"It's the end of the world as we know it, daddy." Sang Betty to her doll in her own sing song kind of way. I looked at her directly, "What's that, Betty?" Betty went silent.

"Betty..." I warned her. She took a few more moments for herself before looking directly at me.

"It's all coming to an end, daddy... " She repeated. The childe was more like a child than I ever imagined when we turned her. I knew what she was talking about. The hunters were on the move and they had caught wind of where we were. The only thing that mattered was that they had no idea what we were doing. It could ruin everything.

*********

Angel dreamed of a world that he once knew back in the heart of New Orleans and then in London. Those were better days. Now the King, King Clarence, had gone back into hiding and made sure that things were looking the way that they always had. That's why I left the royal family. King Clarence was my maker and he knew what I was thinking before I could even voice them.

That was why I went back to New Orleans. It would be harder for him to track me down here and it would be harder for him to know what I was planning. So what was I planning? We were going to take back control of the life that was ripped from us. The royal family and their rules be damned.

It was time that the world was run by the things that go bump in the night again.

Angelus had it all planned out. His army was being built. His plans were laid out perfectly. Until he met her. `The hunter had a brand of cocaine that ran through her veins and he couldn't get enough of it. The world was changing and Angelus was behind it all.

Soon, they would all live in a world where vampires enslave the human race and took back the land that was rightfully theirs. One hunter with the most intoxicating aroma still in her senior year of high school could bring it all crashing down but Angelus wouldn't let that happen. She was going to be his first slave....

Back to New Orleans
Note: This is just a setting chapter.  I hadn't been in New Orleans since the Civil War. That was back in the height of the city but when things were no longer safe for us in the south at the turn of the war and we left. That was Clarence's decision and back then, I never thought to dispute anything that he said. He was the king and I was just a childe at the time. His queen had just taken her thrown next to him. Ah, Emily was nothing to cross for most people but I enjoyed doing it every chance that I got.  Maybe that made me the rebellious child.  Now that we were back, save for the king and queen, I needed to make sure that they stayed as far away as they could until I had everything that I needed. As the movers unpacked the last of our things into the mansion, as soon as the place went on the market, I snatched it up. 10 million dollars was a small price to pay to relive my history in the town while making new plans for history. The LaLaurie Mansion was now mine and a great deal befitting for the life that we were trying to build.  Rumor had it that what they found was just the start of what really happened behind those walls. Of course it had been refurbished since the days that the biggest social events of the year were held here. On the practical side it was in the right part of the French Quarter and it also had the perfect amount of rooms that had little natural light that shone through the windows. Just the way that we liked it.  Once the movers all left, I looked around. "Welcome home, Angelus." I said to myself. Now that we were back, tomorrow morning would start the real work. The army should be just about ready.
