Chapter seven: An unexpected visitor

    Before grandpa and I even make it back to the house Talon is speaking in my head. “Someone is coming Aria get on my back!”  I don't even think before I take off running and jump on Talons back before my grandpa even knows what's going on. “What's going on Aria?” He turns and asks right as we see a white dragon flying towards us. In the blink of an eye my grandpa is on Flynn, ice sword in hand. “You stay here Aria, Ill see who it is.” He says and takes off into the sky. I hear my parents running from the house towards us. Before I can even say anything to them Talon turns and growls out. “Get back in the house.” My parents eyes grow large but they do as he says thankfully. “Talon has Flynn said anything?” I ask. “It is Aiken.”  Is all he replies. I try and remember the name but I just can't. Then it hits me, Aiken is the dragon that dropped me off here when I was a baby. I straighten up as I watch my grandpa and Aiken come flying back to us. 

Once both dragons land I realize that Talon is bigger than both the dragons. The white dragon is beautiful but I can see the sadness in his eyes. “Hello Aria, I am Aiken. I was your mothers dragon.” He says and bows to me. “Was?” I aks while looking at him. “She passed away the night I dropped you off here. The only reason I'm alive is because of you. I fought through it all so that I could be here to help you.” He says and I can't help the pain that I feel. Aiken goes to take a step forward and Talon lets loose a growl and Aiken stops. “I mean her no harm Talon, you know this. I am only here because you have to come home now. I know I had said 21 but we need you, we need a leader.” Aiekn says and I am speechless. “This is really sudden, what so you think about this Talon?” I ask him. “This is what we were born to do, we have to Aria. It's our people.” Talon gives the answer I figured he would and then stands a little taller. “I will go, but I want my Grandpa to come with me to help me adjust.” I say and look over to the older man. I probably should have ran this by him but I didn't want to go alone. “Oh, I don't know that Aria. I haven't been home in years.” He responds. I just shake my head. “Please, I can't go and have no one I know.” He looks between everyone and nods. “Yes my queen.” He responds and him and Flynn bow to me and Talon. I quickly nod then turn to Aiken. “When do we leave?” I ask, knowing it would be soon. “As soon as you can get your things together.” Aikens inhuman voice answers my question and I nod then head inside. 

    As soon as I step through the door my mother wraps me in a hug. “Honey, we knew this day would come but I thought we had a couple more years!” The tears are streaming down her face. “Oh I'm going to miss you something terrible.” I hug her back and I feel the tears start falling down my face also. Next is my dad. He feels he has to be the strong one. I know that but I can see the tears about to fall. “Aria, my baby girl. I know you are going to make a wonderful and beautiful queen. You go and take care of business! Do not let anyone take you down because that is yours and Talons rightful places. He nods as if talking to himself but I know what he means. I was born to be queen, my mother gave her life for me and I don't take that lightly I squeeze my father into a bone crushing hug then rush to my things and start throwing my things in a brown sack. I dont figure I will need dresses but I take my fanciest ones anyway. I grab my sketch book and a few valuables my parents had given me, then I am walking out. “I will take your dog, my queen.” I hear Aiken say as he bites to hold on to the burlap sack that holds my few belongings. I slowly climb onto Talon and look back at my parents. My mother is crying into my dad's shoulder and my dad has the proudest look on his face. He nods to me and I smile back before I look at my grandpa. “Are we ready to go home?” I ask and a huge smile lightens his face. “Yes, yes we are.” He says and then we all take off into the sky. It was daylight and I had never really flown during the day but it was beautiful. As we get ready to fly over Damon's family's farm my chest aches some. I can't help but look as we fly over and I see him outside staring up at us. I do a small wave but I know he can't see it. We continue our flight well into the night. “Go To sleep Ar, i'll wake you when we get there.” I hear Talon say in my mind and I just nod and lay across his back trusting him. 

    I don't even know how long I was asleep when Talon woke me up. “We are almost there. Ar wake up, you need to look strong, impressions matter.” I rub my eyes and moan and I hear Aiken chuckle. I slowly sit up and look over to see my grandpa smiling at me. “We are here.” I can hear Aiken rumble. I start looking around but see nothing then out of nowhere two dragons and riders fly at us with swords drawn and I stiffen. “Do not let them see fear, just relax. This is your kingdom.” I hear Talon sooth in my mind and my body does as he says. “Hello Aiken, who are your friends?” I hear one of the guys ask. I assume they are guards. I can see their dragons lowering their heads to Talon and I can help but smile. As the men turn to look at talon and I, I can see it all click for them. “Is this, is this her?” One asks and can't help the small stutter in his voice. Aiken does a head jerk thing I can only assume is a nod. “It is a pleasure my queen.” They say in unison and I nod back at them and Talon rumbles. Their dragons are large but have nothing on Talon and that makes me smile to myself also. 

    We continue flying through a town that dwarfs my only one I had only seen once and I can't keep my eyes from bugging out a small bit. Then out of nowhere on a hill is a huge castle that I can't help but gawk at. “I-i-is that ours Tal?”  I hear him laugh in my head. “Yes, yes it is.” I look over at my grandpa and he is smiling ear to ear and I can't help but follow suit. We land gracefully on a perfectly manicured lawn and I look around. I see the large doors of the castle swing open and out runs and a girl about my age in a light blue skirt swinging around her legs. “Aiken! You're back! Thank goodness it has been quiet! Is this her?!” She asks and starts over to me but not before Talon and Flynn both let out fierce growls and she stops. Almost as if just noticing Talon she looks him up and down. “Good lord this is your dragon? He is massive! God look at that monster!” She says her eyes about to pop out of her head. I slide down off of Talon and walk around to meet this girl who talks a lot. “Im Aria.” I say and stick my hand out, “Oh I know who you are Miss.” Then she squirts and gives me a hug. “Oh we are going to be the bestest of friends! I'm Gabby! I'm going to teach you everything about being a queen!” Then she grabs my hand and starts dragging me inside. I hear the growl from behind me and know Talon is pissed about the situation but he will be okay. “Tal im okay if something happens I will let you know.” I say in my mind to him and get a grunt in response.
