#1 The Curse (Part 2)

Carson quickly went to defense mode to protect Skylar. “Who are you?”, he exclaimed. He knew that whatever it was, it was definitely something that had to be sent by Cody. Just then the creature jumped out of the bushes to reveal itself. “Alsjeblieft, ik kom in vrede.”, it said to Skylar because apparently only Skylar understood what it said. Skylar quickly asked Carson not to harm it. It was a creature of about legs-height and wore the skull of a demon-horse but was somehow more of a miniature horse with leather wings. It quickly switched to the language that both of them spoke; English. “I’m sorry to have startled the both of you.” “What are you?”, Carson immediately asked.  “Carson don’t be rude.”, Skylar scolded him.  “It’s quite alright. It isn’t every day that Carson here gets to see a nuckelavee. But I am here to warn the two of you that Cody is currently unstoppable as long as the crystal rose is in Sapphire’s possession.” “Wait. How do you know who we’re? How do you know about the crystal rose?” Skylar was puzzled at how well informed it was about them. “That’s the exact reason why I can speak the language that only you can understand. It’s something like a demon-guardian angel thing. - It’s very complicated to explain the whole thing to you especially when Lucifer only gave me a limited time offer.” “Can you cut to the chase?”, Carson asked him to quicken up so that they could get home as soon as possible.  “Alright. - Let no one stand in your way or you will have arduous time finding your way out. Let the one who would be there for you through thick and thin be the one who would be there for you and you would fail but if you were to do this alone you would fall additionally. So beware of the beast cage for it is always wide open. Don't let your emotions surmount if you should bring your soulmate along for the ride. Your emotions would be your downfall.” Once the message was said, the nuckelavee disappeared into thin air; probably brought back to the demon realm to watch over Skylar.  “Okay? I didn’t understand a single word he said, did you?”, Carson asked Skylar who was obviously still deep in thoughts. He couldn’t tolerate being ignored so he took her hand. “Are you alright?” He used his charming voice to snap her out of her trance. “Yeah, I’m fine. It’s just that I need some time to process all this, there are things that I still do not get. Like how do I have a demon-guardian-angel when I’m not a demon and there is still no saying how to defeat Cody.” Carson pulled her other hand in and stood in front of her, “Don’t overthink it too much. The truth is that I have been growing up keeping Cody’s secret from people like Sapphire. She is a real pain in the ass at times but then with Cody and Tyler being all loco, we need to make sure that they do not tell Sapphire about the other world.” “And what would happen if he did?”, Skylar protested. “You know exactly what would happen. And because humans cannot know about divinity, we might have to-”  Before Carson could finish his sentence, Skylar started worrying, “Kill her?” “No. Let me finish. We might need to erase her memory of Cody and Tyler and create new identities for the two of them so that it doesn’t leak out to cause her to remember the truth.” “Why bother to erase her memories when we could always just make her keep it a secret? - And how are you allowed to know about it while they kept it a secret from me for the past months? I mean like they barely know the truth about your real family’s lineage and yet you knew Cody so well from the moment you were young.” “I guess that’s a secret that the two of us would never know. I also never saw the day that you and I were a thing and yet here we are holding hands, walking through a creepy forest.” Then they heard the rustling of the leaves and the both of them started going into defense mode again. “That was definitely not a deer.” Skylar and return told him to keep his voice down. They were about to pull out the weapons that they had geared up with before heading out. But when they got to it, it wasn’t who they had expected. “Good to see that the two of you are getting along but we must really be on our way.” It was a man who was suited up in a tux, had jetblack hair and dark brown eyes. He had an British accent and was about Carson’s height.  “Wait why should we follow you? We barely even know you.”, Skylar protested.  “Skylar.” Carson hushed her. “Trust me that he is on our side.” “You know him?”, she whispered back. “Yes. - Well I don’t really know him but he’s Cody’s great grandfather.” “Wait. The infamous, Lucifer?” “Yes. Now shut up and just follow him. He should have a plan to take down Cody and Tyler for good without hurting them.” “You do understand that there is no point in whispering, right? I can still hear you loud and clear. - Oh and by the way, I think there is no need for any introductions whatsoever since we already know who everyone is.” They stepped out of the forest and onto a road where a Tesla was parked on the roadside. “Well don’t just stand there like a dead fish hop in and I’ll explain everything that the two of you would have to do on the way.” He quickly started the engine and stepped on the gas. “Since we’ve already skipped all introductions, why don't I just fill you in and drop you home, alright?” Without waiting for them to reply, Lucifer jumped right into the plan that Elyssa and Alec had briefed him about upon arrival on Earth. “Now while the two of you pretend to be Sapphire, Cody and Tyler’s friend; Elyssa, Alec and Alison would try to sneak in to steal a book that rightfully belongs in hell. And because no one has bothered to read it, thankfully, there would be no need to erase anyone’s memories unless they are willing to erase their memories, got it?” “How do you imply that we ‘pretend’ to be their friends when they barely trust us?”, Skylar intervened. “Just like your mother, you are full of questions.”, Lucifer sighed. “You can start anew, just like I did when I decided to leave Hell behind. There isn’t a need to really become friends now is there? I mean like I know the hate she has for you is really too much and honestly speaking there is already a spot reserved for her in Hell, as you like it anyways.” “Why are you treating me like I am family when I am clearly an outsider to your family before this?”, Skylar was filled with questions but she knew that most of the questions weren’t really quite the time to ask yet.  “As much as I wish that I could tell you, I really do not have time to explain your whole family heritage and everything and this isn’t quite the time to tell you.” “Alright, then continue whatever you were saying. Did I hear something about a book that doesn’t belong to the Jones’?” “Yes, you heard me correctly. So while you and Carson are busy distracting Sapphire, Elyssa and Alec would try their best to search the whole mansion for the book as well as the crystal rose.” “And all we have to do is act as a form of distraction?”, said Skylar. Lucifer nodded and soon they got back to the Gomez’s mansion. “Here’s your stop. Well, now you can go and don’t forget about the plan.”, said Lucifer. The moment they got out of the car, Lucifer and the car disappeared in flames of Hell. Skylar watched as the impossible happened in front of her eyes. However, after months being with Carson, she believed the impossible was indeed possible. She knew that every folklore that Elyssa had told her was true but she was still curious about the demon realm that Elyssa always spoke of.  When there were secrets that she is supposed to keep, she would really keep it. But the stroll towards Carson’s place was just filled with nothing but silence. There was no communication between the couple. It was obvious that there were many things that Carson wanted to tell Skylar but couldn’t yet and as much as he wanted to, he just never could find the right time to tell her. The moment they walked in, Skylar was startled by the twins who just jumped on her. “Skylar!”, exclaimed Jonas.  “Where had the two of you been all day?”, said Chloe. “We’ve been waiting all day for you to come home.” She continued to look at them from the top to the bottom to see if there was any trace of blood because it would usually be because they had been demon hunting. “We’ve just been busy that’s all.”, Carson admitted. She had grown close to Chloe though Chloe still has trust issues when she is around Skylar.  “Are you sure about that? Because last I checked you were at the Jones’ so I’m not buying your innocence.” Chloe had never trusted Skylar since the moment she met her. “Tell me what you were doing there?” “Alright. You win Chloe. But we were there for only one reason which is to find a sacred rose.”, Carson explained since he knew that Chloe had trust issues with Skylar from the start and everything that Skylar said will undoubtedly become somewhat a lie for Chloe. “And because Cody and Tyler had stolen it, it is our job to get it back.” “Why don’t you involve someone else in this case? And why must it always be you who have to clean up Cody’s messes? Isn’t there anyone else who could do it? You barely even get anything in return and yet you still persist in wanting to help him.” Carson knelt down to her level and told her, “It doesn’t matter whether I get known or not, because what matters is that everyone remains safe. There is no need to be known as a celebrity just for saving people’s lives. It’s just something you won’t understand.” Before standing up, he planted a kiss on her forehead and took Skylar to his room.  “How do you do it? It’s like every time you talk to her she is calm but when I try talking some sense into her she just ignores me and says that I am lying.”, Skylar asked him.  “Just give her some time, she’ll open up soon enough. I know that she has her own trust issues around people whom she barely knew. And because she is usually used to being the only girl at home, it’s normal for her to get a little jealous at times. And growing up, she’s seen how I always put the needs of others before myself and she doesn’t really understand why. She may be young but she is also curious at times. There is no reason to fight with her nor is there a need to lie to her.” Carson continued to put away his Seraph Blade.  Skylar let herself fall on Carson’s bed and stare at the empty, white ceiling and wondered why Chloe had been eyeing her since the moment Carson had brought her in, watching her every move.
