**Thalia
His kisses were so tender and calm, acting like ice to my soul. The way it soothed me was one I couldn't predict. His tongue deepened into my mouth as if in search of something, and I didn't even know when I responded to every inch of it; my eyes finally shut.
As he reached out for my palm, I let him hold me, and he rubbed his thumb on my skin. His cologne smelled so nice, and it was more like I tasted it from his lips.
Was I nuts or what?
The moment I realised what I was doing, I quickly pulled away from him and turned away, my chest beating hard like it was about to burst.
What did I just do? How dare I lose my guard like this so easily?
He would take me for granted, see me like something so cheap to get. How could I get so immersed in kissing someone I refused to touch me? I was so silly just now, and that doesn't sit well because he might start thinking differently about me.
I wiped my lips with the back of my palm, still unable to look at him.
“Thalia!”
I shook my head, "Please, I think you overstayed your welcome. Can you now start going? Are you not okay with everything already?”
Instead, he shifted so close, and there was no space between us. He put his arms at my side and wrapped them around me. I thought that was all, not until I felt his kisses softly on my neck.
My finger tightened into a fist. I wanted to fling him around and slap his face since he was lacking manners, but my body was frozen, and I couldn't move.
“I'd like to leave, but you don't look happy. How would I be able to survive out there, knowing that you're this bothered? Please look at me and at least smile,” he whispered, and that caused a lump to rise to my throat. “I understand how you feel. I kissed you without your permission, and I will apologise for that. I know you're rejecting me around you, but if you're doing that because of your ex-husband, then it doesn't look good. Can't you just get over him?”
He was going crazy. He spewed gibberish.
I forced myself onto my feet and walked away from him into the kitchen. There, I grabbed a cup and poured myself chilled water, which I downed on the go.
‘What manner of man does not stop loving a woman when he is constantly rejected? I loved him from the first day, but I can't stand getting hurt all over again, so it's better I just stick to being single.’ I touched my lips, the one he'd just kissed. ‘How did he get the guts to do that? I loved it, but I can't act as I did, or he would mistake it for my acceptance.’
I was about to pour myself another cup of water when I heard a sound from behind me, and I quickly turned to see him staring at me from the doorpost. Now that I got to look at him from head to toe once again, I could say that he was every woman's dream man.
His height, size, beauty and decency, even though he was a biker. I was just pleased with all those, but wouldn't he be worse than Dante? Lilo said otherwise, but I can't believe it for real.
“I'll be leaving you for now. If need be, I dropped my contact card on the sofa; please call or text me, I'll quickly respond to you,” he said and turned around, leaving.
My lips hung midway; no word came out, but they roamed in my heart. I wanted him to stay, to hold me once again and maybe embrace me, and I could feel his heartbeat, but I couldn't say it out loud. Unlike the other times, I noticed that neither side of me wanted him to leave; I had just softened up.
Could it be the kiss? Tears welled in my eyes.
I quickly dropped the cup and ran out of the kitchen. As I opened the door, he had mounted his bike and was about to put on his helmet. I stood there, staring at him, tears still burning in my eyes and not rolling down yet.
He stared back at me, maybe expecting me to say something. And when I didn't, he got off his bike again, placed his helmet on his bike and started returning to where I was. He took my hands, looked me in the eyes for some time and asked, “Are you okay? What's that liquid in your eyes?”
I blinked, and they all rolled down at once.
As vulnerable as I was at that moment, I couldn't even tell which was behind my tears. Was it the trauma of the almost r**e incident, or him that I was shoving away because of my past while he was so kind?
Recalling the first night we met and how he shielded me that night was enough reason for me to believe he was different, but I hadn't come to believe it yet. Could I ever truly love again? I'm tired of being the victim and don't wanna get hurt again.
When I had stayed for long and didn't say a thing, he closed the space between us and pulled me into an embrace, gently patting my back like I was a child.
I needed this from him, to feel his heartbeat and warmth, to feel shielded for once instead of being the strong woman all the time.
“If you want a shoulder to cry on, then I'm gonna lend you mine,” he whispered to me, and I nodded.
With no more words, he raised me swiftly over his shoulder and started getting back into my apartment. He sat me down on the sofa, took his seat beside me and made me lean on him.
“Don't hold it back; it will cause you a headache. I will stay until you're very okay,” he said to me, soft enough to comfort me.
But it was too heavy in my chest to be held. I didn't know when and how, but I burst into heavy tears for the very first time in life, tears flooding my face. It was as though all my pains wanted their way out now, right from my dad disappearing and the mess I'd been into just to meet up in life.
I squeezed my palm on his thigh, and he took it into his palm, patting it and not saying a word or trying to stop my tears.
Minutes passed before I let out a heavy breath, my chest rising and falling, and I pulled away from him.
He looked at me for some time and stood, grabbed the wipes some feet away on the table, and handed them to me.
I began to wipe my face and sniff out my runny nose.
“How do you feel now?” he asked, and I glanced at him.
“Light…” I answered, and he nodded. “Thank you!”
He shook his head, "Don't mention.” He took my hand again and kissed the back of my palm. “Do you wanna see the imbecile back at the supermarket?”
My face lit up a bit, “I forgot to ask what you did with him…”
“He's been handed over to the cops, but is hospitalised for now.”
“Hospitalised? What happened? I'd like to see him.” I answered and sniffed once again.
