Ruth and her crowd had commandeered the television room at the end of the corridor on the second floor. Few of the inmates not in that family wanted to risk disturbing Ruth when she was “holding court.” It was just easier, and safer, to go to another common room.
Ruth, Tuck, and another woman that Cam knew was also Ruth’s lieutenant were intensely watching the World Series as a half dozen other women lounged around the room. These were all women Cam had seen eating at Ruth’s table.
“Hi!” Gina bounced into the room ahead of Cam. She plopped herself down on the couch next to Ruth. “I brought Cameron with me.”
The women all turned to look at Cam who stood in the door, her hands in her pockets.
“Come on in,” Ruth beckoned. “Annie. Get up and let our guest have a good seat.”
