chapter three

Jake Stone smiled at the retreating back of the gorgeous firecracker with unique red hair that had just injured his foot and taken his hotdog. She was something for sure. He really just wanted to get rid of his mother's friend's daughter, who according to his mother had the right pedigree for him to date. His mother had been on his case about dating and settling down with the right woman. Jake had no problem with it especially after seeing how happy his friends were with their wives, he wanted that too. But to his mother, the right woman had to be a snob like her and those creatures gave him the creeps. He had been longing for a woman that would spark something in him and he had found her. At least he thought he had. The red hair caught his eye first, it was a mix of different shades of red with a bit of gold in it. And then there was the swearing. She would have given Millicent a run for her Gucci shoes. Or was her name Melinda? It did not matter, he was rid of her. Thanks to his Red. His Red. It had a nice ring to him. When she had looked up, the dumbfounded and confused expression on her beautiful face made her so adorable he could not stop himself from kissing her. He fell in love with her then. He knew it was crazy but he could swear that his heart skipped a beat. And what a kiss, she sure knew how to kiss. The kiss tugged his veins like no other. Sweet, soft, and supple, like the first taste of a perfectly ripe peach. He could kiss her forever and never stop. Zach and Dean are rubbing off on me. Jake thought to himself. When it came to women, he had a type that he religiously stuck to. Blonde with perfect curves. Easy on the eye and easy on his arm for the intended time. They were safe for him. Hotheaded reds or even the stuck up brunettes, like his best friend's wife, Ava, would have driven him mad. It took Jake months to figure Ava out and get used to her ruthlessness. Thinking of his best friend Jake realized he missed him. He took out his cell phone and dialed Zachary Lockhart's number. "Stone," Zach's deep voice came through the phone. "I think I'm in love," Jake announced. "Good for you. Now, what do you want?" Zach deadpanned. His best friend was such a stiff neck some days. "Really buddy? I say I'm in love and that's all you say?" Jake whined making Zach groan in annoyance. "It's because that's total bullshit. Now, what are you bugging me for today?" "Bugging you? Why I would never do such a horrible thing. I take it upon myself to check on you and update you on how I'm having more fun now you are shackled up," Jake teased. "And not to forget to check up on my daughter. Please put my daughter on the phone, would you? At least she would love and believe me," Jake said as he walked from the hotdog stand going back to his offices. "Goddaughter Jake, she is my daughter and your goddaughter," His friend replied with another groan making Jake smirk. He enjoyed messing with Zach. The rich playboy had become less of a sour puss since he got married. The playboy part also became none existent. To Jake, he just became more fun to piss off. "Yeah yeah daughter, goddaughter, potato, potahto it's the same. Put her on," Jake smirked knowing that Zach was rolling his eyes in annoyance. "No, I'm trying to get them down for their afternoon nap. You will just get her excited and hyper." "It is not my fault I'm like candy to kids and they love me. Put her on and I promise to sing a lullaby," Jake pushed. "You are in a noisy street, it won't work." "But I miss her," Jake whined pouting making the people passing by look at him weirdly. "Why did I make you Sapphire's godfather instead of making Dean godfather to both. Rina was right." Sapphire and Emerald, we're Zach and Ava's two year old twin girls. They were the cutest combination of their parents. Emerald was shy whilst Sapphire was a wild cat. She was the perfect god daughter for Jake. At least that's what Jake thought. "Hey, it is not my fault you love me. Also if you keep rolling your eyes you will lose them somewhere in your head." Jake mocked. "f**k off Stone." Jake grinned to himself knowing he had finally pissed Zach off. He was now swearing, a habit his wife was trying to knock out of him. "Hey I already got sworn at today and that's my daily limit. Plus you can't swear around the girls, wait till Ava hears this." "Ava hears what?" A female voice came through the speaker. Zach had put him on loudspeaker and Ava had heard him. "Uh, nothing honey just Jake singing a lullaby for the girls," Zach said quickly. "Oh really?" Ava was not easy to fool. Jake could picture her eyes narrowed, lips pursed, and hands on her hips. Ready to cause hell. "Um yeah, uuhh rock-a-bye baby on the treetop when...-" Jake started only to get interrupted. "You can shut up now she's gone," Zach whispered to him. "Wait, why was your phone on speaker? Why the hell would you put my phone call on the speaker you i***t? You know I'm s**t scared of your wife," Jake whispered back, still worried Ava might hear. Zach had the audacity to laugh. " I know, it's really funny." "Oh please, you are more scared of her than I am. Anyway, say hi to my daughter for me when she wakes up." "Yeah, yeah later dude. Don't forget dinner at Dean's next weekend" This time Zach did not bother correcting him. He knew it was a lost cause. "I won't forget. Love you, bro." Jake said then made a kissing noise through the phone. He wanted to poke the grouch one more time. "Piss off Stone." This time Jake laughed as he crossed the street and got into his building. He had a redhead to hunt down.
