4 - Finding our Mate

1917 Words
Isaiah’s POV Dad called Reece, Caleb and I into his office and told me he received word from Aston in the Blood Moon Pack. Angelica was officially graduating tomorrow, and he gave her the letter and application forms for her to attend United Strength University or USU for short. Well, der, we had our graduation last week and have already enrolled for the up-and-coming semester. We will be taking leadership classes since we will be taking over the kingdom when we reach 30 years of age. Back to what dad needed us for. He said we needed to go to the Blood Moon pack and collect Aston, Casey and Angelica to bring them back to the kingdom pack. Sounds simple, but nothing could be further from the truth. When he explained why Angelica needed to be protected, my dragon, Archie, almost went off the deep end. You see, I have a dragon and he is my wolf. I’ve known this was going to be the case since I was young. My grandmother, on my mother’s side, and her identical sisters had been cursed as a child and the curse carried down to us. A dark witch needed to initiate the curse and one did. It separated our wolf, witch and dragon sides. I was fortunate enough to get a dragon, but unlike a normal dragon, mine is a counterpart, like my brother Reece’s wolf, Damian. Anyway, Casey and Aston would be in danger too if word got out. They were her father and sister. So, here we are, standing at the doorway of Aston’s home in the dragon kingdom. “Mate is close by” Archie said, as I turned to look at Reece, who was sniffing the air. Dames must be telling him too. I take a deep breath in; blueberry and cinnamon. It smells like the blueberry pancakes with cinnamon sugar Mildred cooks for us and the three of us love to eat. Is that Angelica’s scent? I vaguely remember it when I was a small pup, although it's been a long time. Caleb leans forward and knocks on the front door. “Coming”, I hear a female voice behind the door and I stand up straight, holding my breath. The door swung open as the voice that called out gasps at the sight of us. I release my breath, although she has the same brown eyes as Angelica, she is not her, and doesn’t own the scent my dragon is begging me to follow. “You must be the sister” I said, taking a few steps forward into the small house. “Casey, yes” she answered, peering through her lashes between the three of us. “Angie isn’t awake yet. I heard her tossing and turning most of the night.” “Go, mate needs us” Archie said, as I moved to take a step towards the staircase. “Which room is she in?” I heard Caleb saying, a small smile creeping on his face. It’s really annoying he can hear everyone’s thoughts and I can’t. It's the only thing I wished I got from Dad. “But then again, he doesn’t have me” Archie said, sitting down and wrapping his deep purple tail around his scaley legs. “That is true, my friend” I answered him, watching Caleb move up the stairs as Casey ushered us into the living area. I glanced over at the small dining table with Angelica’s application and letter from dad. He hand wrote it. He only ever does that when he needs to be meaningful. I pick up the forms and place them back in the A4 envelope sitting at the side of the paperwork, before placing it back on the table. That’s my OCD coming out. I don’t like mess. I glance over at Aston, who gives me a firm nod, when I hear footsteps coming down the stairs and I hold in another breath. Unfortunately, it was Caleb, looking very confused. I release the breath, what’s up? He glanced between Reece and I; ‘she doesn’t know or doesn’t sense it. I’m not sure what’s going on’ he tells us, projecting his thoughts. He can’t mind link like Reece and I can; luckily, an enchantment put on our grandmother allows him to speak with us, without opening his mouth. It’s something pappy, nana, mum and dad can do. Or she doesn’t want to sense it. “She’s having a shower”, Caleb tells everyone in the room, sitting down on a sofa near the single recliner Aston was in. Casey left the living area with a clothes bag and headed up the stairs; to my surprise, Reese followed behind her. “That’s what you should be doing” Archie snarled at me, blowing hot air through his nose. I hate it when he does that; I can feel it every time he does. It’s like a gust of hot wind breathing on the back of my neck. “Why aren’t you joining our mate in the shower too?” “He is not joining her in the…” “Are you stalking me?” I hear her sweet voice yell from one of the rooms upstairs. “Get out of here, Caleb.” ‘That’s funny, she thinks Reece is me’ Caleb laughs in my mind. I can understand why she does. We look the same. 6 foot 8 with dark hair and dark eyes. Pretty much like Dad, Pappy and Poppy. She knew I looked familiar, but didn’t know where; she doesn’t recognize who we are to her.’ A few minutes later, Angelica yelled; “Just go” and Reece walked down the stairs, his head hanging low at being told to leave. “She now knows we are the royal triplets, and she began to hyperventilate”, Reece tells me through a mind link as he got to the bottom of the stairs. Caleb can hear our mind link by opening Reece and my thoughts even though he can’t do it himself. That’s how we communicate as one. “I put my arms around her, her body is telling her one thing, but her mind is telling her another. She really doesn’t sense it.” I looked over at Aston and then at Casey; “Is there any reason Angelica wouldn’t be able to feel a mate bond?” I asked Aston, through a mind link. I didn’t want to alert Casey about anything at that stage. He shifts his eyes in my direction, contemplating my question before nodding and shutting down the mind link. What the f**k? He's not going to tell us? “Are you ready to go?” Aston asked someone who had stopped at the bottom of the stairs. Oh, no wonder he shut down the mind link. I take in a deep breath of blueberry and cinnamon as Caleb snickers next to me. He must be reading her thoughts because he nods and then shakes his head. ‘She was asking if we could all read minds.’ “Yes, I’m ready” Angelica said as we all stepped outside to Aston’s waiting seven-seat SUV. I stretched out my hand to help her into the vehicle. Goddess, she looks gorgeous in her green dress. “I’m Isaiah”, I told Angelica, who took my open hand, the electricity of the mate bond springing to life as she stepped into the car. I then glared at the backseat; why didn’t I let Caleb or Reece help her? “You’ll get used to his cranky ass, isn’t that right Puff?” Caleb said with a snicker. Why did they have to give me that awful nickname? It makes me look like I’m an airhead. “Because he is a magic dragon.” Yeah, yeah; Puff the magic dragon… that doesn’t live by the sea. And I certainly don’t frolic in the Autumn mist. “Will you stop answering my questions before I ask them out loud?” Angelica spat and I raised my eyebrows at my brother. “You will get used to it” Reece explained, snapping the chair into place, and stepping into the seat next to Angelica. “He’s the only one of us that has got this particular ability. Long story” he continued as she peered over her shoulder to look at Caleb and me. “Today is going to be interesting. We’re here to stop Simeon because he will want to keep you here.” “Does he know you are here?” she asked in return. I’m not sure, but I think I heard a bit of fear in her voice. “He knows” I answered, frowning at how this fuckhead had made her so scared she didn’t want to disobey him if she could avoid it. “He’s always known about it. He just refuses to accept it. That’s why he ordered the teachers to give you extra assignments, hoping you would fail and not graduate. If you don’t graduate, you can’t leave to find your mate. Mrs Robinson knew what he was doing and made sure he could do the extra work. You’ll be surprised how many pack members were on your side.” I know she was thinking about what I told her. Caleb was sitting next to me, pretending he wasn’t listening in. We reached the front of the school and I could hear her sniffing the air. “You know, don’t you?” Angelica whispered to Caleb as she stepped out of the car. What? What do you know? “You are imagining it” he answered, leaning down to whisper in her ear. “It’s probably because we have come to take you away. Three knights in shining armor, as they say.” Oh, she must feel some sort of connection to us. A moment later, Caleb stands up straight, turning to look at us. ‘She doesn’t have her wolf. They’ve stopped her from getting her wolf. That’s why she can’t feel the mate bond.’ “Umm, no, we didn’t. Let’s not think about it for the moment. Let’s wait until your graduation is over, and we can talk with Dad when we get home.” “Did Simeon do something to stop me from getting a wolf?” Angelica whispered. Her breathing was coming out in large gasps as she tried to control her anxiety. “This man is dead when I find out who he is. No wonder...” Archie shouts, not finishing his sentence, standing up on all fours, another puff of air coming out of his nose. I ignored him because I would shift into his large scaly ass if I didn’t. Of course, Simeon did something. There is only one thing that would stop someone from getting their wolf; that’s wolfsbane. How long has he been poisoning her, so she can’t get a wolf and find her mate? Which was us. That had backfired on him. “You read dad’s letter” I growled, trying to contain my anger. It’s not her fault. It should never have happened. “You’re a smart girl, you figure it out”, I included, storming off through the front doors of the school. I can’t wait until this f*****g day is over, and I will have my mate at home with me, where she belongs and away from her asshole stepfather, mother and stepbrother.
