"We're Nearly There Brother"

Eva looked herself up and down.. With the help of Sergio and Valentina she had taken to having them create portals into the homes of the rich and the famous to lift clothing from their wardrobes. She hadn’t really learned a lot about celebrities in the short time she had been in the village and she didn’t have the means to follow them in this world, but she sure did like their clothing. She looked around the old and crumbling castle. Perhaps she could just have Sergio and Valentina portal her into banks to take enough money to buy herself one of those fancy houses they lived in. It would be much nicer than living here. Sergio and Valentina had suggested moving the portal each night so that the humans they took or turned were not always from the same place. They had laughed at the sloppiness of Hadley. Using the same city had brought in the Hunters and the werewolves had been on patrol, killing the vampires. The vampires in the castle did not respect her, not one of them. Not even the ones she had personally turned. They didn’t respect the Generals and they did not respect Hadley. They simply didn’t know what else to do. She had been directed to continue to build their army but even she could see this wasn’t working. She needed warriors, fighters who would bring strength to their kind. All they had now were young desperate to find Rose or return home. They young vampires were turning themselves over to the Hunters and asking to be taken to Rose. “AAArrgghhh Rose.” She muttered as she added a little more mascara to her eyelashes. She was furious Jordan still pined for Rose. He had fought her for two years on letting her turn him. He had become strong after his time with the werewolves of Todd’s pack, and she knew they could be a power couple in the vampire world. She reapplied her lipstick and took one final look at herself in the mirror before walking out of the door. Sergio and Valentina were waiting in the lounge for her. Sergio still walked with a limp after Amelia had slashed his leg. They had been very quiet over the last two years, often refusing to do more than open portals. They had refused another attempt to take Bastian from the Fae castle. She made her way down to the cellar and through the door. She had decided to try another tactic with Jordan and leave him for months at a time with no contact. With only Liam to speak to, she had hoped he would turn to her for company. It had not worked. “Get up!” she roared as she looked at them in disgust. The dungeon absolutely stank of damp and mould and human excrement. She had not allowed scissors or razors or anything that could be used as a weapon. They ate all their meals with their hands and used a bucket in the corner of their cells as a toilet. With no windows the smell had nowhere to go. She had been aware at times the guards had thrown the toileting buckets back on the two men and laughed. The Alpha and the Beta who had fallen from grace. Eva could see they were broken. The bodies had wasted away, the rippling muscles she had once enjoyed on Jordan were long gone. She could see bones protruding through his skin. His head would need to be shaved and she had never seen him so white. She felt a sudden pang of guilt for what she had done to him. She had degraded and humiliated him, but in her mind, it was still not as painful as what he had done to her. Replacing her with Rose as his Luna had been humiliating for her. She had lost everything. The guards came through with chains and shackles and bound them both. The two men painfully got to their feet. Liam’s face was badly disfigured from being hit with the chain the night before and they could barely shuffle up the stairs. At the top of the stairs one of the guards jerked the chains and the two men fell to the ground. The guards and Eva laughed raucously. “I wonder what your little Rose is going to think of you now. I’m looking forward to watching the look of revulsion on her face when she sees you for the first time.” Eva said, smirking at Jordan. “Rose is his mate Eva, she will only see the love of her life.” Liam hissed. “Of course, you wouldn’t know about that would you.” He smirked in return. Eva looked up at the guard who held the left over length of chain and nodded. The guard raised the chain and brought it down over the back of Liam’s head. Liam staggered forward unconscious, bringing Jordan down with him. “Enough Eva!” Jordan roared, using all of the strength he had left. The guard went to strike Liam again and Jordan rolled to cover his defenceless friend. The chain came down on his back, leaving a large open welt. “Jordan gritted his teeth, determined not to show the pain he was in. “One day you will pay for this Eva. I promise you, you will pay and it will be by my hand.” “Of course it will.” Eva waved dismissively as Jordan fell back over Liam. “What do we do with them now Miss?” The guard asked. “A bucket of cold water should fix that.” Eva smiled. The guard nodded and turned to retrieve a bucket of water. “Things could have been so different for us.” Eva purred as she crouched down beside Jordan. “I could have killed Hadley and the Generals, and we could have ruled over this castle and the vampires. It could have been a fresh start.” “I would rather die than spend another second with you.” Jordan spat weakly. The pain he was feeling was so intense he could barely lift his head. “And what if Rose was no longer a problem?” Eva whispered. Jordan struggled to look at Eva. “What are you playing at?” He asked. “I could have her killed my love. I can make anything happen. Say the word and she is gone, and we can move forward together.” Eva murmured seductively. “The mate bond will be broken, and we can be together again.” “Eva, I hate you with every fibre of my being. You could kill Rose and I would only hate you more.” Jordan snarled, now completely fed up with the conversation. “Please just leave me alone and get on with the trade.” The guard returned with the bucket of water and threw it over Jordan and Liam. Jordan absorbed most of it across the welt on his back and roared in pain. Liam slowly began to regain consciousness. “We’re nearly there brother. Just hold on a little longer.” Jordan whispered as they both sat up. Liam nodded and reached out his hand to Jordan who grasped it and held on to it tightly.
