The truth comes out

“Why were you so cruel to me Lucas?” I asked him I wanted to know I needed to know. He looked at me and bit his bottom lip. “I was afraid of you” Lucas said and looked at me. “Me? You the big bad wolf was afraid of me?” I was so confused by his admission. “You were a hunter” he simply said. “My family were hunters.” I corrected. “Before your family slaughtered them.” I said quietly. “They had no choice little Luna” Lucas said sympathetically. “I know” I sighed I hated it, but I understood. “We spared you though” Lucas spoke.

“Why?” I asked “what?” Lucas looked confused. I guess he expected a thank you. “Why? Why did your family spare me?” I asked. “Because we live by a code, and you were only 11 you were a child. We don’t kill children.” Lucas told me and I must have made a shocked face because he looked at me weird.

“I was always told that wolves kill everyone kids included” I shook my head “well you were told wrong at least for my pack.” Lucas spoke. “You aren’t the monsters…we are” I realized, and Lucas cupped my face using his thumbs to wipe my eyes. I didn’t even know I was crying.

Axel came in seconds later “I heard yelling Lucas what did you do to her” he came to me seeing how upset I was. “I just told her the truth calm down.” Lucas spoke and axel looked mad. “What exactly did you tell her?” the young werewolf asked looking at my neck for marks. “I’m fine” I spoke and looked at Axel.

“You are crying” Axel corrected me. “Yea but I’m fine okay” I countered. He was still looking me over for his brother’s mark. “I didn’t mark her i***t she is still seventeen” Lucas told his brother. “Well, I had to make sure” Axel said defensively. “Neither of you have even asked me what I want you realize you are fighting over a girl that you don’t even know is available.” I spoke. “What do you want Liv?” Axel looked at me, his face softened. “I’m and alpha if you reject me it could end in your death” Lucas said matter of factly.

“You want to know what I want? I want to be free” I said “I want to leave the pack lands” I said honestly. “And go where?” Axel asked me only to earn a shrug from me in response. “I don’t matter she isn’t leaving” Lucas crossed his arms over his chest. “You can’t keep me here I’m not a wolf you might be and alpha but you’re not my alpha!” I spoke surprising even myself.

A low growl came from Lucas “want to bet?” He spoke and I looked at him, his eyes were black before I had a chance to respond. He pinned me against my bed growling and snarling at me. “Lucas stop it” I said and tried to keep my voice from shaking as he bared his teeth ready to mark me and turn me in the process. “Lucas she isn’t of age okay stop this” Axel spoke the younger brother had more self-control.

“I don’t care how old she is I’m going to mark her so she can’t leave” Lucas growled his voice low deep and scary

“Lucas! Lucas you don’t have to do this okay we can talk about it!” I shouted “enough! I’m done talking” Lucas said coldly. Axel left and I closed my eyes. This is it I’m done for. I thought. When I heard a deep booming voice and Lucas cowered away like a puppy. “Perhaps you’d like to talk to wolf court then?” the Alpha Rafeal said, “no father” Lucas spoke his eyes back to their normal color.

I sat up and Axel sat next to me as Lucas tried to apologize and Rafael made him go to his bedroom. Soon it was just me and Axel. “I’m fine you don’t have to stay with me” I told Axel. “I know but I want to stay anyway.” He spoke and I groaned. “If this is part of the competition between brothers to see who gets my hand…” I started to say. But Axel kissed me, he never kissed me before.

“It’s not about competing against Lucas for me Liv. I love you and I always have.” Axel admitted. I blushed and looked at the boy in front of me. “If you want to leave you can and if you want to stay human and be with me, I’m okay with that too. I don’t have to mark you” he whispered. I wasn’t expecting him to admit this.

“that’s why you never got a mate?” I asked him when a wolf falls in love with someone who isn’t a wolf, they aren’t given a mate as a sort of punishment. He nodded softly “I fell in love with you before I turned 18 and never received a mate. I wanted to choose you as a mate” Axel said. I looked at him.

“But Lucas does too and if he asks first and then you have to say yes” he trailed off after that. “Well, you have to ask first” I spoke and kissed his cheek. “Will you say yes if I do?” Axel asked me. I just looked at him “Axe I don’t know honestly” I said to him. “That was never part of my plan.” I breathed out.

“What is part of your plan then?” he asked and sounded mad. “Axe?” I looked at him confused. “No, I want to know what your plan is?” he asked. “Because I am a great guy! I’m a really great guy and you could do a lot worse Olivia!” he shouted.

“Where is this coming from?” I asked and looked at him confused. “I want to know your plan?” Axel asked and looked at me. “I didn’t really have a plan I just…” I started “you didn’t have a plan, but I don’t fit in the nonexistent plan? You got to know something about what you want to do?” Axel asked. “I know I don’t want to be a wolf!” I finally snapped.
