The next morning Alyra ate breakfast like usual and waited for Sam in the kitchen. Sam arrived and asked Alyra "are you ready for today?" Alyra said "yup, and hopefully you can teach me something with a devilish smile". Sam said "hopefully you can learn how to shoot besides other goodies I have to teach you".

When Sam finished eating they headed for the basement to the armory and firing range.

They entered the last door on the right which lead to an underground bunker where the guns are stored, and just off to the left you can see a firing range.

Sam asked Alyra "do you know anything about guns, and rifles?" Alyra said "no" of course. Sam said "okay".

"The first weapon I am going to teach you about is the sniper rifle, our good old pal here the Baretta M82. It has a scope and a silencer/Suppressor on it for accessories".

"Sniper rifles are useful against human targets. The Barrett M82’s big .50 caliber round is particularly useful in this regard, as it only drops below supersonic speeds at 1,700 yards while still hitting with the force of 1,800 foot pounds. So you could take out an armor vehicle as well. Snipers can make their presence felt from great distances".

"Do you understand so far about a sniper rifle we have?" Alyra replied "yes" Sam said "good I will continue".

Baretta M82 Silencer/Suppressor:

"This accessory prevents gunfire from hearing and locating the position of the shooter. It also reduces the muzzle flash of the weapon. As a disadvantage, the Silencer either reduces the range at which weapons do their maximum damage, damage of the weapon as a whole, or the damage done by the weapon at its longest range".

Alyra asked Sam "what is a muzzle flash?" Sam replied "good question", "muzzle flash is the visible light that comes from the front of the rifle or gun you fired". Alyra said "okay".

"Now this part here of the rifle is a magazine and it holds your bullets for your rifle. Now we load the rifle by lift up the bolt and sliding it back to let a bullet in the chamber like so, and bring the bolt back in place from the start, and now your rifle is loaded".

"The rifle might be a little heavy for you right now, but I will help you bring it over to the firing range".

"We have 2 different targets, one in a human shape, and the other like a bullseye. Your going to practice with the bullseye right now". Look into the scope, do you see the lines? Alyra says "yes".

"The sniper scopes are essentially specialized telescopes. When sighting a target through a scope, snipers are comparing point of aim to point of impact. Simply put, when firing a bullet from over 600 yards, where you are aiming is not going to be where the bullet lands".

"So always lead your target before firing. Do you understand so far Alyra?" Alyra nodded.

"Now lay down flat on your stomach, and I will position the rifle in front of you. Are you comfortable?" Alyra said "yes". "Try aiming for the center of the target, without leading the target since it doesn't move".

The first shot she missed the target all together due to the kick of the gun, and she closed her eyes when she fired. Sam asked her "what did you do wrong?" Alyra shroud.

Sam told her about not having the rifle snug tight to her shoulder, and closing her eyes when she fired. "You need to keep your eyes open so you make sure you took your target out." Alyra said "okay". Sam got her to load the rifle herself, and she did it no problem.

"Now here is a box of bullets to practice, keep trying." Sam watched in the background while Alyra was shooting. Finally with the last bullet she hit the target, but missed all the black rings, instead she hit the outer edge in the white area.

Sam said "I'll help you more after dinner. Make sure the rifle has no bullets in it?" Alyra pulled the bolt back and didn't see any bullets, and showed Sam. Sam said "good, lets go eat".
