*ELYSIA*
.
A small groan escaped my lips as my eyelids fluttered open. The pungent smell of aspirin, antiseptic, and blood instantly wheezed into my nostrils, making it uncomfortable to breathe.
I tried to pull myself to a sitting position but a soft pair of hands held me down followed by a calm, feminine voice. "Please lay still, Luna Elysia. Your body needs more rest."
Her voice was so comforting but I couldn't help but stare blankly at her face because I hadn't seen her before.
"Who are you?" I asked. My voice came out in a croaky whisper.
"My name is Sadie. I'm a newly employed nurse and I was assigned to you since you got admitted three days ago." She said with a charming smile.
Three days ago?
I trailed my mind back, wondering what led me to the Pack hospital. And that was when the horrible memories of what Dorian did to me came crashing down. How he almost killed me because I asked for a divorce, how he pounded into another lady and then asked why I entered his study without his permission. However, I recalled the blood streaming down between my thighs just before I passed out, so I asked the nurse. "What about my baby?"
The smile on her face fell and she lowered her head disappointedly.
"Tell me pl-ease," I demanded, my voice breaking. "Is my baby fine?"
She finally raised her head to look at me and I could see her eyes red with tears. "I'm so sorry, Luna. I tried so hard to help you but you already lost so much blood before you were admitted. You suffered a miscarriage."
I screamed in anguish.
My heart shattered into a million pieces, knowing I had lost the one thing that was starting to give me strength. As I broke down in tears, I could not help but ask the moon goddess what I had done to deserve such a miserable fate. Why condemn me to a life of misery and subject me to unending sorrow?
Nurse Sadie plopped on the bed and gathered me into her arms. I broke into uncontrollable sobs while she stroked my hair and said so many pacifying words.
"It is going to be fine, Luna Elysia. You are a strong woman and you are going to overcome this..."
But if only she knew there was no overcoming this until I had gotten a divorce and left my animalistic husband. I swear on everything I live for not to ever forgive Dorian for what he had done to me.
He took a little girl who needed love and shattered her bit by bit. A girl he was meant to shower with love and fed her with nothing but hate.
Now all I had left in my heart was pure consuming hatred. I despise him now with every fiber of my being.
"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I know how much this hurts." The kind nurse kept pacifying me but if only she knew there was no amount of soothing words that could heal the trauma I had been through.
Just then, the door to my ward flung open and Dorian strutted in.
Nurse Sadie quickly pulled away from me, stepped aside, and bowed.
I looked at him with teary eyes and a heart filled with disdain.
"Hey, Elysia... how have you been?" He began to ask. When I did not respond, he signaled the nurse to leave.
The nurse looked at me in hesitation. She could tell I didn't want her to leave but when Dorian barked at her, she scurried out of the ward.
As soon as she left and shut the door behind her, Dorian turned to me and asked. "Why didn't you tell me that you were pregnant?"
Because you don't deserve to be a father, I thought to myself but didn't say it out loud.
He brought himself to sit beside me and then took one of my hands in his while he wiped the tears on my face with his other hand. "I didn't mean to punish you that hard, Elysia. I was only disciplining you because I love you."
It took everything in me not to laugh in his face right now. He loves me? Did he just say he loves me? You do not hurt the one you love, you do not raise your hands on the one you love, you do not say hurtful things to the one you love...
But instead of saying those things to him, I removed my hand from his. There was no point engaging in any verbal exchange with this man anymore. I have lost every strength to fight. Now, all I had to do was wait for the perfect time to exit his life for good.
"Elysia..." He muttered softly, tilting my chin with the tip of his finger. "I want us to try for another baby. We are mates and we have been married for almost a year now. I do not intend to let you go. You are going to be the mother of my unborn kids. You are going to be by my side until we turn old and gray together."
What a joke!
I scoffed. "You hit me until I lost my child, Dorian."
"And we will make another one," he replied, rendering me speechless and utterly in disbelief. "We can try for another one after you get discharged."
"No," I shook my defiantly. "I don't want to have another baby with you. I still stand on my word, Dorian. I want a divorce."
Almost at once, he snapped. "What the f**k is wrong with you? I'm trying to be kind to you and you are starting to make me regret it."
"Then don't be." I fired back. "All this pretense is making me sick to my stomach, I don't want to do this anymore."
Dorian forcefully yanked my chin, prompting me to look him in the eye. "There is no escaping this, Elysia. You are mine. We are married and we are mates. That's final."
"No, it's not!" I snapped back at him.
He smirked darkly. "Oh, you think so? Who is going to be with a lowly worthless girl like you if I dump you? Do you think anyone would want you? I am doing you a favor. You ought to be thanking me every day of your worthless life for making you a renowned Luna instead of a corpse."
"I never asked for it." I blurted. If I said I didn't want to engage in any verbal exchange with him earlier, I changed my mind. "I did not ask you to save me that day so stop rubbing it in my face and save me the stress."
He hardened his jaw as he glared at me. Just as he was about to raise his fist at me, a knock pounded on the door stopping him.
His eyes left me to the door as he demanded. "Who is that?"
"Beta Flint, Sire."
Dorian quickly released his grip on me and straightened himself before ushering. "Come in."
The door opened and Beta Flint walked in. He bowed in respect. "Greetings Alpha and Luna..." Then he addressed Dorian afterward. "Alpha, your Uncle, Alpha Drayton of the Bloodline Pack just arrived at the pack."
I once heard that Dorian had an Uncle, who became an Alpha to a pack because the previous Alpha took him as his child since he had none. But he has never visited for once.
Dorian's face lit up. "Uncle Drayton is around? Why didn't he tell me of his visit? Let me go and—"
"—Actually," the beta cuts in. "I told him you are at the Pack hospital with your Luna and he is on his way here. He stopped by to greet Doctor Steve. He said they are long-time pals."
"Yes, I know." Dorian said dismissively. "Stand outside and open the door for him when he comes."
Beta Flint nodded then stepped out at once. Meanwhile Dorian turned to me. "You belong to me, Elysia and there is no escaping. Your punishment for defying me earlier would be scheduled for later. For now, I need you to put on your best smile and welcome my uncle." He instructed.
I didn't respond. Instead, I just stared at him blankly.
A couple of minutes later, the door opened and the most charming man I have ever seen stepped into the room. "Dorian!"
"Uncle Drayton!"
I watched them pull into a hug and when they pulled apart, his uncle turned to look at me.
"Oh, this is the woman I have been telling you over the phone, uncle. Meet my wife, Elysia."
His uncle's beguiling eyes held mine as he walked up to me. Gently, he took one of my hands and kissed the back of it. "A pleasure to meet you, Ely—"
Just as he was about to complete my name, I felt something stirred deep within me and my wolf purred, "Mate."
