CHAPTER SIX

Julian's pov My eyes popped open when my mother said those words. I immediately blamed Jarvis for his inability to keep a secret. I didn't want my grandmother to know about the circumstances with which I met Arianna. I didn't want Arianna to feel uncomfortable because my grandmother can be so blunt and she doesn't consider people's feelings sometimes. Who could blame her? She lost her son to a car accident and she had to step in as the chair lady of our conglomerate empire. She had to raise me also. She was a tough woman but sometimes she was too tough. "Grandma," I called out, giving her a pleading gaze. "What's with the look?" My grandmother glared at me nonchalantly. "We are all adults and it's not a new thing anyway." She hissed. I blinked my eyes in confusion when my grandmother flashed a smile to Arianna. "My dear I'm so glad to finally meet you." She said, I could tell Arianna was taken aback she wasn't expecting such a reaction from my grandmother. "Me..too." Arianna stuttered in confusion. "I'm really glad that this boy has decided to bring a woman home." She confessed. I rolled my eyes in embarrassment as my grandmother didn't waste any effort to expose me to Arianna. "Really?" Ariana arched a brow as she turned to me. "Yes, dear. I set up so many blind dates but he barely attends them but seeing you I finally understand." She explained. My grandmother turned her gaze to me then she slapped the back of my head. "Grandma, it hurts," I exclaimed, holding my head. "If you knew you were going to bring a wife home you should have said so." Grandma hissed with disdain. "I spent so much money trying to hook you up with someone. Do you know how expensive it was to set up those blind dates?" Grandma fumed. "Since you knew it was so expensive you shouldn't have bothered. I told you I wasn't interested in those women." I mumbled quietly. "You are an ungrateful boy." Grandma raised her hand to hit me again but I quickly held her hand together. "Grandma calm down. Do you want to embarrass me in front of my wife?" I mumbled. "What's there to hit besides she is already a member of this family so it's natural for her to know how things work," Grandma said. "It's time she learned how to handle a stubborn man like you." She smirked. It warmed my heart to see Arianna bursting out with laughter. This was the first time I had seen this side of her and it was an amazing experience. I didn't want it to end. Due to her past relationship, it is going to be hard for her to open up herself to me but I am determined to make a difference. "Don't worry Grandma. I promise to take care of your grandson. I know how to handle him." Ariana said with a smile. "I already like her." Grandma nodded her head with a satisfied grin. "Wow, so this is how it is now. The two most important women in my life are plotting against me." I said. "You know I've always wanted a daughter but sadly Fate didn't smile upon me." My grandma said taking Ariana's hands and ignoring my existence. "It's wonderful that he found you." She said. Ariana returns her words with a warm smile. "Do you love my son?" Grandma threw the question and I noticed Arianna flinched for a moment. "He's the love of my life," Ariana replied. I knew my grandmother was up to something when she held a smirk on her face. Even though Grandma persuaded us to stay for dinner I hesitantly declined so we could leave early. I had a feeling she was so close to telling us to spend the night in the family house. A sign escapes Ariana's slips when we step back into the car. It was clear she was exhausted. "Are you okay?" I asked with concern. "I'm fine." She said with a stern expression. My heart slumped realizing she was back to being cold-hearted. "Thank you for meeting with my grandma and I apologize for the trouble," I said politely. "It's fine." She waved to me immediately. "I enjoyed my time with your grandma. As you said we are going to be married so it's natural I get acquainted with your family." Ariana flashed a small smile. It gladdened my heart that Ariana was finally acknowledging our marriage. "Why are you smiling?" She asked. "Don't get your hopes up. Everything is just strictly for business and nothing else so please don't misunderstand." She explained. "Yes ma'am," I said immediately. "Are you hungry? How about we go get something to eat before I drop? You're off at home." I offered. She paused to look at me for a moment, contemplating what to do before she answered. "I'll like that but I have to go home to meet my kids. The nanny will be leaving very soon." She said, staring down at her watch. When I heard her talk about the kids my heart leaped with joy but then I suddenly remembered that Ariana warned me that I wasn't able to see the kids until after the marriage. "Alright, I'll drop you off at home," I said with a heavy heart. She was the mother of my kids and she was the only one that single-handedly took care of them for three years. I haven't played any role in her life or the kids so there's no way I could lay claims or force myself on them. I was going to try my best and take things slow. I was already this close so exhibiting a little patience would not hurt. The only time I had seen what my kids looked like was from the photos taken at the airport. My heart longed to be with them and I knew soon we were going to be united. I dropped Ariana off at her place. I was about to take off in the car when she halted me. "Do you mind coming inside?" She asked. *****
