MATT DREADED AN ENTIRE afternoon and evening alone with Nora. He longed to be with her, and yet, knowing that Nora didn’t want to talk to him made his chest ache.
Becka had asked to take Nat with her until the next day and assured Matt that she had cleared everything with Nora. Matt still checked with Nora, and that made Becka growl at him, which cheered Nat considerably.
They were just about to go home, and the boy didn’t want to go inside. He would have preferred to run along the harbor.
Marjorie had wanted to accompany Matt at home. He had sensed it. Yet, Becka took her hand and invited Marjory to see the twins. Matt couldn’t compete with the twins those days. Soon, his mother sauntered to Becka’s car and left with her.
