Chapter 12

Kelly's P.O.V We met Griffin at a quaint Italian restaurant not too far from the executive building. As we walked in, the waitress motioned for us to follow her to the reserved table where Griffin was drinking a glass of wine. " Are we allowed to drink during business hours?" I whispered to Glynn. " Not really, but Griffin has never been one to follow the rules" as Glynn pulled the chair out in for me and I was sitting between him and Griffin. " So what do you think of our little establishment?" Griffin smirked at me as I ordered a lemon water. " Well I wouldn't exactly call it little, but it does seem impressive so far" I smiled as Griffin nodded and Glynn just sat back. " Well I hope that we can continue to impress you" Griffin said as the waitress came back and we ordered our food. We made small talk and after we ate, Griffin grinned at me and I knew something was up. " So Miss Miller, are you seeing anyone?" and I knew he was working up to it while we were eating. I chose my words carefully as I knew Glynn was waiting for my response. " Yes, and he is such a great guy. He really is a sweetheart and is taking great care of me" as Griffin smirked and Glynn just sat there solemnly. " Well I'm happy for you, if anything ever changes let me know" he said as he paid the bill. He then winked at me, " Brother I will see you later at the office. Miss Miller, always a pleasure" as he got up and left. Glynn got up and handed me his hand and I took it as we left. " If you hold my hand, do you think Griffin will see? " Glynn looked around and didn't see anyone. " No one is watching, let's go darling" as Glynn escorted me out of the restaurant. Glynn's P.O.V. The nerve of my brother, but I knew that he would try to pull something. When Kelly said that she was seeing someone, my heart soared at hearing those words. We drove back to the office and I dropped her off at her door. " I'll come and pick you up at 5pm okay?" as she nodded and I proceeded to go back up the elevator to my office upstairs. I still didn't receive confirmation yet from the EPA in regards to the zoning requirements needed for the new property we had just required. " What do you mean they lost the paperwork?" my secretary informed me as I sat down in my chair. " Sir, I don't know what happened but they said that they never received the full amount of the land acquired. I will send them a revised addendum immediately" Jackie said as she exited my office. I called Henry to check on Kelly and he answered immediately. " Kelly is really catching on sir, she has exceeded my expectations so far. She really has an eye for numbers" he said and I couldn't help but smile. " Good, keep up the good work. You never know, if we meet our fourth quarter goal there may be a bonus for both of you" I said. " Sounds good sir" he said and I hung up. When Kelly and I got home tonight, we were definitely going to be talking about the progress on her training. It was 5pm and I had a terrible headache from dealing with the EPA, they informed me that they would have to send out an agent before we could start our ground breaking. As I got into the elevator, Jackie followed me. " Sir, is there anything else you need of me before you leave?" as she got extremely close to me as the doors closed. " No, Jackie I'm good. Thank you" as the doors opened and Jackie had a hold of my left bicep and Kelly was standing at the elevator door. " Nevermind, I''ll just take the stairs" she said as the the elevator door shut and I tried to open it but it was going down. " You know Mr. Worthington, if you need anything at midnight or any other time. I'm always on call...for you.." she said as I shook her off of me and ran out the elevator door but when I got to the parking garage, Kelly's Jeep was already gone. I cursed at myself and quickly jumped into Renee and raced home. I pulled up and Kelly wasn't there, so I looked up the GPS tracker I had on my Jeep, and saw she was at a nearby park. I drove as fast as I could and stopped with a screech in front of her Jeep. It was empty, so I jumped out and went looking for her. I had to find her, no matter what it took. Kelly's P.O.V. After I saw Glynn and that heifer of a woman on his arm, I just broke down. He said he wasn't like that but yet, like every man I've met except Mac, he lied to me. I was so angry, I just googled the closest park and drove straight there. I couldn't stand to be anywhere near him at the moment. I found one a few miles from his house and found a nice bench near the pond to sit down and think. I had a great day training with Henry, he was kind and very good at explaining everything that I needed to know in order to do my job correctly. I sighed at the thought that maybe I wasn't meant to live in this big city and fall in love with a man who made more money than I had ever dreamed of. He was going to eventually destroy the only place that I truly had memories of and I didn't want to fall in love and then he destroy everything precious that I had left of my mother. I sat down and cried as I just felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders. " Don't cry my dear, it can't be all that bad" a sweet voice said to me as I sat up and an older lady, about 80 years old sat next to me on the bench. I laughed and she just smiled at me, " Now what could be so heartbreaking that such a beautiful young woman would be all alone here upset?" she said as I took in her beautiful features. Her hair was gray and white and her eyes a deep blue like Glynn's. " I just feel a bit lost" I said as she nodded. " Well sometimes when we feel lost, we need to be found again so how about we take a small walk and you tell me you problems dear" she smiled at me and stood up. I followed her willingly and told her my story. She was very courteous and spoke at the right moment. " So your telling me the man that your seeing knows very little about your history with the place he is about to turn into a development?" I replied "Yes, I'm scared to let him in and tell him how I feel about it because he may change how he feels about me. I know how money can change a man and I don't want to get in the way of his prosperity" I said as we sat back down on the bench. " You need to be honest with him dear, if he cares for you enough, then it will shine through with his actions" she said as she smiled gently at me. She got up and patted my hand. " I usually take my walk everyday at this time, if you need to talk again my dear, I will be here" she said as she walked away. " What is your name?" I asked her. " It's Evelyn" she said as she walked away and I sat back down, with a newfound feeling within me and finding a new friend.
