Water Fate, No More

“You allowed this!” The Flame Fate hissed. The Water Fate shrugged and looked away. “It was allowed.” They replied dismissively. “Returning someone from the grave is NOT allowed!” The Flame Fate roared, the flames in front of them climbing higher as they became angrier. “Technically she was a lost soul, I didn’t actually return anyone from the dead.” The Water Fate argued weakly. “It is done now.” “It is not done.” The Air Fate replied harshly. “You know the fate for those who go against our laws!” “She gave her life to save her daughter. I thought that deserved something in return. She agreed to wander this world and not pass over until a child with powers that could handle her soul was born. She has earned this.” The Water Fate continued to argue stubbornly. “And how do we explain this if Morradin and the Goddesses find out?” The Air Fate asked. “Well, I don’t really see how they could find out but even if they do, we do not answer to them.” The Water Fate answered arrogantly. “We are answerable to our own laws you fool! Of course we will answer to them!” The Flame Fate roared furiously. “What happened to the childs own soul?” The Air Fate asked nervously. The Water Fate stared guiltily at the Air Fate. “Please tell me you did not remove the soul of an unborn child!” The Flame Fate could no longer contain their anger and their flames roared through the large cavern. “No, I did not do that.” The Water Fate looked at the Flame Fate like they were crazy for even suggesting it. “Then how?” The Flame Fate asked. Esmeralda and Will were only supposed to have one child. I merely gave them a second one….” The Water Fate shrugged. The Air and Flame Fates looked into the rock pools in front of them, watching Esmeralda and Wills struggles from the conception of their babies. “You did this?” The Air Fate whispered. “You created all of this heartache?” The Water Fate rolled their eyes. “I gave them two children.” They answered. “You gave the one who tried to kill another and has rained havoc down on everyone around her since her birth!” The Flame fate roared. “And look at the damage it did to the child intended for Will and Esmeralda, not to mention to Esmeralda’s health! You should be ashamed and instead you shrug it off like it is nothing.” “It is nothing!” The Water Fate sighed in exasperation. “Look at her, she is about to march on the vampire castle and return their two lost werewolves. They wouldn’t be doing that without her!” “So that is more fate your interference has redetermined! You do realise you are only digging a bigger hole for yourself do you not?” The Air Fate was getting as angry as the Flame Fate now. “You must answer for this!” The Flame Fate began. “You must answer for what you have done.” “Or, we can just let fate take its course.” The Water Fate smiled. “She is about to save the day!” “That is a life that should never have been brought into this world. There are always consequences of that.” The Air Fate reprimanded the Water Fate. “Whatever were you thinking?” The Air Fate looked into the whirlwind in front of them, worry written across their face. They watched as a not quite two year old Whitney climbed a winding staircase. At the top was a tower with a heavy door. The Air Fate could feel the magical locks and barriers. They closed their eyes and projected themselves from the cavern flying at speeds unfathomable without magic in their world. They arrived at the castle of King Jaime and let themselves in through an open window. They weaved their way through the castle until they found the staircase they had seen in their air images. They continued up the stairs, the ominous feeling getting heavier in the pit of their stomach. They stopped at the top of the staircase and peered through the open slot in the door. “Who is there?” A voice called out. The Fate did not answer but watched for a moment. “Tell me who is there! Is that you Whitney?” The voice asked. This was all the Fate needed to know. They projected themselves back to the cavern from which they had come. “Where did you go?” The Water Fate hissed nervously. The Flame Fate looked on with interest. “This is worse than we thought. The child knows of Isabella. Isabella used her name specifically.” The Air Fate looked apologetically at the Water Fate as she spoke. The Flame Fate nodded their head thoughtfully. “We all know what this means. Water Fate, second Fate of three. You are hereby banished from this cavern. You will shed your powers before you leave so that another may take up the mantle. “I deserve a trial!” The Water Fate screamed. “I have given up hundreds of years to this task! I demand a trial!” “And who do you propose we have as the jury? The Deity’s?” The Air Fate asked. “Air Fate, what say you?” The Flame Fate asked, looking over at them with their no nonsense, stone like face. “A trial is not an option. You bring disgrace upon us with your actions. A trial will merely bring what you have done out into the light, and we cannot have that. I second the motion that you be dismissed. You are no longer worthy of this task.” The Air Fate replied. “Then let it be done. Water Fate, shed your mantle and thereby remove your powers. Its is now your fate to wander the world with no memory of your past here in the cavern. The Water Fate stood and removed the mantle that lay across their shoulders. Two guards stood behind them and took the mantle, laying it in the now vacated seat. The Water Fate began the walk to the mouth of the cavern, as they did their body took on the colouring and form it had in the time before they were a Fate. As they stepped out into the sunlight they looked around. Where were they?
