Chapter 14

Glynn's P.O.V. I wanted to follow Kelly, to stop her, to tell her how much I cared about her. But the business side of me stopped myself. I knew I needed to revise the contract that had already been proposed before I let my personal issues overcome this matter. It hurt me to not follow her, but my father's business was my life. It was not easy to let something like this go, and I had to figure out a way to make this all work no matter what. I text Griffin, giving him a vague description of what was going on. I didn't want him to know that Kelly was involved with this, but I needed him to get in contact with legal so we could go from there. I ordered some hamburger's and fries with the hope that Kelly would emerge from her room, but she never did. I knocked on her door about nine o'clock and there was no response. I opened it quietly and she was sound asleep on the bed. I tip toed and gently covered her up with a blanket and kissed her lips lightly. I didn't want to disturb her, so I just let her be. I just hoped that I wouldn't lose her so soon through all of this. The next morning I awoke to the smell of coffee and quickly ran downstairs to catch a glimpse of Kelly. She was nowhere to be seen but had left a note instead, Dear Glynn, Thank you for everything, I have the realtor's number and will be moving into my condo this afternoon. I plan on continuing to work at Worthington Enterprises but will not be seeing you as it is a conflict of interest for me right now. I want you to know that I can never repay you for your kindness but that I will always have a special place in my heart for you. Sincerely, Kelly Miller I reread her note and it hurt me so that I was not the man she needed right now because of my own selfish interests. If I could find a way out of this contract, I would do anything to just get her back. Kelly's P.O.V. I cried all the way to my new condo and as soon as I stopped at the building, I wiped my tears away. I thought Glynn was my knight in shining armor but I guess not. " Hi, I'm here to meet Sandra" I said to the receptionist. " Yes, she is expecting you. Here are the keys to your condo and the floor its on" she said as she handed me the keys and it was on the tenth floor. I wasn't used to being so high up but I guess I would get used to it. I rode the elevator up and hoped that Glynn would have text me or something, but my phone was silent. I reached the tenth floor and it turned out to be the top floor as well. " Ahh, Kelly so nice to finally meet you " Sandra said as I met the short blonde woman who could pass for my twin but just a few inches shorter. " Come in, I want to give you a tour. Only the best for friends of Glynn Worthington, when he said he had someone who was interested in this place, I couldn't wait to show it." as she showed me the open air kitchen with all new appliances. The bar had storage underneath for anything. The sink was open to look out towards the Dallas skyline, along with the balcony big enough for a couch and two big chairs. Then she led me to the master suite with a king size canopy bed, all antique finished wood. Then we stepped into the master bathroom which was above my dreams. There was a spa tub, a walk in shower for like five people and double vanity sinks. The double closets were adjoining and could fit more clothes than I could ever dream of having. The guest bedroom was lovely alongside the extra room which I was going to turn into my office. " So what do you think?" she asked me as we headed back into the kitchen. " I love it... but how much is it?" Sandra laughed at me, " Honey, this place is already paid for, Mr. Worthington notified me of that two days ago. You are home!" she squealed with excitement and I couldn't help but let a tear come down my eye. After I signed all the approprate paperwork, Sandra left and I just marveled at this beautiful condo I had just acquired. As much as it pained me to leave Glynn, I still needed to thank him for all of this. " Thank you so much for the condo, I was prepared to pay my fair share" " No need, I am glad you are happy with it. I miss you..." " I miss you too but I don't know how to do this any other way" " I understand. Have a good day" After I read his message, it made me feel even more confused. I shook it off and informed Griffin I was now heading into work due to me meeting with Sandra. He was okay with it, he just needed me to see him in his office once I arrived. Once I arrived, I waited for Griffin's receptionist to get his attention and she motioned for me to wait in the chair beside her desk. I flipped through social media and checked my emails as I heard someone clearing their throat, " Miss Miller, so nice of you to join us today. Would you please come in?" Griffin announced as he ushered me into his office. He sat down behind his desk and I sat in front of him. " Now it has come to my attention that you are from the area in which we have a huge development planned. I know it's not necessarily in your degree background, but I need someone on the ground there for me for a few days to give me a feel of the area. Since your familiar, would you be able to help?" Griffin grinned at me and I felt like I had been set up. I didn't know if Glynn had told him or not about where I was directly from, but I was afraid if I didn't take this opportunity I might not have a job. " Yes, sir that is my hometown close to the planned development. What do you have in mind?" He leaned in closer and licked his lips, " Well my cousin has a lake house there nearby. We go there whenever we want, so I was wondering if you would accompany me as a business professional to help me scout out the area" he said as I nodded in reply " Perfect, we leave the day after tomorrow. We are meeting with the agent from the EPA, so wear something nice" he said as he dismissed me. I walked back to my office and as soon as I opened the door, there stood Glynn. " What are you doing here?" I asked him.
