Chapter 6: Away from home

1553 Words
Peony went straight to Jessica's house, her friend. Jessica must have been very surprised to see Peony at her house, ah, is her friend at home? Jessica must be working, Peony thought again. But, it's useless just letting Arion go home and not find himself at home. While heading to Jessica's house, Peony could only cry uncontrollably. He doesn't even want to interact with anyone. Taxi drivers who understand are silent while focusing on driving. It didn't take long for Jessica to arrive at Peony's house, but no one was at her best friend's house. Because, Jessica must be working in the office. It was still 16.30, so Jessica would be home in about 30 minutes. It won't be long now, Peony thought. Hence, Peony waited at Jessica's doorstep. His best friend has lived independently for a long time, just as it seems that even though they are not native Koreans, they have been in this country for a long time since college. And Peony also knew Arion for a long time before deciding to marry the man, who also ended in betrayal. Peony wiped away her tears, it's no use crying anymore, she thought. Peony was getting bored, even though five minutes had passed. He wanted to cry out loud, and spill everything that was in his heart and mind. She called Jessica, hoping the woman on the other end picked up the call. “Hello,” Jessica answered on the other end. “Jes? Where are you? Haven't you come back from work yet?” asked Peony quickly. “Oh, Peony? Why girl? I'm in a meeting, a little late. Why? Are you crying?” asked Jessica because she accidentally heard that Peony's voice was hoarse. “Ah, no! What time did you come home? I just wanted to tell you a lot. I also have something to tell you. If you don't mind, I'll be waiting at your house.” “Oh, you don't have your house key, do you, dear? Can you wait? I might take a little longer. Around 20.00, I'll be home. For a moment, you can wait in front of the café, which is across the street from my residential complex,” Jessica said giving instruction. “Hmm, you just go to work first, I can take care of myself. Take it easy. No need to worry,” said Peony, reluctant to make Jessica worry. She knew that Jessica knew that she was crying even from yesterday. The woman would not stay silent, not only running away from the office and meeting room but also meeting Arion at the man's house and could have destroyed Arion instantly. Jessica is her best friend, she is good at defending herself, she even won karate and taekwondo martial arts when she was in elementary and middle school. Peony was very sure that if Arion met Jessica, Arion would surely be destroyed. “Are you sure it's okay if I stay late?” Jessica asked Peony. However, Jessica is also worried about her best friend. Because Peony is not usually like this. "Yes, it's okay Jess, I'll be alone. You take it easy,” Peony tried to convince Jessica because she would rather not interfere with her best friend's work. It also made Jessica worry about herself, who was too stupid, she thought. “All right, then I'll have a meeting first. You just wait, Peony.” As soon as Jessica ended her phone call, Peony immediately went to a café near Jessica's house. Even though it wasn't far, it was enough to make Peony walk while exercising too. But, this time, it didn't matter to Peony because it lightened a bit of the burden on her heart. Her mind was filled with strange scenes from Arion. Did Arion love his girlfriend? Enjoying how they are together? Had Arion had no feelings for her all this time? But, if not, why did Arion want to marry her? What had Arion been up to all this time? Many questions popped up in his head, but none of them could be answered with a clear head and a positive mind. Not long after, Peony arrived at a café that Jessica, her best friend, told her about. Ordered a cold drink to cool off his thoughts with a heart that had been cold from earlier. Meanwhile, Jessica seemed to be wondering to herself why Peony seemed to have lost her zest for life when talking to her. His best friend is not usually lethargic like that, he thought. Even meetings that should be calm and answered with arguments turned into daydreams for Jessica. Jessica? Call his boss and also the head manager who is like a big brother to him. “Ah, yes sir?” Jessica nodded. “What are you nodding at?” “Ah, that--” she was cut off until Marie's touch on his arm made Jessica wake up. “Sorry ma'am,” said Jessica with a respectful nod to Marie. “What happened Jess?” “Nothing,” Jessica replied quickly. Before Marie could respond to Jessica's words, someone interrupted Marie's words. “Let's rest for a while. 30 minutes is enough for the next meeting. It's already 6:30 p.m., at 7:00 p.m. we are back in a meeting, so you guys will go home at 9:00 p.m., so don't refute.” The boss also prepared to leave the meeting room, and turned his head again to see his two workers who were actually more diligent and good at working more than anyone else. “Marie, Jessica, come with me!!” He said as an order. Then the two people will not refute anymore. Gabriel, is their boss. Although Marie is the head manager as well as his confidant, Jessica is also among the employees that Gabriel takes care of, not only as an employee but also as a woman. He had approached the woman a long time ago, just not showing much that Gabriel was interested. He only approached as an employee and friend. For him, for now, enough was enough, before Jessica realized her feelings, Gabriel didn't want to move too hard. “What's the matter, you two? Why busy ourselves when we are in a meeting?” Gabriel flipped over as soon as he heard footsteps approaching his desk. “Sorry sir, you didn't mean it,” Marie lowered her head and nudged Jessica's arm to follow her even though they both knew Gabriel, even Marie's husband was very familiar with Gabriel, still that Gabriel was her boss in the office. “Sorry sir, I made a mistake.” “I know that you guys can have problems. But don't take it to the office. Remember that,” Gabriel warned the two. “Sorry sir, we won't make any mistakes next,” Marie said, helping Jessica, after all, Jessica was like her sister. And the woman also knew that her boss, Gabriel, liked Jessica. “If there is a concern, don't take it to the office. You can get out now,” he said quickly, after giving the two trusted employees a little direction. The two left Gabriel's room, but it wasn't until Jessica's door was called again. “Jess,” “Yes, sir?” “You have a problem?” Gabriel always asks that not only because he likes Jessica, but because he cares about all his employees, including Jessica. “Ah, no, sir. It's just--” “Just go home then, then you don't focus here. But you have to be responsible for presentations tomorrow and next Sunday with important clients.” Jessica felt misheard when Gabriel said that, but finally, she realized that Gabriel really said it and wasn't joking. “Seriously, sir?” he asked once more, after seeing Gabriel's nod, Jessica finally moved on. Meanwhile, Peony, who had returned to Jessica's house, but the person still hadn't returned home, was waiting at the door, hoping that Jessica would come home soon. While waiting for Jessica, it turned out that there was a call from Arion. Peony snored, eager to slam her phone because she saw Arion's name on her phone. She hoped that the man would soon realize that Peony already knew her ugliness. But, as it turns out, not really. Peony couldn't help but pick up the call. “Hello,” she greeted. “Where are you?” asked Arion. “Didn't Drake tell you?” asked Peony, who felt confused. “I have, but I can't believe you just left not waiting for me to come home,” Arion uttered as if there was no burden, and Peony felt that Arion was acting so as not to get caught. “When will you go home?” asked Peony “Tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow?” Arion seemed to confirm the answer with another question, instead of giving a definite answer. “You didn't say you would go home today Arion, why did you bother to be disappointed, and instead question me?” Peony was obviously annoyed to hear that. “Ah, alright Peony, we'll talk as soon as you get home?” Arion immediately disconnected his call without giving Peony a chance to run again. “You bastard!” Peony Ruffled with hateful eyes at his mobile phone.
