"Why now?" She asked, eyes glimmering with unshed tears, because she knew why. She felt why. And she wanted it just as much.

"Because," Her counterpart replied with that trademark smirk and wildly tousled hair. "We've waited forever already, I think it's about time we make forever ours."

"I'm all yours."
“You’re so annoying.” “No, I’m not.” “You are, get off me,” Whit pushed the younger girl off her as she wiped the sleep from her eyes. She heard Megan’s light chuckle and shot a glare at her best friend, wishing she’d just once take into consideration that Whit enjoyed her sleep and it was precious to her. “You’re so lucky Sienna’s so trusting.” “You haven’t seen me for two months and this is how you greet me?” “I would have greeted you in a nicer way if I wasn’t woken up by you literally jumping on me.” Whitney rolled her eyes but she couldn’t fight the smile as she saw the goofy smile settle on her best friend’s lips. God, she’d truly missed the brunette beyond words.  Megan Chase, her best friend since the day she’d pushed a boy over in kindergarten because he’d been tugging at Megan’s hair. Megan Chase, the girl she would so easily take a bullet for that it scared the hell out of her.  Megan Chase, the girl who had moved to an entirely different state with her parents and left Whitney somewhat of a mess in her wake. Megan Chase, the one person Whitney Knowles knew would remain in her life for as long as each would have the other.  “Get up,” The younger girl ushered quickly, a lot more energised than her recently-woken counterpart. “I want to go see Sienna, I think I’ve missed her more than I’ve missed you.” “You’re trying to steal my girlfriend.” “Wouldn’t be hard,” The brunette winked. “Look at me, I’m stunning.” “Give me ten minutes to actually make myself look like a functioning human being.” Whitney pushed the shorter girl out of her room. “And keep thoughts of stealing my girlfriend out of your mind.” “You brought it up.” “You added to it, you’re supposed to reject the idea.” “Have you seen Sienna? She’s too good for you.” “Out. Now.” Whitney feigned a glare and shut the door in her friend’s face before turning to her wardrobe, knowing full well that she only had those requested ten minutes before the vivacious brunette burst through her door again. She reached for her phone and sent her girlfriend a message warning her that they’d be there soon and that Megan was in a particularly energetic mood. Sienna, as usual, was more prepared for the brunette’s vigorous energy and assured Whitney that she would be ready for whatever Megan would throw at her.  Adding yet another reason why Whitney loved her girlfriend. It had been the most important thing to her; that her partner and her best friend got along. She never wanted to have to choose between them but she never had to, not when Megan practically forced Sienna to be her friend and Sienna did not put up much of a fight at all.  Whitney went about her morning routine faster than usual, trying with all her might to tame her unruly black tresses but knowing they’d settle in a mess of waves down her back. She added minimal make-up to accentuate her vivid green eyes and when she deemed herself as ready as she could be in the time she’d been granted, she began making her way downstairs only to find Megan stealing a piece of bacon from her father’s plate with little to no stealth at all.  The Knowles patriarch shot the brunette a glare before greeting his daughter for the morning, drawing Shalene Knowles’ attention to her daughter making an entrance as well. “I thought we would be rid of this one for a little longer?” The mother gestured to Megan as she chomped at the stolen piece of bacon.  “She’s addicted to me, it’s not my fault.” Whit put her hands up defensively as she approached her mother, kissing the woman’s cheek as she grabbed at the spare piece of toast on the woman’s plate. “You two are as bad as the other.” Shalene flicked her daughter’s arm. Whit made her way over to her friend seated at the dining table, draping her tattooed covered arms around her neck and letting her chin rest on the younger girl’s shoulder. “I warned Si that we’d be stopping by.” “I need to come with a warning now?” Megan feigned offense in her tone. “You’ve always needed to come with a warning label.” “I resent that.” “Hurry up,” Whitney stood up and ushered her friend to do the same. “You’re probably only here for a few days, no time to waste time.” “God,” Megan looked to the parents. “I swear it’s starting to sound like she’s missed me.” The pair made their way out of the house and towards the bike Whitney’s parents despised and their daughter swore to be her pride and joy. Whit tossed her spare helmet over to her best friend before slipping her own over her head and jumping on the bike with ease.  “You do know this is still too hot, right?” Megan paused for a moment as she looked her friend over. “Like, Sienna must count her lucky stars every night.” “Says the girl who swears by her heterosexuality,” Whitney scoffed. “Get on.” “I’m straight, not blind, idiot.” Megan tossed her leg over the back and settled against her friend comfortable, slipping her arms around Whitney’s torso. Within seconds, the pair were travelling with the wind through their hair as they made their way across town. Megan made a point to jab Whitney in the side playfully as they rode past their old high school to which the older girl simply rolled her eyes. They’d graduated the year prior together, right before Megan and her family uprooted their entire life after finding out that her grandmother would need around the clock care.  Needless to say, the Knowles family offered to have Megan stay with them for as long as she wanted or at least until she jetted off to college but Whitney knew better than to expect her friend to stay behind. Megan loved her family far too much to even imagine living that far away from them. She was sure that Megan would probably move into the house right beside her parents one day. She used to mock the girl for it often but she also understood, she, herself, couldn’t imagine going through life without keeping her parents close.  They pulled up outside of Sienna’s familiar two-storey house with the brunette already waiting for both girls on the porch.  Megan was first off the bike before Whitney even had a chance to stabilise it and the older girl was sure to curse her friend out for it but simply shook her head as she watched Megan jump into Sienna’s arms and place a firm kiss on the girl’s cheek before releasing her moments later.  The black-haired girl approached her girlfriend in a far calmer matter and greeted her with a soft kiss before her best friend attacked her by jumping on her back.  “I’m glad California hasn’t made you all boring and mature.” Sienna poked at Megan’s side. “Boring and mature? Couldn’t be me.” The youngest girl wiggled around for Whitney to release her legs and decided to walk between the pair up to the house. “We heading to Brisky’s?” Sienna’s honey-brown eyes found her girlfriend’s. “I could eat.” “You could always eat.” Whitney scoffed to her best friend. “I’ll just grab my keys,” Sienna ushered the pair in and called out to her mother that the two girls were in the house.  Gabby Martel made her way into the entry room and greeted each of the girls with a hug. She spied another addition to Whitney’s array of tattoos and shot the girl a playful glare. The mother had never made it a secret that she disapproved of the tattoos. In fact, she hadn’t been much of a fan of Whitney at all in the beginning. Sienna was always her timid daughter until the pair met and then the girl found her voice, got a couple of piercings and gained a confidence that caught the mother by surprise but she came to love.  In the end, Gabby concluded that perhaps Whitney had been the exact influence her daughter needed to speak up about things she was passionate about.  Sienna made her way back to everyone, jingling her keys playfully and kissing her mom on the cheek before leading the two girls back out of the door. “I know she still likes me more than you.” Megan taunted her best friend in regards to the look Gabby had given the raven-haired girl. “She doesn’t see you enough to know how annoying you are.” Whitney scoffed as her girlfriend tossed the keys to her Jeep over to her. Sienna would take any opportunity to not have to drive.  “So when are you two getting married?” Megan slipped into the car and poked her head between the seats and the two other girls took their seats in the front.  “First up, we’re nineteen and secondly, f**k marriage, she knows she’s stuck with me.” Whitney smirked over to her girlfriend. “I still have every right to opt out.” Sienna sent a daring smirk back.  “No you don’t,” Megan stuck her tongue out at her fellow brunette. “You two are meant to be.” “Tell that to literally everyone that sees you two together.” The older brunette pointed between the two best friends.  “Ew,” The youngest girl in the car scrunched her nose in disgust as she looked to the driver. “She drools in her sleep.” “That’s you, asshole!” Whitney made a point to slap behind her seat until she hit her friend’s leg successfully. “Prove it.” Megan grinned victoriously when she caught Whit rolling her eyes.  “Yeah, I have nothing to worry about.” Sienna scoffed, smiling in amusement at the pair’s antics. “There’s a boy that’s been trying to take me out,” Megan decided to disclose after a few moments of silence. “He’s kinda older though but he seems cool.” “Yeah? Does he know you’re a walking, talking alarm clock? A head case in its purest form? That annoying ringing after a siren goes off?” Whitney pulled the car into the familiar parking lot. “You could try not being rude, it’s a good idea.” Megan sneered at the raven-haired girl. “Besides, he can’t know that until he’s fallen head-over-heels in love with me because then he’ll just accept it and move on.” “You’re trapping this man.” Sienna slipped out of the car chuckling. “Isn’t that what she did with you?” The younger brunette looked between the coupled pair. “I mean, I guess she did, yeah,” The oldest of the trio tucked her arm through the raven-haired girl’s arm. “But she actually turned out to be pretty cool later on anyways.” She lovingly gazed into the deep green eyes she was endlessly in love with. “Just because she has tattoos and rides a bike,” Megan scoffed. “Anyone could do that.” “You have a single dot tattooed on you because you freaked out too much to get what you actually wanted.” Whitney deadpanned. “And any time you sit on her bike, you almost always tip it. Zero sense of balance.” Sienna added on.  “Why do I bother visiting?” “Because you don’t want us heading to Cali and informing all your new friends what a geek you are.” “And because you love us.” Sienna added affectionately, tossing her spare arm around Megan’s neck as the trio made their way over to their favourite cafe.  Mags Brisk was the owner, an elderly woman that had used the money her late husband had left her to open a small cafe that Megan had worked at prior to leaving. The trio had been Mags’ most consistent customers and it was needless to say that Megan had been a stellar employee, always ensuring the customers left with a smile plastered to their faces for the rest of the day.  So upon seeing the small brunette’s beaming face, Mags left her station behind the counter and made her way over with open arms, hugging the girl to her tightly before pulling away and giving her a good once-over.  Given the chance at having her girlfriend to herself for a moment, Whitney hugged Sienna tighter to her side and pressed a kiss to the side of her head, loving the way she felt the older girl reciprocate the affection. It’d been three years and everything still felt so fresh between them. Whitney was sure she’d never lose excitement over the girl beside her.  Mags assured the girls that whatever they’d be having would be on the house ushered them to a table, however, Megan couldn’t help but give the person making their coffees a hard time, eyeing Mags’ with a knowing look. She grilled her replacement with questions until eventually Whitney had to drag her friend away and apologise for her behaviour.  “You’re a pest.” Whitney spoke over the top of her menu.  “You know Mags doesn’t have it in her to put them through the ringer,” The younger girl scoffed. “She seems...competent, I guess.” “She’s doing a better job than you ever did,” Sienna chuckled softly. “She’s actually working. All you ever did was gossip to customers about other customers and they’d end up forgetting what they wanted to order.” “I made coffees!” “They were awful.” Whitney rolled her eyes. “They were...shut up.” The youngest girl pulled the menu up in front of her face only to poke her head back out to talk to her friends. “So are you taking the night off to hang out with me?” Her deep, brown eyes were practically begging Whitney.  “I can’t, I already took a couple of nights off last week for our anniversary,” Whitney looked to Sienna. “I’ll make sure no one cards you.” “You know,” Megan eyed Sienna playfully. “You really got lucky with her, careful or I might steal her.” “And you could.” The oldest girl sighed dejectedly. “Shut up, no she couldn’t.” Whitney nudged her girlfriend before tossing her arm over her shoulder and kissing her cheek lovingly. “I’m all yours.” The raven-haired girl assured and then turned her eyes to her best friend. “As for you, stop stealing people. Get that, no doubt boring as hell, guy to whisk you off your feet.” “You know, I would,” The youngest brunette scoffed. “But as soon as he meets you, you’ll end up chasing him away.” “She’s right,” Sienna chuckled softly. “No one is ever good enough for Meg in your eyes.” “She dated a guy named Chad.” “He was nice!” Megan defended her actions quickly. “He picked his nose more than he paid for your dates.” Whitney leaned back in her seat and crossed her arms. “I’ve been protecting you my whole life, I’m not about to stop just because you think you’re all grown up now. You’re kind of the other half of my soul, idiot.” Sienna looked between the pair, watching as Megan melted at her best friend’s words, as was the way between the two, always. She’d accepted long ago that she would always come second to Megan, it was simply in Whitney’s nature. It was reflexive. Megan would always come first. But Sienna was selfish enough not to let that deter her love, because every moment spent with Whitney felt like a lifetime, so she was taking her small eternities for as long as she’d be granted them.
