Chapter 1 Janesa first meeting the Tutor
Janesa lay sprawled on her bed, flipping through the latest fashion magazine, when her mother knocked softly on the door and then entered without waiting for a response. "Honey, we need to talk."
"What's up, Mom?" Janesa asked, barely glancing up from the glossy pages.
Her mother, Maria Guzman, sat down on the edge of the bed, her face etched with concern. "Your father and I have been talking, and we're worried about your grades. You've been slipping, and it's not like you. We know you're capable of much more."
Janesa rolled her eyes. "I know, I know. I'll try harder, okay?"
"We believe you, but we also think you need some help. We've decided to hire a tutor for you," Maria said, her tone firm but gentle.
"A tutor? Seriously?" Janesa's eyes widened. "Mom, I don't need a tutor. I can handle it."
Maria shook her head. "This isn't up for discussion, Janesa. He's coming over this afternoon."
Janesa groaned. "This is so unfair."
"It's for your own good," Maria replied, standing up. "Just give it a chance. His name is Mr. Bennett, and he's highly recommended."
Later that afternoon, as Janesa sulked in the living room, the doorbell rang. Maria answered it, and moments later, a tall, bespectacled man with a kind face and a briefcase entered the room.
"Hello, you must be Janesa," he said with a warm smile. "I'm Mr. Bennett."
Janesa sighed and stood up. "Yeah, that's me. Nice to meet you, Mr. Bennett."
Mr. Bennett chuckled. "Please, call me Henrix. Shall we get started?"
Reluctantly, Janesa led him to the dining room table, where she had her textbooks and notebooks spread out. Henrix glanced at her materials and nodded approvingly.
"All right, Janesa. Let's take a look at what you're struggling with," Henrix said, sitting down across from her.
Janesa hesitated, feeling a mix of embarrassment and frustration. "I guess... I'm just having trouble keeping up with everything. There's so much homework, and I just don't have time."
Henrix nodded understandingly. "Balancing schoolwork and a social life can be challenging. But with a bit of organization and focus, you can definitely manage it. Let's start by setting some goals."
As they talked, Janesa found herself slowly opening up. Henrix was patient and understanding, and he made the material seem less daunting. They worked through a few math problems together, and for the first time in weeks, Janesa felt a glimmer of hope.
"See? You're already getting the hang of it," Henrix said encouragingly. "It's all about breaking it down into manageable pieces."
Janesa smiled, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. "Thanks, Henrix. Maybe this won't be so bad after all."
Over the next few weeks, Henrix came by regularly, and Janesa's grades began to improve. But more than that, she found herself genuinely enjoying their sessions. Henrix had a way of making learning fun, and he always had interesting stories and examples to share.
One afternoon, as they were wrapping up their session, Henrix leaned back in his chair and looked at Janesa thoughtfully. "You know, Janesa, you're really bright. You have a lot of potential."
Janesa blushed. "Thanks, Henrix. I guess I just needed someone to help me see it."
Henrix smiled. "I'm glad I could be that person. But remember, the real credit goes to you. You're the one putting in the effort."
As Henrix packed up his things and prepared to leave, Janesa felt a pang of gratitude. Hiring a tutor had seemed like a punishment at first, but now she realized it was one of the best things that could have happened to her.
After Henrix left, Janesa sat down at the kitchen table to finish her homework. Her mother walked in and noticed the look of concentration on her face.
"How was your session with Henrix?" Maria asked, pouring herself a cup of coffee.
"Really good," Janesa replied with a smile. "I think I'm actually starting to get this stuff."
Maria smiled, her eyes filled with relief and pride. "I'm glad to hear that, honey. We just want what's best for you."
"I know, Mom. And I'm really trying," Janesa said sincerely.
As the weeks turned into months, Janesa's grades continued to improve, and she found herself becoming more disciplined and focused. She even started to enjoy school again, something she hadn't felt in a long time.
One day, after a particularly good session, Hanrix looked at Janesa with a serious expression. "Janesa, I think you're ready to start thinking about your future. Have you given any thought to what you want to do after high school?"
Janesa hesitated. "I don't know. I guess I haven't really thought about it much."
"That's okay," Henrix said reassuringly. "But it's never too early to start thinking about your passions and interests. What do you enjoy doing the most?"
Janesa thought for a moment. "I love art. Drawing and painting have always been my favorite things to do."
David nodded. "That's great. There are so many opportunities in the field of art. Have you considered looking into art schools or programs?"
Janesa's eyes lit up. "No, I haven't. But that sounds amazing."
"Why don't we start researching some options together?" David suggested. "We can look at different schools and programs, and see what might be a good fit for you."
Excited by the prospect, Janesa agreed, and they spent the next few weeks researching art schools and programs. Henrix helped her put together a portfolio of her work, and they even visited a few local art schools to get a feel for what they were like.
As Janesa immersed herself in the world of art, she felt a sense of purpose and direction she had never felt before. She realized that she had been coasting through life, not really thinking about what she wanted to do or who she wanted to be. But now, with Henrix's guidance, she felt like she was finally on the right path.
One evening, as Janesa was working on a new painting, her boyfriend, Alex, called. She glanced at her phone and sighed. She hadn't seen much of Alex lately, and she knew he wasn't happy about it.
"Hey, Alex," she said, answering the call.
"Hey, babe. Where have you been? I feel like I haven't seen you in forever," Alex said, his voice tinged with annoyance.
"I've just been really busy with school and my art," Janesa explained. "I'm sorry. I know I haven't been around much."
"Yeah, I noticed," Alex replied. "Look, Janesa, I get that school is important, but I miss you. We used to have so much fun together."
"I miss you too," Janesa said softly. "But I really need to focus on my future right now. This is important to me."
There was a long pause on the other end of the line. Finally, Alex sighed. "I get it. I just hope there's still room for me in your future."
"Of course there is," Janesa said quickly. "I just need you to understand that I have to prioritize my education and my art right now."
"I understand," Alex said, though his tone suggested otherwise. "I guess I'll just have to get used to it."
After they hung up, Janesa felt a pang of guilt. She cared about Alex, but she knew she couldn't let anything distract her from her goals. For the first time in her life, she felt like she had a clear sense of direction, and she wasn't about to let that go.
As the months went by, Janesa continued to work hard, both in school and on her art. Henrix's tutoring sessions became less about academics and more about helping her navigate her future. He introduced her to people in the art world, helped her prepare for interviews, and even arranged for her to have her first gallery showing.
The night of her gallery showing was one Janesa would never forget. She stood nervously in the small gallery, surrounded by her paintings, as people walked around, admiring her work. Henrix stood by her side, offering words of encouragement.
"You did an amazing job, Janesa," he said, smiling proudly. "This is just the beginning for you."
Janesa beamed. "I couldn't have done it without you, Henrix. Thank you for everything."
"It's been my pleasure," Henrix replied. "You've come so far, and I know you're going to do great things."
As Janesa looked around the gallery, she spotted her parents, their faces glowing with pride. She waved at them, and they hurried over to congratulate her.
"We're so proud of you, Janesa," her father said, hugging her tightly
