When they both got home that night, Kaida went inside- she was still a bit sloppy and couldn't wait to sleep
Meanwhile Kaius had to wait for him while he goes to the pack’s main hacienda to visit his sick mom.
He went downstairs, took one of the cars from the garage and entered the streets that night– the night was cold but he was far from concerned about that.
While on his way, he got a phone call from his uncle who everyone simply calls the Baron, because obviously he was considered the Baron of Larkpur.
“ How's she doing uncle, ” Kaius asked desperately, his voice was urgent but had a hint of exhaustion.
“ There wouldn't a any need of you here, boy. Your mother only had a minor seizure but she's getting better as we speak. ” He drew his breath “ the doctors had rushed down here over an hour ago too, ” He paused, “ Are you still coming? ”. Asked the Baron.
“ Yes, Uncle, I'm right around the corner… you should be able to see me in a couple minutes or so…
“ You should turn back ”. Said the Baron, “ It's not safe ”.
“ Why? ” Kaius asked, his eyes locked on the empty road as he steeered his car clearfully down the road.
His uncle spoke in a gruff manner
“ She's been taken care of, trust me. And your presence here might cause a distraction– so it's safe you return to your place and again, it's almost midnight– Alpha or not, you shouldn't be out by this ungodly moment. ”
“ But I'm already a few blocks away and… ” The line beeped twice and went dead, Kaius held the phone in his ear in utter confusion but he knew best not to argue with the Baron.
He had spent his youth in the embrace of the Baron’s shelter and since his father's mysterious death, the Baron had been his custodian, at least for the most part of his life but that man wasn't as friendly as he appears, that much did Kaius know.
He immediately hit the breaks, the tyres were forced to a halt, emitting a deafening screech and a cloud of smoke, then the car spun around in the same moment, as he drove back home.
Kaius had returned almost a few minutes pass 1 o'clock and Kaida– Kaida had fallen asleep on the couch. He was even more surprised that she hadn't removed her clothes yet and why the whole lights were switched on.
He went over to where she lay worn-out and pat her on the shoulder.
she groaned and turned- still sleeping though but drooling all over the couch.
Kaius had a thought to leave here there, he needed to take a shower, but on second thoughts, maybe tomorrow– he needed to sleep too, And Kaida, hewould be back for her when he takes his clothes off
As he turned to leave, he raised his arm and his nose met his armpit.
He gasped, “ What the heck, ” he swiftly shifted his face off to dodge the smell but it oozed everywhere.
That does it, he needed to take his shower.
Before leaving, he heard a sigh as Kaida coughed wearily, “ You're not very romantic you know, ” . Her voice was toned down and was barely above a whisper.
“ Oh, so you're not even sleeping? ”. Kaius asked, slowly turning around.
She gasped, “ I was, until your car woke me up, ” She sat up and stretched out her arms, “ Can you get me a glass of water though, my tongue is unnecessary dry ”.
Kaius smirked and went to bring the water from the fridge.
“ So how's mom doing, I guess she's fine right? ” Kaida asked, making no effort to turn her neck. She just sat there, both hands in-between her legs and a wore a long, exhausted face.
“ Well, I didn't meet her ” replied Kaius.
“ Why?, I thought you were trying to break the land speed record to get to her! What happened? Cold feet? Change of heart? Spill the tea?”
Haha very funny.
Kaida hissed.
“ Sady, all at once. ” Kaius said with a chuckle. “ So, my uncle called…
“ The Baron? ”.
“ Yes, the Baron. He told me that coming wasn't gonna help matters that I needed to turn back and that's what I did, I came back. ” Kaius replied.
“ What about your mom's health, hope she's feeling better? ”.
“ Uhm, she's kicking for the meantime… I mean, i guess ”. Kaius took a tumbler from the kitchen shelf, rinsed it and filled it up with water, he kept the bottle back in the fridge and took the tumbler to Kaida.
She had a sip and lowered the glass beside her rather than on the table, “ now that feels a lot better, ” She coughed again but this time was to clear her throat.
“ Can we talk, babe? ” Said Kaida. This made Kaius curious but it was getting really late– although, he wasn't one to ignore his supposed Luna, “ of course you can, ” He moved the glass to the table and sat real close to Kaida.
“ Okay, I've got an amazing idea, this might come as a surprise but- I want to become a detective! ” Kaida exclaimed.
Kaius raised an eyebrow and chuckled , “ That's not exactly a surprise, Kaida. You've always been fascinated by beating the crap outta criminals. But that's not why you sat me down, is it? ”
she shook her head, “ No, it's not. I was thinking of visiting Sheriff montgomery this weekend, you know, see if I can get an internship or something at the crime lab or the forensic institute. ”
Kaius nodded thoughtfully, his hand resting on her lap“ Sounds like a solid plan, but… ”
Kaida groaned, “ Don't even think about being pessimistic," Kaida warned, holding up a hand.
Kaius chuckled again. “ Too late for that. You know exactly what I'm going to say - what if Sheriff montgomery finds out you're a werewolf? Not everyone can handle that kind of thing and that man is hell of a racist."
Kaida waved her hand dismissively.
“ I'll be fine. Besides, he's an old friend of my dad's. I'm sure he'll be cool with it. ”
“ Well, I'll be going off to the shower right about now, ” Kaius said, taking to his feet. “ I believe you know where the bedroom is–and I will be waiting for you there ”.
“ But I'm tired!!! ”.
Kaius scoffed, “ Being exhausted doesn't make you Sherlock, it just makes you human and it's certainly not a requirement for being a detective”.
“ But I don't wanna be Sherlock… and neither am I human ” Kaida said, stretching out her hand for an assistance from Kaius.
As the alpha took her hand, Kaida snorted, “ I'm gonna pee, carry me! ”
Kaius grinned, “ Only 'cause I don't want you peeing on my floor.”
Kaida pretended to squirm out of his grasp, laughing, as Kaius carried her to the bathroom.
