpha. Correct?" He spoke fluidly, with each word stepping closer and closer to me.
His power radiated through the room, and I knew Gage's wolf had risen to join the conversation. My heart tightened at the thought of Gage lashing out.
"You were going to tell me," he steps closer to Jace and me, "that you have upgraded and improved security efforts," another step "that all guards are trained properly to bring this mutt in safely"
yet another step "and that I was going to be informed of every attempt that he has made to enter our boundaries, correct?!" He roared at the beta, his voice shaking the fixtures of the room.
"Y-ye-ss, Alpha Gage."
"Good," he spoke in a hushed tone, his breath trailing down my back. He buried his nose into my neck, taking a deep breath before whispering quietly to me, "I love your scent." He took one more deep breath before standing straight up again to speak to Jace.
"You, my beta, are dismissed."
With that, Jace ran out of the room, his hands trembling around the bowl that contained his dinner, leaving me alone in the kitchen with the beast at bay.
