Lizzy waited and waited for his call hoping he would really reach out. She felt hope drain out of her and patience. Fear gasped every part of her whenever the thoughts of calling him and getting ignored crossed her. She would usually sit near the entrance hoping he showed up for he had proved to be completely unpredictable. The whole week passed without any show up of him and she grew impatient. One night after cleared with their errands, her courage caved in and she picked the card from her purse and dialed. She counted one to three before pressing call then deleted. She did this five times before breathing in and out, then pressed call. It rang for a while, and just when she was about to hung up he picked. "Hello"! She went silent, scared of his husky deep voice from the other end. He sounded angry scaring her before realizing, he did not really know who was on the other end. "It's Lizzy." Another silent seconds, both breathing hard like lovers. Lizzy listened calmly as he explained how it h had been a hard week full of pressure from his clients. He apologized for not showing up to pick his left assignment. "It's alright, I was just notifying you that I have finished incase you ever need it." "Thank you Lizzy." "Can I appreciate by buying you a cup of coffee when I get back from work?" "Sure sir". "Call me Ian. Not sir" "Okey Ian". Lizzy hang up fast heart beating. Was that for real? Did they just arrange a date? She smiled widely from what had just happened. She was happy she had just earned herself a date. Unlike what everyone dictated, she would do it her way. She had fallen hard for Ian and would not be letting him off her sleeve easily. This was what her heart wanted, what it craved. Thinking about him had become a norm in her life. Any moment never passed without him crossing her thoughts. Reaching home she found her mother busily preparing the evening food. She greeted her warmly and asked to take a sit near her. "Dear Elizabeth, of late you have become bubbly and you seem to be lost in your thoughts smiling with your eyes. I know you are or falling in love. Or there is a male person involved. It is not wrong, I have been there, watched my friends too get there and all I can say is be cautious. You are a grown woman, with a job and very well mannered. I have no reason to stop this stage of your life. Just promise me you will be careful." Lizzy's mom said "Yes mum. I am. I promise to take care." Lizzy hugging her lightly squeezed her mom's palms. "Okey now go shower as I serve." "Thank you mum." Lizzy replied running to her room. Lizzy understanding her mother's concern as that of every parent, knew she would not let her down. She had waited enough and had never met anyone who made her feel anything like this. It was a genuine feeling that just came with every thought of him. Choosing and laying aside attires she would wear on the said date, each getting counter checked on the dressing mirror, Lizzy smiled at the image of her. Her skin glowed with excitement. Her mother's voice awakening her from her escapade, she rushed to take a warm shower. The whole week had Lizzy mind wondering away to the awaited date, creating scenes in her thoughts of it would be and all they would say. Everyone kept waking her up from her rendezvous and she embarrassingly apologized. On the said day Lizzy had butterflies from morning. She did not eat anything and never felt hungry. She run her chores in a hurry at home for it was on a Sunday. Her mom would be at church the whole day until evening, doing church fundraising which she had insisted on Lizzy's contribution. She had ample time to prepare herself without anyone scrutiny. Her face lightly powdered, lips coloured with a natural lip balm, she pouted at the mirror assuming Ian was the one staring back. Was he fun? She wondered what kind of person he was. One sure thing is he was mysterious. One final look and she was done, picking her blazer and her purse she left. She was familiar with the coffee bar since that had always been her escape zone. She once went for a date and liked the aura oozing from their environs. It was serene and calming. Their drum like tables, creative traditional arts on walls and the wooden chairs, heavy vegetation bringing out nature on a higher level. It made her calm whenever she yearned for lonesome moments. And this was such a day. She ensured to arrive early to relax, get ready for all the awkward to happen. Also her hearts race refused to cool down completely no matter the breathe ins and outs she did the house. The stomach's butterfly increased with every second that passed. Her legs were weak too so she decided to pick a table far at a corner concealing her from her favorite waiter joe. If joe sees her, he will run with endless questions about how she has been. She was not ready for these questions. Joe was gay and his love stories were endless. Also he loved complements, which she was never mean with. They met once on her birthday, became friends, exchanged contacts and since then, everytime Lizzy switched on her phone, Joe's funny meme were waiting. Lizzy loved Joe unconditionally, for his heart was easy and carefree. The best thing about male besties,is they don't tell on you and also they are genuine. But this was not his day. Sitting under some magnificent curved tree, trying to relax, a waitress approached her smiling. "Hello! Can I get Joe for you?" "No" Lizzy replied. "Am here to meet someone else. Kindly I will take a cold lemon flavoured drink. Thank you." Taking her order she left like she had appeared in a rush. Lizzy tried getting busy on her w******p but nothing kept the anxious feeling away. Maybe just maybe the drink would. Her stomach even had that nauseous feel. She rushed to the washroom, splashed some cold water on her face. Making s u re not to mess her make up. She looked at her watch and realized they agreed on 4 and it was getting to five. Would he snob their first date? Was she overthinking? Getting back he was there, at their table looking sharp. Did he always like disappearing and appearing? Mesmerized by his fine clothes, she just froze on his looks that were sharp and well marched. His rusty jeans had been paired with an expensive boot that did not know the smells of dusty roads. She had to steal a quick glance at her sandals to make sure she didn't look like she had passed by the posho mill. He noticed her discomfort, pulled her to him and whispered, "you look just fine." She couldn't believe he did that. All her fears disappeared with his warm squeeze, she will never forget how homey it felt. Smiling she pushed him away reaching for her chair to sit. He looked so handsome with his dimples popping up everytime he smiled. "How are you Lizzy?" "Fine! You are so clean it embarrasses me." Lizzy said shying. Ian comforting her replied, "Lizzy you are completely amazing. I have been with many women of kinds and surprisingly you are special from most of them in an amazing way. You are kind, soft, outspoken yet shy. You do know what you want and you reach for it. You don't feign class or status no matter where you go. I have never been so stuck at someone's personality like at yours Lizzy." Lizzy was surprised at how jealousy choked her at the mention of other women in his life before her. One thing she was sure about is they were classy and beautiful than her. Was he still in love with any? She would be disgusted if it was another man and would give up her interest in a blink. But not Ian. No courage pushed her away from him. Not even the girl her friend's believed was in her breathed when Ian was around. "Are you still in love with them Ian? Are you still attached to them?" "No" he lied Ian knew the women he had dealt with were chaotic. They were drunkards, loose mouths, unafraid of public and drama queens. His friend always noted that all had common character. They loved money, spent it like he owed them. He had always prayed for peace and the day he saw her, something calming whispered his prayers had been answered. Caressing her natural hair, he stared deep unto her face and saw worries. He was sure of what worried her. A surging urge to kiss it away filled him making him lean closer. Her natural cream moisturized lips were inviting, and he saw her part them for her like she read his thoughts. "Lizzy!"
