"I Will Get Them Back"

Liam absently scratched at the sores on his arm before attempting to push his matted hair from his face. He had always kept it longish on top and pushed it back from his face but now it was just a matted mess that he wished he could shave off. “You ok brother?” He asked through the bars of the cell. “I can't do this anymore Liam. I’m going to let Eva turn me if she lets you go.” Jordan began coughing as he lay on his bed. “You will do no such thing. We leave together or not at all.” Liam repeated for what must have been the hundredth time. In the first year of their captivity, they had pushed themselves to work out and keep in shape. They wanted to be able to assist in the fight to escape. By the second year they had given up. Eva had boasted that Todd had been killed by Sergio and that had been the final straw. Jordan had begun talking about striking a deal with Eva for Liams freedom. At first it was relentless, but lately it had seemed he had even given up on that idea. He had given up on everything. They both jumped as the door to the dungeon opened. They did this every day and it was almost always just their meal being delivered. It was easy to lose track of time when there were no windows in the cell. They both sat up and watched as the interior door opened. Jordan groaned when he saw it was Eva. “Your friends are still hanging around I see.” She began feigning boredom as she sat on her usual chair. “My goodness, the two of you look terrible. I’m not sure those girls upstairs will be quite so interested in you now Liam.” Eva winked. “Did you bring food Eva? Cos if you didn’t, we have nothing more to discuss.” Liam said laying back down. “I am going to offer them a trade. Bastian for the two of you. Let’s see how important you really are to them.” She smirked as she got up and walked out. “Goddess I hate her.” Liam spat. “Oh, you have no idea.” Jordan groaned. Eva walked down the front steps of the castle and stood still, looking into the trees of the forest. The front of the castle had grown thick over the years with shrubbery and trees, nobody cared enough to tend to it. It gave Eva some measure of sick satisfaction to see the Werewolf castle destroyed. “I know you are there werewolves.” She called out. “Show yourselves!” “We don’t answer to you traitor!” One of the werewolves in human form roared. Several others in wolf form howled and bared their teeth. “Tell your council I propose a trade. Liam and Jordan for Bastian.” She declared grandly. “Show us proof of life.” The werewolf boomed. Eva turned around and walked inside. Moments later she returned, parading Liam and Jordan behind her in chains. “There is your proof. Tell them I will be here tomorrow night. If they wish to see these two again they will bring Bastian.” With that Eva turned and walked inside, the vampires holding the chains dragging Liam and Jordan along behind them. Just before they walked inside Liam turned and looked at the men and wolves standing there watching. He began to shake his head. “Don’t do it!” he screamed before being forced inside. One of the vampires picked up the end of the chain and struck Liam across the face, busting open his eye which began to swell immediately. Liam laughed as he staggered back into the castle. Lachlan was sitting before the fire in the small cottage he shared with Miranda and Whitney when the voice rang through in his head. “Boss, we saw Liam and Jordan. The traitor is proposing a trade. The two of them for Bastian she said.” Lachlan’s eyes widened in alarm. “You saw my son?” He whispered in his head. “I did sir. He has held up alright, but he is weak and has clearly lost his healing powers.” “Then he will not hold up ok for much longer.” Lachlan replied. “Straight to the Fae castle with you, do not rest until you arrive.” “We leave immediately.” The man replied. After Lachlan’s memory had returned, he learned that he could mind link with Todd. He quickly did this now. “Todd, my men have news of Liam and Jordan.” He began. Lachlan could feel the raw emotion in Todd’s voice as he replied. “Good news?” “They are alive son.” Lachlan replied. He hadn’t been prepared for the wave of emotion that came from Todd. Even through the mind link he could feel it. “Goddess.” He whispered. “Bring everyone to the Fae castle. We have 24 hours before the traitor wants an answer.” Lachlan replied. “Answer to what?” Todd asked suspiciously. “She wants to trade them for Bastian.” Lachlan closed the link and looked at Miranda and Whitney who were sitting together at the table doing a puzzle Amelia and Todd had brought for them. Miranda looked up from the puzzle in surprise. One look at Lachlan’s face and she knew what had happened. “Liam?” She asked, tears running down her face. “He is alive Love.” Lachlan smiled. “He has been seen by my men.” “But?” She whispered. “They want to trade the boys for Bastian.” “They want their vampire back. I don’t see the problem.” Miranda began. “Bastian is not being held as a prisoner; he is in the Fae castle under their protection.” Lachlan began. “Protection from who?” Miranda asked. “The vampires.” Lachlan answered. “We will come with you. With Magnus and Lola gone they will need all the magical folk they can get, even if I can’t do much.” Miranda sighed. Whitney rolled her eyes. With the flick of her hand a portal appeared in their living room. As they watched in terror, Magnus and Lola emerged as if in a daze. Miranda jumped up and ran to Lola, hugging her. “It’s so good to see you!” She smiled. “How?” Lola began, looking around the room until her eyes fell on Whitney. Miranda could feel her begin to shake as she looked at Whitney in terror. Whitney flicked her hand again and the portal disappeared. All four adults were now staring at her in shock while she continued with her puzzle. “Are you ok?” Lachlan asked. They both nodded. Whitney looked up from her puzzle. “Are we going then?” she asked. “She speaks?” Lola asked. “A lot!” Lachlan laughed. “How are we going to get there?” Miranda asked. “I can make a portal.” Whitney offered. “I uh, I’m not sure where my powers are at.” Magnus began. “Where have you been?” Lachlan asked. “Nowhere. I can’t describe it. It’s like we have been aware of each other but unable to touch or see.” Magnus shrugged. “Like me and Wyatt?” Whitney asked pointedly. “Ok, we need to move.” Lachlan said desperately. “I’ll saddle horses.” Whitney rolled her eyes again. She flicked her fingers and a portal appeared. Magnus and Lola stepped back away from it. “I’ll go first.” Whitney said and before they could stop her, she walked through the portal. Miranda ran in after her and everyone else followed. They arrived at the Fae castle as others were arriving through the various portals from the different realms. Whitney stood, looking around the room. “Whitney!” Amelia cried as she moved across the room to the little girls side, dropping to her knees and offering her open arms for a hug. Whitney looked for a moment, then seemed to recognise it was from real affection and walked into her auntie’s arms. “Look at you!” Amelia gushed, looking around for Todd. Todd saw and rushed over, picking Whitney up and swinging her around. “I heard you got a puppy!” Todd said excitedly. “Who told you?” Whitney asked suspiciously. “Your Aunt Rose. Do you know what kind of dog they got you?” Todd asked. Whitney shook her head. “It’s called a Maremma and they can grown to be as big as your Aunt Amelia!” Todd said winking at Miranda and Lachlan. “They what?” Miranda asked looking at Rose and Sabrina who shrugged and smiled. Todd pulled out his phone and began showing Whitney how big they can get. Whitney squealed excitedly and clapped her hands as the dogs on the screen seemed to get bigger and bigger. Whitney stopped looking at the screen as something across the room got her attention. Esmeralda and Will had just walked through one of the portals with James, Matilda and Mack. “Where is Wyatt?” She asked bluntly. “Wyatt doesn’t cope to well with big gatherings Whitney. If your parents had brought him he would have screamed and cried the whole time. Judging by who is missing I would say he is with Merridy and Dr Michaels.” Amelia answered. “He is weak.” Whitney’s voice was still blunt. “He is not as strong as you, sometimes there is a difference.” Todd smiled as he lifted her up onto his shoulders. He carried her to the table where everyone was finding a seat. “I think I will sit with my parents Uncle Todd.” Whitney said as she climbed down off her uncles’ shoulders. She walked around to Will and Esmeralda who were sitting there stunned and climbed onto her mother’s lap. Esmeralda let out a long breath as she fought back her tears. “How is my brother?” Whitney asked. “Well, he is doing better Whitney.” Will began. “I heard he stood up.” Whitney continued relaxing back into her mothers arms. “He did.” Will smiled proudly. “Would you like to see?” Whitney nodded as Will pulled out his phone to show Whitney the video of Wyatt standing. “Did his puppy help him?” Whitney asked. “We think so.” Esmeralda smiled. “I called my puppy Wyatt. He helps me stay calm.” Whitney said, looking at Will. ‘Well, I am very glad to hear that.” Will smiled, rubbing his thumb over her cheek. “When I fix this, can I visit Wyatt?” Whitney asked. “Of course you can.” Esmeralda smiled. “We will bring this meeting to order!” Otis called. Just as everyone began to quieten down the guards marched in with 3 men. Lachlan stood and walked around the table, hugging the biggest one. “Rohan, how are you old friend?” He asked. “Good, we are all good Boss.” He smiled. “What news?” Lachlan asked as he gestured towards 3 empty seats. They sat and looked around the table. “Are you hungry friend?” Robert asked. “Indeed sir, we ran all night.” Rohan answered. Robert turned to the guard. “Do you mind asking for food? Everything we have.” Robert asked. The guard bowed and left the room. “We were on patrol last night and the traitorous..” “Rohan, children.” Lachlan interrupted. Rohan nodded. “The traitorous swine walks out the front door of the castle likes she’s the damn queen. She calls out to us, and we come forward. She tells us she will trade the two boys for Bastian.” Rohan finished. “How did they look?” Sabrina asked with a sob. Rohan looked at Sabrina. “Are you Liam’s wife?” he asked. “I am.” Sabrina nodded. “Then I’m going to be honest with you as you deserve. He doesn’t look great. He doesn’t seem to have the ability to heal anymore. Young Jordan has a rather nasty cough and looks very pale. I don’t know how they survived this far but I wouldn’t hold out much hope if we don’t make the trade.” Rohan shrugged. Sabrina and Rose wept as they held each other. Lachlan nodded. “So we trade.” He shrugged. “Wait Lachlan, it’s not that easy.” Amelia began. “How is it not easy? He is a vampire, return him to his kind.” Lachlan replied. “Out of the question!” Ailwyn shouted, standing up. Sabrina stood and looked around the table, her eyes ablaze with fury. “If he were a king there would be no questions asked.” She roared banging her hand on the table. Olga and Lydia looked at Todd and Lachlan and nodded. Lydia stood up looking around the table. “You will treat Liam as you would treat one of the kings.” She began slowly. Everyone began speaking at once and causing a terrible commotion. Whitney looked around with interest then suddenly clicked her fingers. Everyone in the room except her and Lydia stopped as if frozen in place. “Continue.” Whitney said with a regal wave. “They can hear you.” Lydia nodded and looked around the table at the eerily still bodies. “It has been brought to our attention that Lachlan is the older brother of Aldrich and therefore Liam is heir to the throne.” She said quietly looking around the table. “Uhh, could you unfreeze Todd and Lachlan dear?” She asked Whitney. Whitney nodded and clicked her fingers. Lachlan and Todd stood and looked around. “It is the truth.” Todd began. “I have no desire for the crown if we ever can return to the castle. I wish only a quiet life for myself and my family. Whether Liam contests the crown will be up to him.” Lachlan nodded and sat down. “And I will not fight Liam for the throne if he desires it.” Todd said before sitting down. “You can unfreeze them now dear.” Lydia smiled at Whitney. Whitney nodded and clicked hr fingers again. Everyone regarded Whitney with a little fear. “This is important to you?” She asked Lachlan and Miranda. They both nodded. “I will get them back.” She shrugged. “Can you do that?” Sabrina asked. “Of course,” Whitney frowned.
